Shree Gijubhai Badeka, who Mahatma Gandhi called, ‘Muchhali Maa’
Pune: Dr.Swati Popat Vats and Vinitha, jointly launched the book “Once upon a Story’ today at Crosswords Pune Aundh.
The book was launched at the hands of the Chief Guest Mahesh Balakrishan. Also present were other dignitaries, educationists and well-wishers to attend the book launch.
Vinitha and I have always been inspired by Gijubhai’s work and because we both work with children, parents and stories, we decided to write a book on him, not realizing that we would be the first to be writing a book on Gijubhai Badeka. Shree Gijubhai Badeka, who Mahatma Gandhi called, ‘Muchhali Maa’.
Gijubhai’s day dream about education was about changes in how we teach children, how we assess them and how we inspire them to become not only good learners but good global citizens. Its time to read it so that we don’t spend too much time reinventing the wheel which has already been invented by him more than 150 years back. He wrote more than 200 books in his 15-year career as an educationist and no one has written a book on him and his work till date. Maybe all of us in education were too busy looking at the west (Finland, Singapore etc.) for ideas and solutions. And all the while the real solutions for India and education were gathering dust in a simple book called Divaswapna.
Once Upon a Story, written by Vinitha and me, is a book dedicated to Divaswapna and the Gijubhai method, and it could not have come at a better time, a time when we are shaping our new education policy. In this book, we have taken excerpts from Divaswapna and have given the way ahead of how these can be implemented in today’s classrooms (irrespective of the education board) and today’s education for tomorrow’s children. It is a ready reckoner on experiential learning, developmentally appropriate curriculum, multiple intelligences, and so much more.
We would urge you to please read this book and help us spread its message to your readers, so that more educators can be inspired by Gijubhai’s day dream of education and turn it into a reality for India and its students. Once Upon a Story, is published by The write place, publishing wing of Crossword and Early Childhood Association.
