Mumbai: He came, he saw and he conquered. It was Salman Khan mania that ruled supreme at the trailer launch of ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ held at a suburban theater on Thursday (October 1) evening.
Journalist, photographers, actors, fans everyone thronged the venue giving it the feel of an award ceremony. And all this just to see and hear Salman talk about playing his most lovable romantic avatar of Prem in a Rajshri production yet again.
Salman too didn’t disappoint. For starters, the superstar arrived uncharacteristically early well before lesser known actors like Swara Bhaskar. We suspect his punctuality had much to do with close friend Akshay Kumar hosting a special screening of Singh is Bliing an hour later.
Dressed in a casual shirt and jeans, Salman Khan preferred to attend the entire press conference standing behind director Sooraj Barjatya and his co-star Sonam Kapoor. The actor was ready with his usual wisecracks that brought the floor down frequently. Growing emotional about the bond he shares with Sooraj, Salman waxed eloquent about the man who gave him his career’s first blockbuster hit.
“We met 27 years ago. Since then I have made my share of mistakes. He (Sooraj) didn’t. From the day we met each other, we created a bond for life. I have worked with a lot of directors but the love, fondness and respect that I have for Sooraj, I don’t have for anyone. There are lots of directors in our industry and people say you should worked with so and so. But I am happy to have worked with one person, Sooraj. As a director and human being, no one better is than Sooraj. When you leave the theater after watching a Barjatya film, you leave as a better human being. When Sooraj directs, there is so much beauty. He brings back our culture that we keeping on losing. He draws us back to the morals and root,” said Salman.
Recollecting the first day he met Salman, Sooraj said, “Salman was referred by a girl called Shabana Dutt. She worked with him in an ad and said that I should audition him for the lead role in ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’. I selected him not for his acting but for the fact that he is a good humab being. He has dhan in abundance. We started out 27 years ago when we were in our 20s. We had nothing to win or lose. We made our mistakes together, had all fun together. Even now when I am lining up a shot, I know what he is going to do. Today he is beyond all of us and yet such a good human,” said Sooraj Barjatya.
“I am always going through that difficult time so whenever I am going through a difficult time my work on that film is much better. So, please remember that. We work hard during that time. I’m still going through it (difficult time) and I will keep going through it,” Salman added.
Salman’s lead actress in the movie, Sonam Kapoor was the most excited and revealed that it was her childhood dream to star opposite Salman ever since she became an actress.
Recollecting an incident, Sonam said, “The only time I went to a film set was when Salman was making a guest appearance in my father’s (Anil Kapoor) film. I chatted with him for almost an hour. I am sure he doesn’t remember it.”
‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ is all set to release on November 12.
