The Ballads of Bant Singh is a story of courage and determination that reiterates the indomitable nature of the Human Spirit. Bant Singh, an agricultural labour dalit activist fought relentlessly for justice after the rape of his minor daughter by upper class youth in his hometown. His courage to stand up against class and social barriers drew the ire of local political elites who retaliated by attacking him, due to which he lost both his arms and one leg in the process. Despite many challenges he has faced, his grit and determination has captured the imagination of the nation, who are spellbound by his songs which focus on topics such as woes of the poor, women, revolution and so on. Performing at Tata Literature Live 2016! he moved the audiences with his powerful performance. Singh shared the stage with his proud daughter who has made a life for herself by standing on her own feet. She ended their session with a song, which translated to, father don’t worry I will work and make a living just like a boy”. Part of the audience at Tata Literature Live! that witnessed this heartwarming performance, Mrs. Sangita and Mr. Naveen Jindal spontaneously made a contribution to Bant Singh for prosthetic limbs.
