Pune: Uber, the technology company that is transforming the way people move in cities has today announced a partnership with the Pune Traffic Police to work together on a number of safety initiatives targeted towards commuter and road safety in the city. This strategic partnership will include deployment of bespoke safety solutions developed by Uber, joint marketing campaigns with a focus on road safety, a dedicated campaign against drunk driving and helping create more jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities for the people of Pune.
Uber has a simple goal: to provide access to safe, reliable and convenient transportation at the push of a button, everywhere for everyone. Following the introduction of our latest in-app safety upgrades (incl. disguised phone number technology and Help function) across India, Pune today becomes only the second city after Kolkata to deploy the SOS alert solution to ensure commuters riding on Uber have a real-time link to the Police Control Room in the city.
Said Sarang Awaad, DCP, Traffic, Pune City, “For the safety of Pune city and the citizens of Pune, Uber SOS system has been set up in Traffic Police Control Room. Because of this, the passengers will be able to travel more safely and securely.”
Sanil Bhatia, GM Pune, Uber said, “We are thrilled that the Pune Police have agreed to join forces with Uber to make transportation in Pune safer for all. The Commissioner of Police in Pune, Shri. K.K. Pathak, Joint Police Commissioner, Sunil B. Ramanand and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sarang Awad have helped reinforce the confidence of local law enforcement in Uber’s industry-leading safety innovations that are making commuting on India’s roads safer. We are hopeful that other Police department in cities across India will take leadership in implementing such collaboration and put the interests and safety of the local community first.”
Uber will also work closely with the authorities to help create more jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities for retired Police Officers as driver partners on the Uber platform.
We welcome the opportunity to partner with Police departments and other law and order agencies around the country to improve accountability in urban mobility for the benefit of millions of commuters in cities across India by embracing our technology, helping raise awareness of the risks associated with driving under the influence and providing more work opportunities for retired law-enforcement officers.
