PUNE: ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) announces the launch of the ‘O Rickshaw’ buyer and seller app on the Network signaling a significant stride in urban mobility for the city of Pune. The app directly connects auto drivers and riders in the city on the Open Network.

The app is owned and operated by End Mile Connectivity Federation, a community-driven Section 8 entity established to empower auto drivers and provide Pune citizens access to safe, affordable auto rides. Over 12,000 auto-rickshaw drivers in Pune are already part of this federation and will now be discoverable on the “O Rickshaw app.” This initiative represents a pioneering moment as it is the first instance of a driver collective coming onto the ONDC Network, an endeavor made possible by the tech enabler Suma Soft.

The launch event had a distinguished line-up of key dignitaries including Mr. T. Koshy (MD and CEO of ONDC), Mr. Hardikar (MD, Pune Metro), Mr. Vivek Velankar (President of Grahak Manch), Mr. Suryakant Pathak (President of Grahak Peth), Mr. Surendra Brahme (Director of Suma Soft) and Mr. Shrikant Acharya (Advisor, End Mile Federation).

This stands as a testament to the consistent eco-friendly initiatives undertaken by the organization to reduce its carbon footprint.

Built with sustainability in mind, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India’s new Parts Expedition Center in Chakan, Pune will facilitate the export of CKD parts for assembly in Vietnam. Some of the key initiatives include optimal orientation for solar power generation, energy-efficient lighting and equipment, water conservation, effective waste management, and promoting a green mindset among employees. To obtain the prestigious Indian Green Building Council certification, organizations must dedicate at least 15% of their total area to greenery. To reduce its carbon footprint, the center also uses electric vehicles and charging stations for internal logistics and operations.

The 18th edition of the three-day flagship biennial event ‘Symposium on International Automotive Technology (SIAT) 2024’ organized by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) concluded today. SIAT 2024 was held at the Pune International Exhibition and Convention Centre (PIECC) – Moshi, PCMC from 23rd to 25th January 2024.

Dr. Reji Mathai; Director of ARAI,  Vikram Shinde; Sr. Deputy Director and Convener at SIAT 2024, were among the dignitaries present on the dais.

The database ‘ARAI – MARG 2.0’ i.e., Measurement and Analysis of Road Geometry an initiative by ARAI, was released at the hands of the dignitaries at the event. Prizes for stalls exhibited, research papers, and special poster competitions for students were also given during the event.

“While providing sustainable options for the auto industry, the primary goal should be the nation’s well-being. Safety-sensitive approaches should be adopted while manufacturing any product. The emphasis should be on the reduction of imports while promoting the production of alternative fuels. As a result, we have to build a holistic ecosystem along with an integrated approach for sustainable alternatives,” Dr Saravanan further added.

He also highlighted the importance of skilled manpower, and how organizations like ARAI should conduct training programs for creating such skilled manpower.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Reji Mathai said, “During SIAT 2024, technical experts shared recent developments in the automotive sector from topics such as E-mobility, Simulation & Modelling, Emission Measurement & Control Technology, Advanced Vehicle Dynamics, Active and Passive Safety, Noise, Vibration & Harshness (NVH), Hydrogen Fuel Cell and Hydrogen I.C. Engine, Testing & Evaluation, Structural Reliability, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Alternative Fuels, ITS & Regulation, Tyre Technology and Materials & Manufacturing. I am glad that this led to a much-anticipated discussion on future technologies. I hope that it must have given everyone an idea of how the technology could hold up as we chase the zero emissions goal shortly.“

SIAT 2024, had technical deliberations with over 210 technical papers and keynotes on futuristic topics by global experts. The selected papers were published in the form of Symposium Proceedings along with the release of a Technical Reference Bulletin containing technical articles, case studies, products, and service information.

The symposium witnessed a gathering of over 1500 automotive technocrats.  Technical experts from 9 countries were present and discussed their research work in 48 technical sessions (8 parallel sessions). In addition, there were 3 plenary sessions and a panel discussion on the theme of SIAT 2024- ‘Transformation Towards Progressive Mobility’.

SIAT Expo 2024 served as an ideal platform for global players in the automotive domain to exhibit their products, technologies, innovations, and services through stalls. “The SIAT EXPO24 showcased 170 companies across the globe, at 340 stalls. This edition of SIAT also featured a Futuristic Technology Pavilion, a Medium Small Scale and Start-up Pavilion (MSSSP) along with a Live Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) demonstration area. PUNE: Mahindra Logistics Limited (MLL), one of India’s largest integrated logistics solutions providers, announced the groundbreaking of its state-of-the-art warehousing facility in Phaltan, near Pune. Encompassing an expansive area of 6.5 lakh sq. ft., this facility will be developed in two phases. The first phase, comprising 3.5 lakh sq. ft., is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2024.

Spread over an area of 25 acres at Phaltan, the new facility will be an important part of Mahindra Logistics Ltd.’s nationwide network of multi-client facilities. Phaltan is a strategic location near key customers in auto OEM & components through this warehouse, Mahindra Logistics will manage inbound logistics to manufacturing and distribution solutions of diverse clients in automotive and manufacturing sectors, located in the region. The facility will be integrated with MLL’s national network of warehouses, full truckload, and express parcel service. Phase 1 has been contracted to a manufacturing customer and will function as their national logistics center and will go live by Q3, 2024-25. 

Amongst the largest warehouses by logistics service providers in the region, the facility will be designed as per Mahindra Logistics Ltd.’s sustainability standards.   These include measures such as decarbonization, utilization of renewable power, adherence to green warehousing standards, and active participation in local community development.  As a part of this announcement, Mahindra Logistics Ltd. also plans to dedicate resources to skill development initiatives, creating employment opportunities for more than 500 individuals in the region. The company and its partners are set to invest Rs. 170 crores in capital across multiple phases for the development of the new facility and related infrastructure.

There is a big subject sitting beneath this in terms of Mass affluence, mass affordability, and mass ambitions and how do we fulfill these energy requirements with mobility being one of the key markers?

Sanjay G. Kolte IAS, Chief Executive Officer of Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd, said that we are embarking on a new journey for future mobility for Pune. As a smart city mission, we are trying to make mobility reliable, safer, smarter, affordable, and holistic. Taking about PMPML he said that currently 67 percent of our bus fleet plying in the city is on CNG and 23 percent on electric and only.10 percent on diesel which will be phased out in coming years. A good beginning has been made and this will go a long way in making transport comfortable, safe, reliable, and sustainable for commuters.

Mr Kiran Acharya, Vice Chairman, CII Pune Zonal Council and Managing Director & Chief Financial Officer Sandvik Coromant India Ltd,  in his concluding address of the inaugural session said that every technological evolution may come with some kind of disruption. This also.will make us think about sustainability.

Some of the state-of-the-art mobility solutions unveiled at the show include e-powertrain Products, e-drivetrain, Engine Cooling Solutions, Battery Thermal Management Systems, Electronic Solutions, and precision-crafted Suspensions tailored for future-ready vehicles. The show is one of India’s largest NexGen mobility shows in western India.
