PUNE: Creativity can be used to drive positive change and bearing that in mind, Pune-based youth, Anand Lalwani has developed a solution to help small and medium business owners and households safely and quickly sanitize all objects, which has become necessary due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. Anand is a Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University
The solution known as ‘Light-Box’ consists of a metal box and UV-C light and according to Anand, unlike other similar devices in the market, this device is the only one that has been tested and verified by a government lab in India and has been proven to 100 percent remove bacteria and viruses from surfaces in 30 seconds.
As UV-C light is an effective way of sanitizing all objects, it’s a known fact that UV-C light causes skin cancer. This Light-Box, manufactured in India however prevents human exposure to UV-C light.
Speaking about his invention Anand, who is a Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University says, “In the COVID world we currently live in, we need a quick way to safely clean our surfaces without damaging them but chemical solutions and detergents do not work well with metal objects like jewelry, paper currency, electronics, etc. But this Light-Box, which is made in India, is safe and easy to use and it can clean all objects except edible items.”
Anand, while studying at Brown University (USA, Ivy League) along with his team earlier had built a satellite, which was launched by NASA in 2018. The satellite still orbits in space and it can be tracked from Earth. Pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Stanford, Anand had also won the global competition of key sight innovation IoT (Internet of things) in 2019 and was awarded one lakh Dollars as prize money.
