New Delhi: Pop singer Mika Singh was arrested on Thursday for slapping a doctor during a live event in April. Police had registered a case on the doctor’s complaint and summoned Mika. He was arrested when he reached the police station and granted bail few hours later.
The incident had occurred during a programme organized by Delhi Ophthalmological Society at Pusa Institute Mela ground. The singer told the cops that during the show he had requested the men to move to one side so that women and children got space to dance. While others moved away, Dr Shrikanth, who seemed drunk, started abusing. Mika then called him on stage and asked him to apologize.
“I asked him if he would feel comfortable doing the same actions on stage or in front of his family. He continued swearing after which I lost my cool and slapped him,” Mika had said in a statement.
A video of the event showed Mika calling the doctor on stage to apologize. When he refused, Mika slapped him and pushed him towards a group of bouncers backstage who also beat him before throwing him out of the hall. The doctor had registered a case claiming that he had suffered internal injuries in his ear. A case under IPC sections 323 (assault), 341 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) was registered at Inderpuri police station.
DCP (southwest) RA Sanjeev said that Mika did not appear before the investigators as he claimed to be busy doing work in Mumbai and Dubai.
