Pune: City-based CHASA Institute of Design and Technology (IDT), a renowned fashion institute is the first to be selected to showcase its talent at New York Fashion Week (NYFW). The high-end fashion fiesta is going to be held on September 8, 2016, at Manhattan, New York.
Under the PM’s initiative of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (Save girl child, educate girl child) campaign, Chandrakala Sanap and Anupam Goyal, directors, CHASA IDT, along with their team of talented students have designed their collection based on a noble theme of ‘Educate the girl child’.
To encourage CHASA IDT’s endeavour, Amruta Fadnavis has come on board as the brand ambassador to support the cause of ‘Educate the girl child’ and promote handloom. An eminent banker by profession, singer and social worker, Amruta is the wife of Maharahtra CM, Devendra Fadnavis.
Chandrakala Sanap started her career as a beauty director around 17 years ago with a city-based fashion magazine. She has been the show director and stylist for many major pageants and fashion shows held in the city and outside. Being a farmer’s daughter herself, who rose to fame and attained success with her immense hard work, Chandrakala is an inspiration for her students – few of whom belong to underprivileged backgrounds.
Sharing their excitement, Chandrakala and Anupam said, “This is a very special opportunity for all of us as we will be showcasing our work on such a huge platform. Some of our students are daughters of porters (coolie) and farmers and it makes me proud to see that these extremely talented girls have worked on the collection along with renowned designer Priyanka Rajiv. Priyanka has been a mentor to our students and has been training them for this special collection.”
The cohesive collection to be showcased at the NYFW will speak volumes about the Indian ethos and culture. The show will be choreographed by one of the ace choreographers of India, Lubna Adams.
