New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced the ban of Indian manufactured foreign bands (IMFB) and all types of liquors in the state. The CM said the announcement is being made following the experience of last four days.
Bihar govt has already banned the country-made liquor in the state since April 01 this year. Following today’s decision, the sale of alcohol in all hotels, bars and clubs will also be illegal.
While addressing a press conference Nitish Kumar said, “All type of liquor will be banned in the state from today. Sale of any type of alcohol in hotels, bars, clubs and any other place will be illegal from today onwards,” said Kumar.
“Following people’s response in last four days, we have decided to implement the second phase before the scheduled time. There were massive protests by women and social activist demanding ban of all type of alcohol. So we have decided this,” added Nitish Kumar.
After Gujarat, Nagaland and Mizoram, Bihar is the fourth state to do dry. However, Army canteens in the state will continue to sell alcohol as earlier.
