New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal administered the oath of office to 21 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs as the Parliamentary Secretaries here on Monday. All of them have been attached to different Ministers after their appointment recently with the mandate to assist the Ministers in their work.
Though the ruling AAP has claimed that the Parliamentary Secretaries would help in ensuring smooth functioning of the government, the BJP and Congress have flayed the move contending that it was directed at giving the position of power to the ruling party MLAs and would lead to a heavy burden on the exchequer.
The State Government, on the other hand, had recently said that the Parliamentary Secretaries would not receive any remuneration or perks of any kind. They could use government transport for official purpose and utilise space in the Minister’s office to facilitate their work.
However, all the Parliamentary Secretaries will get office space in the Delhi Assembly from next month. They will use the office to meet people and hear their grievances.
