Pune: Kankatala are renowned hand-picked, hand-woven sarees and one of South India’s most beloved boutiques are proud to bring a selection of their exquisite catalogue to Pune in two-day exhibition at JW Marriot on 12th and 13th November 2019
Kantkala, established in 1943 in Visakhapatnam, and with ten branches in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the boutique has prided itself on a golden rule of curation which has never been broken: every single saree among the thousands in their catalogue must be carefully chosen by a member of the family.
Speaking about the exhibition, Kankatala’s director Anirudh Kankatala says, “We are delighted to bring our exciting range of collection to Pune for the very first time. We have curated a highly versatile selection for this exhibition. There are timeless pieces that could become cherished heirlooms, and there are contemporary renditions that will make the wearer the cynosure of any occasion or event. In addition to exquisite Kanjivarams, we will also present a range including Banarasis, Patan Patolas, Khadis, Kotas, Linens, Organzas, Gadwals, Uppadas, Ikats, designer sarees and more.”
The curators look for and select only the best quality in weave, design and fabric. The selection in Pune will showcase fine renditions and weaves from across the country. The thoughtfully hand-picked and diverse range will appeal to a variety of tastes, and suit a variety of occasions.
Among the outstanding features of the exhibition is Kankatala’s “Queens of Andhra” collection, which honours some of the region’s most powerful historical monarchs with Kanjivaram silk sarees designed to celebrate them. From the fierce mythical yali intricately woven into a pink saree in tribute to Rani Akkadevi of the Chalukya dynasty to the fiery red saree in homage of the legendary Rani Rudramma Devi of the Kakatiya dynasty to the graceful florals in the drape created for Rani Chandramani Devi of the Chemudu dynasty, each element in the collection beautifully brings heritage and style together.
