Nivedita Saboo Couture italicizes sustainable fashion initiatives as a label and couturier Nivedita Saboo commemorates chaste materials of the region in her latest showcase at Rajasthan Heritage Week.
A collection woven in khadi wool and leather from Rajasthan; the ensembles showcased the versatility of a heritage fabric beautifully rendered contemporarily with international cuts and silhouettes. Edgy, slick and sharp, the compilation of jackets and bandhgalas for men and diffusion outfits and gowns for women with beautiful digital and Rajasthani hand block prints as accents are fashionably apt for runways and red carpets globally.
Venerating the weaves and craft of Rajasthan, the wool locally manufactured was developed in inherent colours and tones. It was made softer, malleable and in a fabric weight and weave that would fall beautifully as structured gowns for women and jackets for men. The leather sourced from Jaipur was handcrafted into custom-made belts and toggles while the brooches and buttons were inspired by ancient army motifs. All the facings have been fused with block printed lining to maintain the essence of the province. The colours are a reflection of the desert region and a combination of natural mustard, vermillion, deep red, rich burgundy, kesariya, earthy orange, dark soil brown, burnt ochre, grey and black visually elevate the garments.
The collection echoes immaculate hand-skill and tailoring with an inherent understanding and expertise of pattern making.
