AN ODE TO DESIGNER SANJAY GARG’S HOMESTATE
MUMBAI: Designer Sanjay Garg of Raw Mango is set to unveil his festive collection at Lakmé Fashion Week’s first-ever digital and season fluid edition. He will be presenting at the finale show on Day one, Sustainable Fashion Day on 21st October 2020.
The latest collection ‘Moomal’ draws from Rajasthan, home to its founder Sanjay Garg. The traditional aesthetics of folk meet with Marwari clothing as a newfound harmony within textiles, silhouettes, colors. Newly introduced techniques include bandhej and the region’s metallic gota. Bold in both color and combination, Rajasthan’s multiplicity of layers lives across colors, textiles, and motifs, explored on poshaks, gathered lehengas, jackets, and cholis.
Commenting on his latest collection, Sanjay Garg, Founder & Textile Designer, Raw Mango said, “The terrain is different, the sense of dress, its vernacular architecture, and crafts. All things are so abundant that one is never bothered by it until you leave. I never realized till I left… but these are the things I miss. Aesthetics of clothing in Rajasthan are built upon layers of color and texture. Bold and unapologetic, it’s one where fineness does not equate to sophistication. I respect and love it. This collection has challenged me. It’s not what I would naturally live with, but it’s true to its roots given that balance and value is aligned with a greater vision… like the idea of home. We are excited to present virtually at Lakmé Fashion Week – it’s great to see LFW embrace innovative methods to reach audiences and explore new mediums of presentation.”
Lakmé Fashion Week is scheduled to be hosted between 21st – 25th October 2020. Tune into the LFW virtual hub to know more.
