DEEPAK PATHAK’S AMAZING CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES: After making a very impressive debut during the Gen Next Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016 show, Deepak Pathak’s label ‘Integument’ once again held the audience spellbound with his creativity at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019.
Here was a collection that gave a hard-hitting fashionable punch, when it came to detailed construction with hints of frayed techniques that took the collection to a higher plane. With deep black and neutral flesh nude, as the color choice, which could be considered restrictive yet, was at the same time very impactful on the catwalk.
Detailing was the leitmotif of the ensembles where layering played a leading role but was ably supported by screen printing, intricate hand embroidery, an inventive style and artful rendering of fabrics into striking apparel.
The piped in black/taupe wrap creation with an asymmetric hemline, a cropped, intricately, embroidered jacket and draped tunics were interesting offerings on the ramp. The black, timeless, sleeveless, long waistcoats were ideal coordinates that created great wearable options.
Versions of the pinafore appeared over maxis, while the billowy pants with shirt, asymmetric blouses, tunics, and skirts were striking entries on the runway. A wrap-around pinafore and a kimono-cum-jacket-cum-blouson fusion was a very interesting entry with a tie-up option.
Prints and ombré effects along with pale and deep solids gave the garments a wearable appeal that will be good sellers for the coming season.
When it is clothes that speak a language of their own, Deepak Pathak’s ‘Integument’ label had a fashionable language that will gel with the fastidious dressers.
STUDIO SWGT BY SHWETA GUPTA BROUGHT THE GLORY OF NATURAL TEXTILES TO THE FOREFRONT: At the Gen Next Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018 show, the label ‘Studio SWGT’ by Shweta Gupta made an impressive debut that caught the attention of the audience. For Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019, Shweta returned with her label ‘Studio SWGT’ with a fashionable ode to natural textiles that were inspired by the colors of watery blue from the waterfalls.
With fabulously hand-woven fabrics from Madhya Pradesh, Shweta combined these into arresting garments that were once again visually appealing. The handmade crafts included the beauty of crochet that helped to enrich the striking quality of the ensembles.
Opening the show with a grey shirt-style mini with crochet accessories at the waist, the presentation moved on smoothly with soft pastels, like grey and blue that dominated the collection. Wide palazzos were worn with smocked blouses, while the multi- pocket, long jacket/blouse and striped skirt were in perfect sync.
Bias-cut, draped minis were smocked to perfection, while maxis were layered and elegantly gathered to command attention. The easy, relaxed, striped kaftan had the marked SWGT touch, while interesting combos of sheer pinafores over dresses gave multiple dressing-up choices to the buyers.
For a symphony of fashion that moves with the gentle flow of nature, Shweta Gupta’s ‘Studio SWGT’ label offered great style options for the coming season.
THE ESSÉ LABEL BY SAHIB DANG AND SUNAYANA OFFERED A UNIQUE STYLE QUOTIENT: The label ‘Essé’ created by designers Sahib Dang and Sunayana at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019, unveiled an intriguing fashion story called “Why so Offended”.
The show opened with ballet dancer Pia Sutaria, whose graceful movements, set the mood for the show and the title of the collection.
It was a line of deconstructed garments that were presented in a fluid as well as figure-hugging forms. At times, the designers brought in the beauty of hemp, as well as the Dabka embroidery that heightened the fashion quotient of the garments.
Sleek trousers with faux sari-drape were worn with textured bralet. Micro pleating in black for a body-con dress, belted with a broad band at the waist, created a stir on the catwalk. The all-white, crinkled, knotted, jumpsuit was an interesting fashion choice for a summer brunch.
The corset worn with multi-pocket pants, silver, satin, cropped jacket over a mini and the high-waisted pants set a retro return to fashion. Drapes appeared for tops, while the bandeau-style blouse worn with billowy pants also sported numerous pockets as detailing. Jumpsuits, sequinned playsuit with a sheer trench coat, military-style maxi skirt and quilted bikers’ jackets brought a smorgasbord of fashion on the ramp, with many mix and match options.
The “Why so Offended” collection had a mélange of ensembles that were hand crafted for the show, which offered a wide variety that will give style lovers a great choice from the ‘Essé’ label by Sahib Dang and Sunayana.
Mariana, Lakme Makeup expert at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2019 for the first show of day 3 for Integument, Swgt And Essé, used a bold rouge on the eyelids on an otherwise clean face. For the lips, she complemented with a rose pink for a subtle effect.
