The film ‘His Fathers Voice’ showcased at NFAI
Pune: “It has taken a long time for this film ‘His Father’s Voice’, to manifest – something on which I would play multiple roles, as Producer |Writer | Director | Cinematographer. Before getting here, I had enabled as Executive Producer, the visions of a handful of European Directors, and one Indian Director, but the courage to bring my own visions to life, happened, for this film, under the right personal circumstances”, said Director Kaarthikeyan Kirubhakaran.
He was speaking at the first screening of his film ‘His Fathers Voice’ at the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) today. Kirubhakaran and his wife Artist Ashwini Pratap Pawar interacted with the audiences after the screening. Ashwini, also a Producer on the film, is a trained Dancer, and has acted the lead role of ‘Parvathi’ in this film.
The film produced by Kaavadi Productions tells a story of a father and a son separated from each other. Bharatanatyam, and, the character Parvathi’s creative process as a Painter, and as a dancer, are powerful forces moving the story forward.
Kirubhakaran said, “The film is shot, close to where we actually live in Tamilnadu. Our home is surrounded by a forest. I wake every morning, to the sound of anklets, as Ashwini practices her dance. Our home is a place where we often interact with other dancers, artists, and actors. While I was writing this film, I chanced to read a translation of the ‘Uttararamacarita’ by Bhavabhuti. Because of this, Rama’s agony at being separated from Sita, and from his children, mirrors the agony of my character Jon, and his son Kris. I consider ‘live’ sound to be the most incredible achievement of this movie, given the noisy environment, which is the norm for most real locations, in our country. There’s not a single line of dialogue that needed to be dubbed, or, an effect that was not already recorded on location! The music of the film is done by Vedanth Bharadwaj, a deeply spiritual performer, and music composer. Being versatile, and aware of the many different music genres of the world, he could create what the audience is now experiencing, as pure enchantment! The lead Actor Jeremy Roske sang his own songs, and this added tremendously, to the authenticity of his character. It is world music, with the east and the west coming together, in blissful harmony”, said Kirubhakaran.
Talking about her acting journey, Ashwini said, “My character- Parvathi is a strong, intelligent woman and a sensitive Artist. Many of us actors in this film were first timers. However, because we were all classically trained dancers, we had the discipline to work with Kaarthikeyan, and, to perform, till he achieved the perfect take. We learned a lot, with this film.”
The film had its successful Theatrical run, at the Arena Cinelounge, in Hollywood, from the 19th to the 25th of April, 2019. It released simultaneously, on Amazon Prime, YouTube movies, and Google Play, in the US, Canada, and Australia, and a little later, in the UK. In India, and worldwide, it is currently available on Vimeo on Demand, with subtitles in ten International languages, including Japanese, Russian, and Hebrew. The film has been gaining in popularity, with every screening, and is receiving positive reviews and ratings, across all platforms.
