New Delhi: An RTI query reveals that two stamps that feature former Congress Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi have been discontinued.
The discontinued stamps were launched by Department of Posts (DoP) in December 2008 which was a part of the titled series ‘Builders of Modern India’.
The RTI query made by Delhi-based The Indian Express further states that the centre plans to introduce stamps under a new series that features BJP founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee and other political leaders such as Jayaprakash Narayan, Deendayal Upadhyaya and Ram Manohar Lohia.
The RTI query says that “stamps of denomination of rupees five have been discontinued” where Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi featured. The Builders of Modern India series will be replaced by DoP with Makers of India.
The new series will consist of 24 stamps where Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa and Ambedkar will feature in it.
