HYDERABAD: The country’s largest Iron-ore producing Navratna Company, NMDC conferred with two coveted awards for its excellence in unique CSR initiatives at Apex India CSR Excellence Awards – 2019.
NMDC’s Bacheli Iron Ore Mining Complex (BIOM) bagged Platinum Award in CSR EXCELLENCE category and Gold Award for its Education City in CSR PROJECT OF THE DECADE category at Apex India CSR Excellence Awards – 2019. These awards are conferred to NMDC BIOM Bacheli Complex in recognition of its unique CSR initiatives that have been taken to uplift the tribal community, provide opportunities for local tribal youth and women to gain meaningful employment, and for livelihood generation in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.
NMDC has established an Education City partnered with the Govt. of Chhattisgarh at Geedam, Dantewada District with institutions ranging from primary school to professional institutions like polytechnics in a single campus. The Education City includes Aastha Gurukul – a residential school with a capacity of 1200 students and Saksham – a 100% specially-abled friendly residential school. This opportunity for education is being provided to students of insurgency-affected areas and to the local tribal children.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC said, “We are delighted to receive the Platinum Award and Gold Award in CSR category from Apex India for implementing remarkable CSR initiatives in Bastar, Chhattisgarh. NMDC’s efforts towards the development of the community has always been appreciated by various institutions and the government. We are committed to the development of Chhattisgarh and its people with our CSR efforts and will continue to progress in that direction.”
NMDC undertakes activities under its CSR Program in the focus areas of Education, Health & Hygiene, Drinking Water, Rural Development, Skill Development, and Sports. For the socio-economic development of the regions where the company has its operations, NMDC has a unique and widely acclaimed consultative mechanism spanning nearly the whole spectrum of stakeholders’ rights from village/community level to district level extending up to the State Government level.
The awards will be presented during the Awards Ceremony that will be held by APEX India Foundation.
