The South Indian Film Artistes’ Association (Nadigar Sangam) elections are coming up on Sunday and the debates are heating up. Actor Sarath Kumar, President, Nadigar Sangam, called for a press meet on Wednesday to issue a clarification on some allegations made by the Pandavar Ani party, led by actor Vishal.
One of the major allegations against Sarath Kumar as President of Nadigar Sangam is that the land which belonged to the union has been sold off to SPI Cinemas for a theatre to be built. The building, where the Nadigar Sangam was housed, was also demolished.
At the press meet, Sarath Kumar stated that the land has not been sold but only been leased to SPI Cinemas. He said that people who are part of the opposing party, the Pandavar Ani, also applauded this move by them. The Nadigar Sangam building was demolished only after they got the relevant demolition order, he stated.
The actor also said that no one raised objections at the time when the Nadigar Sangam entered into the agreement with SPI Cinemas. Sarath Kumar said they would have reconsidered the deal or cancelled the agreement if anyone had approached them, but no one had done so. Things have just turned ugly now, he opined. Sarath Kumar also stated that he was honest, dedicated and sincere.
Earlier, there was talk that the present Nadigar Sangam leaders wanted a compromise with the Pandavar Ani, who were standing against them in the elections. However, as of now, it looks like the elections will take place as scheduled on Sunday.
