An Extraordinary Journey Through Ellora’s Kailasa Temple and Caves, Set Against the Backdrop of Maharashtra Day

Photography Exhibition by Neelesh Kale Scheduled from April 28 to May 3

PUNE: Art enthusiasts will have a unique opportunity to view photographs that shed light on various facets of the Kailasa Temple—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a globally renowned marvel of architecture—as well as the Jain and Buddhist caves located at Ellora (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar). This occasion marks the hosting of a photography exhibition featuring panoramic images captured by the Lalit Kala Akademi Award winner Neelesh Kale. Titled ‘Ellorama,’ this exhibition is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, April 28, to Sunday, May 3, at the Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery on Ghole Road. Connoisseurs will be able to experience this exhibition daily between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Please note that this exhibition is free and open to all.

The inauguration of the ‘Ellorama’ photography exhibition will be held on Tuesday, April 28, at 5:00 PM, at the hands of Dr. G.B. Deglurkar, a world-renowned iconologist and a leading expert on the Kailasa Temple, Prof. Medha Kulkarni, Member of Parliament, and Jayant B. Joshi, renowned artist. During the event, Dr. G.B. Deglurkar will interact with the audience. Additionally, as part of the exhibition’s accompanying programs, Indologist Dr. Rahul Deshpande will engage with the audience on Thursday, April 30, at 5:00 PM, delivering a talk titled ‘Exploring Ellora.’ Please note that both of these events are open and free on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.

Providing further details regarding the photography exhibition, Neelesh Kale stated, “The Kailash Temple, carved by the Rashtrakutas, dates back to the period between 756 AD and 773 AD. These 34 caves are carved within an area spanning approximately two kilometers. Among them, Cave No. 16—the Kailasa Temple—is renowned globally as the largest monolithic temple (a temple carved from a single rock) in existence. The ‘Ellorama’ exhibition features photographs that shed light on the Ellora Caves—and specifically the Kailasa Temple—from a multitude of perspectives. This exhibition comprises a curated selection of photographs chosen from a vast collection captured using the techniques of ‘photogrammetry’. Furthermore, another highlight of this exhibition will be the inclusion of a precise 3D (three-dimensional) model created from these photographs using this advanced technology.”

Kale also expressed with confidence that, with the aid of 3D Vista and Cloud Compare technologies, visitors to the exhibition would gain comprehensive information—including where to begin their exploration of the caves, exactly what to observe at each stage, the specific features and unique attributes of the structures they view, and their precise dimensions (length, width, and height). Moreover, attendees will be treated to a ‘guided journey’—or a ‘virtual tour’—of this UNESCO World Heritage site during the event.

By Dr Ishan Capoor, a consultant pulmonologist at Narayana Health, Bengaluru

In today’s hyper-connected world, sleep has become a currency that we readily trade for productivity, late-night binge-watching, doomscrolling, and the barrage of digital noise that never seems to quit. But this constant exchange is bankrupting our health. However, sleep is not an expendable commodity; rather, it is a foundational element of health and well-being.

Sleep isn’t just about getting the hours in. It is a complex biological process essential to physical restoration, cognitive function, and emotional regulation. A typical sleep cycle lasts for approximately 90 minutes and consists of four stages: three non-REM stages and one REM (Rapid Eye Movement) stage.

The Anatomy of Real Rest

Stage 1 marks the transition from wakefulness to sleep, characterized by light, easily disturbed rest. Stage 2 is a deeper phase of light sleep where body temperature drops, and the heart rate slows. Stage 3, or slow-wave sleep, is the most restorative stage of sleep that is critical for physical repair, immune function, and growth hormone release. REM sleep, the fourth stage of the sleep cycle, supports memory consolidation, learning, and emotional processing. It typically comprises 20 to 25 % of total sleep time and lengthens with each cycle throughout the night.

Sleep disruption can significantly impair the body’s ability to recover and function. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), a condition involving repeated airway blockage during sleep, is a primary disruptor. Individuals with OSA often experience disturbed sleep and insufficient oxygen supply, increasing their risk for heart diseases, hypertension, stroke, and heart failure.

What Happens When You Sleep Well?

A well-rested night’s sleep helps to start the day feeling refreshed and energized. In addition to that, it balances hormones, enhances cognitive performance, supports emotional resilience, and boosts physical recovery. The ideal time to fall asleep is between 10 and 11 PM. Maintaining a regular schedule, even on weekends, helps regulate the body’s circadian rhythm in sync.

Who are the Enemies of Rest?

Nowadays, there are multiple challenges to achieving good sleep. Exposure to blue light from mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and computers tells your brain that it’s still daytime, pushing melatonin, the hormone responsible for sleep initiation, to release further into the night.

In addition, adding caffeine into the system late in the day further delays sleep and diminishes its depth. Stress is another obstacle to sleep, since stress and anxiety can activate the body’s fight-or-flight response, making it difficult to relax into sleep.

Sleep Hygiene: Basic Necessities for Good Sleep Health

Although sleep gadgets and trends portray a positive outlook, sticking to the fundamentals of good sleep hygiene can do the trick. Start with keeping your sleep environment cool, dark, and quiet. Strictly minimize the blue light exposure before bedtime, and refrain from exercising intensely right before sleeping. Limit caffeine intake after mid-afternoon, maintain a consistent sleep-wake schedule, and avoid long naps that may interfere with nighttime sleep.

Sleep Trends: What Helps and What Hurts

The popularity of sleep optimization has led to a surge of multiple different fads – some helpful, others potentially harmful. Mouth taping, for instance, aims to encourage forced nasal breathing by taping the mouth shut during sleep. However, there is no scientific backing for this, and it may pose risks, especially for people with OSA who rely on mouth breathing.

Yet another trend is sleep tracking via smartwatches and fitness devices. While this could provide detailed insights on sleeping patterns, it can contribute to sleep-related anxiety when users become fixated on data. This, in turn, can lead to poorer sleep quality.

Real Evidence-Based Help for Real Problems

For those diagnosed with sleep disorders, evidence-based treatment should take priority over trending solutions. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy remains the most effective treatment for OSA management. In addition, Yoga and meditation, and targeted throat exercises can further improve sleep quality.

Prioritize Sleep as a Non-Negotiable Necessity

Sleep is not a resource to be rationed or negotiated away. It is a biological necessity that supports every aspect of health, from brain function to emotional balance. So, stop treating sleep as an expendable commodity. Prioritize it and recognize it for what it truly is – an essential investment in your long-term well-being.

The fully managed Apache Iceberg solution delivers real-time scale, 5x faster queries, and cross-engine access, with up to 50% lower costs

ORLANDO, FL: Qlik®, a global leader in data integration, data quality, analytics, and artificial intelligence, today announced the launch of Qlik Open Lakehouse, a fully managed Apache Iceberg solution built into Qlik Talend Cloud. Designed for enterprises under pressure to scale faster and spend less, Qlik Open Lakehouse delivers real-time ingestion, automated optimization, and multi-engine interoperability — without vendor lock-in or operational overhead.

This marks a major step forward in the evolution of modern data architectures. As organizations accelerate AI adoption, the cost and rigidity of traditional data warehouses have become unsustainable. Qlik Open Lakehouse offers a new path: a fully managed lakehouse architecture powered by Apache Iceberg that delivers 2.5x–5x faster query performance and up to 50% lower infrastructure costs, while maintaining full compatibility with the most widely used analytics and machine learning engines.

“Performance and cost should no longer be a tradeoff in modern data architectures,” said Mike Capone, CEO of Qlik. “With Qlik Open Lakehouse, enterprises gain real-time scale, full control over their data, and the freedom to choose the tools that work best for them. We built this to meet the demands of AI and analytics at enterprise scale — without compromise.”

Qlik Open Lakehouse is built from the ground up to meet the scale, flexibility, and performance demands of modern enterprises, without the tradeoffs. It combines real-time ingestion, intelligent optimization, and true ecosystem interoperability in a single, fully managed platform.

Real-time ingestion at enterprise scale: Ingest millions of records per second from hundreds of sources — including cloud apps, SaaS, SAP, and mainframes — directly into Iceberg tables with low latency and high throughput.

Intelligent Iceberg optimization, fully automated: Qlik’s always-on adaptive Iceberg optimizer handles compaction, clustering, and pruning automatically, delivering up to 5x faster queries and 50% lower storage costs — no tuning required.

Open by design, interoperable by default: Access data in Iceberg tables using a variety of Iceberg-compatible engines, including Snowflake, Amazon Athena, Apache Spark, Trino, and SageMaker — without re-platforming or reprocessing.

Your compute, your cloud, your rules: Runs natively in your AWS VPC with Bring Your Own Compute (BYOC), giving you full control over performance, security, and cost.

One platform, end to end: From ingestion and transformation to governance, data quality, and FinOps visibility, Qlik provides a unified lakehouse experience — no patchwork, no handoffs.

“Enterprises are increasingly adopting lakehouse architectures to unify data across on-premises and cloud environments,” said Matt Aslett, Director of Research, Analytics and Data at ISG Software Research. “Qlik Open Lakehouse, which leverages open standards such as Apache Iceberg, is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for real-time data access and multi-engine interoperability, enabling enterprises to harness the full potential of their data for AI and analytics initiatives.”

As AI workloads demand faster access to broader, fresher datasets, open formats like Apache Iceberg are becoming the new foundation. Qlik Open Lakehouse responds to this shift by making it effortless to build and manage Iceberg-based architectures, without the need for custom code or pipeline babysitting. It also runs within the customer’s own AWS environment, ensuring data privacy, cost control, and full operational visibility.

“Qlik Open Lakehouse initiative is a significant development we’re keenly watching,” shared David Navarro, Data Domain Architect at Toyota Motor Europe. “Large corporations like ours urgently need interoperability between diverse business units and partners, each managing its own technology stack and data sovereignty. Apache Iceberg is emerging as the key to zero-copy data sharing across vendor-independent lakehouses, and Qlik’s commitment to delivering performance and control in these complex, dynamic landscapes is precisely what the industry requires.”

Qlik Open Lakehouse is available now in private preview and is scheduled to be generally available in July 2025. Private preview is limited — early access is encouraged for teams looking to modernize ahead of GA. To learn more and request early access, connect with us at Qlik Connect, May 14–17 in Orlando.
