Pune, Nov, 05, 2016 : With increasing stress levels , career centric lives and bad lifestyle and eating habits , tobacco consumption , the infertility in India is on the rise . MSR , Maharashtra State chapter of
ISAR (Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction-the parent body comprising of IVF specialists and Embryologists of India) is undertaking awareness programs in smaller towns and cities to increase awareness amongst common people as well as doctors informed Dr. Narendra Malhotra President, ISAR . He was speaking on the sidelines of ‘MaCORM 2016’ (Maharashtra Conference of Reproductive Medicine), the 5th Annual Conference of Maharashtra State Chapter ISAR, MSR, organized in association with the parent body – Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction (ISAR) & Pune Obstetrics Gynecology Society (POGS) at Hotel Conrad, Pune. The conference was invited in presence of Dr DY Patil , Actor Mahima Chowdhary and Bomi Bhot , CEO Ruby Hall Clinic . Dr. Sunita Tandulwadkar, the Founder Secretary of MSR, Dr. Nandita Palshetkar, newly appointed Chairperson of MSR , outgoing chairperson Dr. Rishma Pai, , Dr. Charudatta Joshi, President of Pune Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society were also present.
Dr. Narendra Malhotra said that this year the focus is on Male Infertility and various workshops on Andrology have been arranged in smaller cities through our 16 Chapters and 2800 members. The falling sperm counts in males are a cause of concern. 15 % reproductive aged couples are infertile in India and numbers are increasing every year. Male infertility accounts for 50% of the total infertility .There is no National program to counter this problem.
He added that there are as many as 1200 test tube baby centers in the country. Only 350 are in the registry. There is a need to maintain standards under the guidelines of Indian Council of Medical Research. We are working towards how we can provide accreditation to these centers and maintain international standards. We have provided them with free software, so that the data can be collected and analyzed centrally.
Dr Nandita Palshetkar said that we are focusing on smaller centres with workshops , live demonstrations , and webinar for experts. Our main aim is to provide quality IVF treatments at lower costs .
Outgoing chairperson Dr Rishma Pai said that Female infertility is also on the rise .20% of the young females have fibroid problems which can lead to complications like pain , bleeding , miscarriage during pregnancy and infertility .While till now big surgery was the answer ,we are now discussing conservative management with new simpler and cheaper techniques , medicines and innovations to bring relief to patients .
Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar said that premature ovarian failure is a big concern with females as young as that of 35 years facing this problem. This will drastically come down to 30 years in no time. Some basic tests like AMH blood test can help in determining the ovary health . There is an increasing instance of career oriented females opting for egg freezing to beat the biological clock.
