Pune,Friday, December 2, 2016: The third season of Pune Style Week by Storm Fashion Company kicked off in a grand fashion at Phoenix Market City, Viman Nagar, Pune. With an exclusive collection of Indian and western couture handcrafted by the students of INIFD Pimpri, Pune, and prominent names like Hari Anand, Shruti & Mangaayesh and Abhishek Dutta, the Pune Style Week prove to be the mecca for all things uber stylish.
The evening started with students of INIFD Pimpri showcasing their collection highlighting multiple themes, the first one being – “Freedom, My Pride,” which was inspired by the Indian freedom movement. Each of the pieces carried a unique artwork based on the freedom movement held in different states of the country during that era. The base fabric used was khadi coupled with a pinch of contemporary fabrics as per current trends with a lot of pockets and plackets used in the entire collection. The silhouettes, patterns, motifs and colours used in the traditional art depicted the culture from the respective states.
Speaking about the collection, the showstopper, Mrs Sonia Shetty Singh, said, “Pune is not just an IT hub; it’s now becoming the designer hub, too. INIFD Pimpri had designed my national costume at the Mrs Commonwealth Asia Pacific, which was selected in the top 5 national costumes. This shows how talented these youngsters are and the need to organise more such shows to encourage and showcase their talent.”
This was followed by the Indian Splash collection, which was inspired from various kinds of lowers and blouses worn in different parts of India. The 3 national costumes that were worn at 3 different international pageants by Senorita Miss India Intercontinental Aarushi Sharma in Sri Lanka , Senorita Miss India International Rewati Chhetri in Japan and Miss Commonwealth Asia Pacific Shweta Raj in London recently, were also showcased in the sequence.
The Elements of Nature (Western Wear) collection was inspired from the 5 elements of nature – Earth, Fire, Air, Space and Water. ‘This collection was designed with an intention to create awareness about these 5 available resources and how they play an important role in the ecosystem, and how saving them is so vital to save Mother Nature! The silhouettes, motifs, colours, patterns will surely remind you of these precious elements,” said INIFD Pimpri Pune Director Sheetal Thakkar.
The final collection by INIFD Pimpri, The Roots, was a western wear collection inspired by the principles of design like balance, rhythm, harmony, repetition and emphasis which are the base for every design education. The designs presented at The Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week by INIFD Pimpri Pune by the student designer Komilla Lalwani was also presented in the sequence.This collection was inspired by the Liberation Mountains. Along with being appreciated by one and all at the Fashion Scout at London Fashion Week, the collection has been featured in the British Vogue and other UK print and online media. Pune girl Varsha Rajkhowa, who recently won the prestigious Miss Scuba International 2016 pageant was the showstopper for the collection.
Designer Hari Anand from Kochi showcased his latest collection at the day one finale show for the Style Week. His collection – Resort Nautica is a luxury wear for men and women based on cruise weddings and holidays. Speaking about his collection, he said, ‘The woman of future will be efficacious seductive, and without contest superior to men. It is for them that I conceived the design and is meant to maintain those fantasies of identity.”
Miss Tourism World Priyanka Shah, who walked the ramp for Hari Anand shared her joy of walking the ramp in her home city – Pune. She said, “I always feel so relaxed when I’m doing a show here because it is my home, my people.”
The Pune Style Week concludes today with collections showcased by Shruti & Mangaayesh from Pune, Abhishek Dutta from Kolkata, and Sakshi Bindra & Nazia Syed.
