On the occasion of Constitution Day, “Sanvidhan Sanmaan Silent March” was held today to honour the constitution of the country. It was started at 11 a.m. from Deccan Gymkhana to Council Hall via Lakshmi Road and reached there at 4.30 p.m. where a memorandum and charter of demands was submitted by girl students to Pune District Collector Saurabh Rao. The silent March was held by the various organisations representing OBCs, Minorities and Dalits to press their demands.
The demands included, Reservation for OBCs, Dalits, Minorities of all religions, curb on misuse of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. quota in education and government jobs, Amendment in SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act) to stop its misuse, loan waiver to farmers to curb suicides, and guaranteed rate for agricultural produce, special court for women to solve persecution cases, protection for girl students of Ashram School, implementation of PESA Act, memorial of freedom fighter Guru Lahuji Vastaad in Pune, recommendation of the Sacchar Committee for Muslim Community, implementation of the Ranganath Mishra Commission report, Free education from KG to PG for Scheduled Castes, 5% reservation for Muslim Community of Maharashtra.
This March was not organized for any particular community or ideology. It was totally silent in nature, with no particular leader, slogan or banner. OBCs, Dalits, Minorities of all religions, Scheduled Castes, Labours, different organizations, citizens had participated in the March.
