Suryadatta National School, along with a host of other schools, was invited to participate in the 6th ‘Environment Theatre Festival’ (ETF), which was sponsored by Cummins India Foundation in association with Sahodaya. The festival was held at Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Auditorium, Aundh.
ETF, an inter-school awareness festival is Pune’s one of its kind Green Festival which is dedicated towards fostering ownership for the environment among school students. Not only does this festival raise awareness about environment issues, it gives an opportunity to students to voice their ideas and thoughts through the medium of Art.
The themes of ETF were “Journey of Water and Importance of water”. The selection of the topic was left to schools, with any sub theme, highlighting water and its importance. Suryadatta students participated in the Middle School Category set for classes from 5 to 8. Seven students along with their teacher put up a presentation for the show. Mime was the style of theatre selected for the show because it is no paradox that in a world full of noise, it seems that we communicate better in silence and movement than in words. Because silence is the foundation of mime, the artist is challenged to invent new ways to symbolize and communicate ancient truths.
“In keeping with the theme, the performance and the script, the act was aptly named ‘Jeevandhara’, highlighting the significance of water in our lives and the importance of conserving and managing it”, beamed Dr. Prof. Sanjay Chordiya, Chairperson, Suryadatta Group of Institutes.
The preliminary round on 11th Jan 2018, had 17 participating schools in the Middle School Category. The Suryadatta National School students brilliant performance saw them make it to the Finals, which were held on 19th Jan, 2017. Here too, the students excelled and bagged the prize for first runners up in the ‘Overall Performance Category’ and in the ‘Best Script Category’. Truly a remarkable achievement, making the entire school proud!
