Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture had organized a Seminar on Exploring Business and Technology Aspects in Water Sector on 23rd june 2017.
Dr. Anant Sardeshmukh, Director Gereral, MCCIA made the opening remarks. He stated that efficient Management of available water, its treatment and reuse of water is very important. The Chamber has been at the fore front of certain initiatives for water supply, power from hydal source etc. We are also part of a high level committee of the Maharashtra Government an effective management of water.
Mr. Ajay Mehta, Vice President, MCCIA, in his welcome address stated that there are numerous opportunities, coming up in water and related sector. There are a large number of companies in Pune which are engaged in water related segments. We have an opportunity to leapfrog in developing technologies and management in water sector.
H. E. Mr. Daniel Carmon, ambassador for Israel to India delivered the Inaugural Address. He stated that Israel and India have excellent dialogue for the past few years. We have se up 15 Agri excellence centres in India. The Government of Israel has offered to replicate the success in cooperation in the areas of agri sector to the water sector as well. He said that we are willing to extend our knowledge in realizing he goal of more crop per drop, knowledge in water recycling, desalination is already in practice in India through some major projects. In the last 7-8 years Israel has turned from a scarce water scenario to water surplus country.
Dr. Juigen Morhard, Consul General, Vonsulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany also addressed the seminar. He stated that the German companies are very active in India and Pune. But of 1600 companies in India , 312 are in Pune. Germany wants to partner in India’s journey towards prosperity. We are locking for more and more opportunities for partnerships between German and Indian companies. MCCIA has an active cooperation with city of Karlsruhe. Maharashtra state has a cooperation with state of Baden Wurttemburg. Both these mechanisms are doing their best to enhance the cooperation. Consulate would be happy to extend its support in extending the links.
On this occasion, Mr. Kiran Gitte, Metropolitan Commissioner and ECO of PMRDA stated that the gaps in infrastructure development are quite large PMRDA will be undertaking ring road, Metro, Sanitation and other projects. The real challenges in water sector are availability of skills technology and discipline to be observed in managing water.
