Over 4500 women ran for fitness
Pune, March 17, 2019: In the Pune Women’s Half Marathon organized by Free Runners Charitable Trust (FCT) on Sunday, Kavitha Reddy grabbed the first place in the 21Km run with a record timing of 1:36:38 hours.
Over 4500 women from diverse backgrounds and of different ages ran together in this marathon to stress the importance of fitness in women’s lives, which often gets ignored. This was the third year of this marathon and this year’s central theme was- ‘My Revolution’.
The marathon had three categories- 21 km, 10 km and 4 km. The half marathon, that is, 21 km saw Himangi Godbole in 2nd place at 1:55:59 hours and Archana Oak in 3rd place, at 1:57:09 hours.
In the 10km category, 1st place went to Vinaya Malusare, who finished the run in 39:23 minutes, Swati Basu Vhanwade came 2nd at 40:17 minutes and Yamini Umesh Thakre came 3rd with a finish time of 42:48 minutes.
The race started from Police Adhishak Karyalay and went along Pashan road. Neena Saini, co-ordinator for Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) and Regional President, AWWA Southern Command, flagged off the 4 km run. Sangeeta Lalwani, Chairperson, FLO (FICCI Ladies Organization) and Secretary of Free Runners Charitable Trust flagged off the 21 km run and Javed Pansare, PWHM 2019 Race Director, flagged off the 10 km run.
