Jaipur: Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in association with Department of Local Self Government (LSG), Government of Rajasthan; Udaipur Municipal Corporation and Udaipur Smart City Ltd is organising a one day ‘Smart City Conclave’ on 21 May at the City Palace in Udaipur. This was informed by the Head of the Rajasthan State Council, FICCI, Mr. Atul Sharma.
With a large number of eminent speakers and multiple sessions – the event will focus on challenges and opportunities towards smart city programme, sharing best practices, evolving technological and managerial solutions and providing inputs for policy interventions. During the inaugural session a theme paper will also be released. It elaborately covers the city profile of Udaipur, has a SWOT Analysis, strategic focus, a vision statement as well as the financial plan.
Jaipur and Udaipur have been selected among the first lot of 20 cities under the Smart City programme and this conclave would provide a platform to deliberate on the progress so far and way forward on the initiative said Dr. Manjit Singh, Principal Secretary – LSG, Government of Rajasthan. Udaipur Municipal Corporation has signed a MoU with FICCI to bring private sector participation for the initiative. Other two smart cities to be developed later are: Kota and Ajmer in Rajasthan, Dr. Singh further added.
The Minister for Urban Development & Housing (UDH) and LSG, Mr. Rajpal Singh Shekhawat has been invited as the Chief Guest during the inaugural session of the Smart City Conclave. The Home Minister, Mr. Gulab Chand Kataria will deliver the Presidential Address. The Director, National Institute of Urban Affairs, Prof. Jagan Shah will deliver the theme address. The Denmark Ambassador to India, Mr. Peter Taksøe-Jensen will also be present on the occasion and will address the delegates during the inaugural session. The Chairman and Managing Trustee of the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar will deliver the inaugural address while welcome remarks will be given by the Mr. Atul Sharma.
The one day conclave will witness two plenary sessions. The first session will be focused on ‘Greener and Healthier Cities’. It will cover ‘Sanitation for All by 2019’ as outlined in the Swachh Bharat Mission as well as ‘Integrated Solid Waste & Water Management’. Under the Session Chairmanship of the Collector & District Magistrate, Udaipur, Mr. Rohit Gupta — the specific topics covered will be : Udaipur Smart City Project (Commissioner, Udaipur Municipal Corporation, Mr. Sidharth Sihag); Smart Water Management (Associate Director & Head – Planning Ramboll India, Mr. Srinivas Chekuri); Sanitation for All (Lead – New Business Development Owens Corning, Mr. Gokul Venkataraman); Waste Management for Smart Cities (Vice President – Business Development IL&FS Environmental Infrastructure & Services Limited, Mr. Sundeep Kumar); Smart Cities – A Perspective from a Master Systems Integrator (Business Leader – Smart Cities L&T Construction, Mr. Jayant Kohale) and Integrated Water Resources Management Smart Approach for Smart Cities (Principal Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic College, Udaipur, Dr. Anil Mehta).
The second session will be focused on ‘Smart & Vibrant Cities’. It will cover ‘Innovations and Technologies for Applications in Smart Cities’. Under the Session Chairmanship of the Divisional Commissioner, Udaipur, Mr. BS Detha — the specific topics covered will be : the Economics of Smart Cities (Group CEO, Secure Group, Mr. Sanjaya Singhal); Smart Mobility (Vice President, Transport Planning, Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd., Mr. Samir Kumar Sharma); Use of ICT in Smart City Framework (Circle CEO, Indus Towers Ltd., Mr. R. Ramanujam); Smart City Layers & Components – The Need for Horizontal Approach (Director Smart Cities, Customer Operations – Global Enterprises and Public Sector, Nokia, Mr. Jacques Vermeulen) and Conservation of Heritage Zones (Director, Preservation and Community Design Development and Research Organization for Nature, Arts & Heritage (Dronah), Dr. Shikha Jain).
Industry stakeholders, Municipal Commissioners, State Government Officials, Housing Agencies, Urban Local Bodies, Mayors, Senior Academicians, Research Scholars, among others will participate in the event. The experts and thought leaders from various sectors will meet with the aim to discuss how to plan, design, build and maintain sustainable environment and cities.
