In a bid to encourage sustainable practices, a tree plantation drive by GVK MIAL employees in line with Van Mahotsav was held at Rabale, Maharashtra
Mumbai: Extending the environment day celebration, the GVK led Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) yet again actioned their passion to a sustainable environment through a tree plantation drive. In sync with the global vision of increasing green cover, MIAL authorities and employees planted trees today at Tetavli, a degraded forest land at Rabale in Maharashtra as preliminary celebrations to Van Mahotsav – an annual tree plantation movement in India to foster the enthusiasm towards forest conservation. The drive witnessed participation of officials and employees of the GVK led Mumbai International Airport.
In the wake of drastic global climate change and uneven rainfall, planting trees and conserving the environment becomes the primary step towards creating a sustainable tomorrow. Thus, GVK MIAL keeps their year-on-year tree plantation tradition alive and this year planted over 1200 saplings and plants at the drive. The entire plantation drive was held across 6 acres of land with an aim to convert the land into a fertile field. Furthermore, to make sure that the planted saplings are well taken care of, MIAL has partnered with a local NGO to maintain and nurture the plants on a regular basis. This conscious activity initiated by GVK MIAL has aided the lush green cover at Rabale, Maharashtra.
MIAL being a socially aware and responsible organization, believes in giving back to mother earth and hence sustainability remains a constant endeavor in all its projects and initiatives. Since its inception, GVK MIAL has always been committed towards ensuring optimal use of limited resources and religiously follows its philosophy of sustainable living. The GVK botanical garden inside the airport spans across 76763sq.mt. which is around 19 acres and has more than 150 species of plants. Year after year, GVK MIAL makes it a point to hold various such green initiatives with the aim of promoting sustainability.
