Pune: Taking forward its commitment to the cause of improving the lives of construction workers and their immediate families, PNB Housing Finance Limited has collaborated with Tara Mobile Creches to set up a day care centre for the children of construction workers in Pune. The centre will cater to a workers’ base at Xrbia Group construction site in Chakan area and will support the education, nutrition and development needs of children coming from neighbouring labour camps.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Sanjaya Gupta, M.D., PNB Housing said, “Construction workers and their families form the primary stakeholder for us. It is disheartening to see that a community, which is an integral part of the real estate sector, still lays at the bottom of the pyramid. Through our small endeavour, we intend to help them, especially their children, by supporting them with nutrition, hygiene and education. After agriculture, construction industry is the second largest employer in the country, therefore, it becomes important that we look after their development needs and their families. This will ensure holistic development of their children while enabling the working parents to focus on their work and enhance their productivity thus augmenting employment generation.”
The Chakan site centre is the first day-care centre of the company in Pune and it aims to bring two more day-care centres in the city. Working rigorously on its plan to help construction workers, PNB Housing aims to establish more day care centres in Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Mumbai in FY2017.
On the occasion, Mr Rahul Nahar, CMD, Xrbia Group said, “This is a good opportunity as we align completely with PNB Housing’s thoughts on the community. The day-care centre will cater to the development needs of these children while assuring their safety, thus empowering the mothers to freely go out and work. As most of the workers are migrant labourers, they have no choice but to keep the children with them at work, which can be risky. We welcome such initiatives and are looking forward to similar associations in future with PNB Housing and Tara Mobile Creches.”
Continuously expanding their focus on the community, PNB Housing Finance Limited has taken other initiatives as well in this direction. One among them is imparting training to the workers to upgrade their trade skills. In collaboration with other entities, PNB Housing has trained around 500 construction workers as of March 31, 2016 and intend to take this number to 2000 in this fiscal.
