Chicago IL: Sri Venkateswara Swami (Balaji) temple of Aurora, Illinois celebrated the 29th annual Banquet and Fund raising event at Waterford Banquets in Elmhurst, Illinois on Saturday, October 12, 2015.
The primary objective of this year’s fund raising activities at the banquet was to collect funds and receive pledges for the renovation of temple’s Rajagopuram and Roofing. Rajagopuram is the ornate royal grand tower super structure entrance to the temple. This superstructure according to Hindu beliefs is an object of high veneration and spiritual values.
The gala event was attended by 350 devotees that enjoyed an evening with a variety of lip-smacking Indian food and cultural events. The temple management presented service awards for three priests and another temple employee for their dedicated service and loyalty to the temple.
The event commenced with Mr. Suresh Mehta, Trustee of the temple welcoming guests. He was followed by Dr. Prabhkar Garla Gupta, Chairman of the temple that outlined the progress report of the temple and also made an appeal to the devotees to donate generously for the Rajagopuram renovation project.
The key note address was delivered by the guest speaker Raja Krishnamurthy. Raja captured the audience with a stunning and thought provoking speech. He provided his perspectives as to how Balaji Temple has been an excellent place of worship and spiritual enhancement for him and his family. He also energized the audience to get more active in public service and requested the Indian community to get to the polls and “vote”.
The Deputy Consulate General O.P. Meena addressed the audience and thanked the temple management and all its volunteers for making Balaji temple a divine place of worship for the Indian community. Dr. Sanjay Rao, member of the temple auxiliary committee was the program emcee and did a superb job in keeping the program exciting.
The music entertainment arranged by cultural committee member Ram Raghuraman started off with some melodious songs by Chicago’s professional talents. The singers Rama Raghuraman, Minu Karthik, Babu Rajan and Ravishankar sang popular film songs in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu which was greatly applauded by the audience.
