The survey reveals the real truth behind the gifting and planning that goes into making this day extraordinary – be it the type of gifts people buy or the amount they spend to woo their sweethearts, or even the different reasons why people celebrate this day.

If popular perceptions are to be believed, couples spend days rather months to make Valentine’s Day extra-special for their loved one. nearbuy’s recent survey on the contrary reveal that majority of people (62%) do not believe in planning in advance, spontaneity seems to be the name of the game.
One of the most interesting trends this survey spots is how a majority of couples are now open to buying great offers on gifts/experiences (56%) during this special occasion.
Spend not Splurge
40% Indians are willing to fork out an average of Rs.3,000 to buy their spouse a Valentine’s Day gift. The survey reveals that majority of respondents (56%) prefer buying offers online to save, reinforcing the fact that Indians don’t want to go over-board with their Valentine’s Day plans. Just about 10% would go over the Rs.5000 bracket to impress their Valentine.
What, when and where of Valentine’s Day gifting
Well, Valentine’s Day is not just about getting gifts but also about giving gifts. A little tiny unexpected surprise that can make your special someone skip a heartbeat. When asked what people prefer to gift their loved ones, romantic dinners (45%) win hands down, followed closely by a personalized gift (39%). A few chose to gift a helicopter ride (18%) to their special someone.
Break-up with stress
What stresses out most couples (47%) is the planning drill, followed by recognition of their gift (25%), budget constraints (16%) and lastly the task of finding a date itself (13%).
In the mood for love
A majority of survey takers believe in celebrating Valentine’s Day to impress and express interest (43%) in their loved one. A few, however, celebrate as it seems the right thing to do (21%). Other either express gratitude under peer-pressure (13%) or in the hope to get some action (13%).
