Kochi: Applications have been invited by Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, for admission to the one year full time residential, Post Graduate Programme for Executives in Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX-VLM) aimed at developing future visionary leaders for the manufacturing sector in India so as to enhance the global competitiveness of our manufacturing sector.
The course is being conducted jointly by IIM Calcutta, IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras, in which each partnering institute teaches their speciality in management education. The course has been designed by these institutes in consultation with industry, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) and Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
IIM CalcuttaThe course has 36 weeks of classroom study, which includes lectures, case studies, tutorials, lab sessions, videos, individual and team assignments, guest lecture from Japanese faculty, industry experts and business leaders, totalling to 1057 interaction hours. There will be 7 weeks of internship in industry along with 2–3 weeks of industry visit in Japan for studying Best Manufacturing Practices under the aegis of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The program has a proper balance of theoretical inputs and practical training to develop a high degree of leadership skill which would enable Indian companies convert manufacturing into a competitive weapon. The program introduces courses on Green Manufacturing, SAP ERP, and Breakthrough Management along with ISO9001 Lead Auditor Training. The program aims to develop leadership and management skills, besides providing an impetus to cutting edge technology awareness and proficiency.
Eligibility
-Applicants should be First-Class Graduate Engineers with First Division/ First Class Marks from SLC/ Madhyamik.
-Self-sponsored candidates, not in service should have a minimum of 4½ to maximum 10 years of work experience in manufacturing, engineering and related sector; holding responsibilities in production planning and control, research, design and development, quality control, plant engineering, maintenance, supply chain, construction etc.
-Sponsored candidates need to have minimum 4½ years work experience only. In these cases, there is no upper limit of experience.
-Candidates on study leave also need to have minimum 4½ years’ work experience only. In these cases, there is no upper limit of experience and are eligible for participating in the placement process only on submission of ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the Company/ Employer. The participation in placement process does not guarantee placement.
-The date of computation of the number of years of work experience shall be up to 29th February 2016 for the academic year 2016-17.
Selection of candidates
Selection of candidates will be made on the basis of his/her academic background, which has to be consistently first division/first class from school (SLC/ Madhyamik) Board examination level to graduation level, relevant work experience, employer’s recommendations, performance in the Aptitude Test and Personal Interview to be conducted jointly by IIMC, IITK and IITM. GMAT/GRE score is not mandatory. If candidate has a score, it is treated as a part of his/her academic record.
Applicants will be shortlisted in consideration of particulars stated in the application form. If shortlisted in consideration of particulars stated in the application form, they have to appear for the Aptitude Test. The venue of the Aptitude Test will be Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, Joka, Diamond Harbour Road, Kolkata-700104. The tentative date of the two hour Aptitude Test is December 20, 2015 (Sunday). It would be conducted from 10 am.
The test comprises three parts. Part I consists of analytical ability, Part II verbal abilities and Part III engineering aptitude. There will be 25% negative marking in the Aptitude Test. There is no prescribed syllabus for the engineering aptitude section of the Aptitude Test. The idea is to test the candidate’s ability to apply some fundamental engineering concepts across various disciplines. Specific and advanced level preparation of any particular branch of engineering is not required. Short listed candidates after the Aptitude Test would have to appear for a Personnel Interview on the same date at IIM Calcutta.

Applicant will be required to make a Payment of Rs. 2500/- towards Application Fees to complete the application process. The amount can be paid on-line by Debit/Credit Card or using the Net Banking facility of identified banks. Alternately the fee can be paid through a Demand Draft/Banker’s Cheque drawn in favor of Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and payable at Kolkata, India. In such cases, applicants will have to provide the cheque information and upload a scanned copy of the same along with the application to successfully complete the process. List of Shortlisted candidates for test & Interview will be published on December 7, 2015 (Monday). The Final list of selected candidates and waiting list candidates will be published at 8 pm on December 20, 2015 (Sunday). Last date of acceptance of offer with deposit will be February 15, 2016 (Monday). Registration for Admission at IIM Calcutta will be from 10 a.m. on April 1, 2016 (Friday). Academic Session commences on April 4, 2016 (Monday).
