INDIA: Dr. Reddy’s and Nestlé Health Science Limited, a joint venture between Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BSE: 500124, NSE: DRREDDY, NYSE: RDY, NSEIFSC: DRREDDY; along with its subsidiaries together referred to as “Dr. Reddy’s”) and Nestlé India Limited (BSE: 500790, NSE: NESTLEIND) referred hereafter as “Nestlé India”, today announced the launch of Celevida®GLP+, a specialised scientifically designed product to support optimum nutrition intake and muscle mass maintenance for sustaining metabolic and functional health for people undergoing GLP-1/GIP therapy* for management of type 2 diabetes and obesity in India.

As GLP-1/GIP–based therapies become more widely adopted in the management of type 2 diabetes and obesity, improving access to advanced treatment options for patients, it has become increasingly important to build an integrated ecosystem beyond medication. Encompassing nutrition, clinical monitoring, and long-term patient support, this ecosystem should be an enabler for sustained and holistic outcomes for patients managing type 2 diabetes and obesity. A critical component of this approach is addressing the nutritional gaps and muscle health challenges associated with these therapies to improve overall outcomes.

M.V. Ramana, CEO, Global Generics at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited and Director, Dr. Reddy’s and Nestlé Health Science Limited, “GLP-1 therapies represent a significant advancement in diabetes and obesity management. However, a clear unmet need remains in supporting patients beyond pharmacological treatment, particularly in addressing nutrition gaps and preserving muscle health during therapy. As patients experience changes in body composition, ensuring adequate nutrient intake and maintaining lean body mass become critical to sustaining long-term outcomes. With Celevida® GLP+, we aim to address this gap through a targeted, science-backed nutritional solution that complements pharmacological therapies and supports better overall patient outcomes in their everyday journey. As part of this commitment, we remain focused on advancing integrated, patient-centric solutions that enable more sustainable and holistic management of metabolic health.”

Insights from senior Indian clinicians highlighted a critical and often under-recognized risk: muscle loss during GLP-1/GIP therapy. Studies indicate that 25-40% of total weight loss associated with GLP-1 and dual GLP-1/GIP therapies may be attributed to lean body mass loss (1,2). Experts noted that this risk may be amplified in Indians due to inherently lower baseline skeletal muscle mass and higher body fat mass (3), which may be further compounded by chronically low protein intake of approximately 0.6g/kg/day(4). This creates a dual vulnerability, making muscle preservation not just important, but essential for long-term metabolic health.

Clinical and expert consensus recommend increasing protein intake to 1.2–1.5 g/kg/day to help preserve muscle mass during weight loss, highlighting the need for customised nutritional support (5).

Addressing this need, Celevida® GLP+ has been scientifically designed and co-created with leading endocrinologists and diabetologists to address protein gaps and preserve muscle mass and function in individuals undergoing GLP-1/GIP therapy. It is formulated using fast-absorbing whey protein isolate (WPI), known to be gentle on the gut and suitable during periods of gastrointestinal intolerance commonly associated with GLP-1/GIP therapy. Celevida® GLP+ provides 48 g of protein per 100 g, along with 100% RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance) of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). It also provides 27 essential nutrients, including vitamins A, D, and calcium. Dr. Reddy’s and Nestlé Health Science have an established presence in specialised nutrition for people with diabetes through its Celevida® Diabetes Nutrition, designed to support comprehensive diabetes management. The formulation is clinically proven to support sustained 24-hour blood glucose control and reduce HbA1c levels (6), and is characterised by a low glycaemic index(7), making it suitable for long-term metabolic management.

Celevida® GLP+ is available in a 350 g pack across pharmacies, retail outlets, and leading e-commerce platforms.

Aster Whitefield Hospital Launches Karnataka’s First Dedicated Liver ICU: Pivotal shift in Liver-specific critical care in the Region

BENGALURU: Taking a major initiative towards expert liver care, Aster Whitefield Hospital has declared the launch of the first dedicated Liver Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Karnataka. This is a state-of-the-art facility designed only for liver failure patients, those having biliary problems, and liver transplant cases. The ICU, named SHIELD (Specialized Hepatic Intensive & Emergency Liver Division), is a state-of-the-art facility designed solely for patients with liver failure, biliary problems, and liver transplant cases. Setting the Liver-specific ICU as a real rescue for patients in critical condition, it is a confluence of renowned doctors, modern facilities, and continuous patient monitoring to provide highly specialised, multi-disciplinary care aimed at improving patient outcomes. Through this, Aster has once again shown its desire to promote islands of excellence aimed at quaternary single-organ care pathways for better results for patients with complicated liver diseases. The programme was honoured by the presence of Dr. C. N. Manjunath, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), as the Chief Guest.

Speaking ahead of the inauguration, Dr. C. N. Manjunath said, “Liver problems are turning out to be a sneaky but major health issue in India, and usually, it’s at a very severe stage when the patients are found. A liver ICU dedicated to liver care opening at Aster Whitefield Hospital is a very appropriate and great step that will enable our healthcare system to be more efficient and quicker in handling very difficult liver cases. Apart from better survival chances, specialized facilities equip the patient care to be comprehensive and in collaboration with various medical disciplines.”

Adding to this, Dr. H R S Girn, Senior Consultant – HPB and Liver Transplant surgeon, Aster Whitefield Hospital, said: “The establishment of a specialty Liver ICU represents an innovative approach in the establishment of a single point care facility for liver sick patients requiring what we call the Liver Arc services (Hepatology, ICU, Surgery, Transplantation, Luminal and radiological interventions) under one roof. A person with decompensated cirrhosis or liver failure experiences rapid changes within a short period of time. Thus, in this case, having a speciality dedicated ICU implies that all actions can be taken efficiently and effectively for the patients and their families. In turn, this provides a seamless referral and healthcare delivery pathway aimed at holistic liver care, liver-specific training for budding future specialists, and brings liver care at par with other resource-intensive single-organ dedicated ICUs like the Cardiac or Neuro ICUs, which have traditionally been the norm. With busy lives, nuclear families, and increasing liver disease burden in the country, single organ-specific facilities under trusted brands like Aster are the need of the hour as a single point of contact resource for the patients suffering from life-threatening conditions.”

Srikant Subudhi, Chief Operating Officer, Aster Whitefield Hospital, added: “At Aster Whitefield Hospital, the core of our efforts is the creation of highly sophisticated, patient-oriented healthcare ecosystems that can effectively meet the various clinical needs of today and tomorrow. The launching of Karnataka’s first dedicated Liver ICU is a powerful indication of how we are always ready to put our money into the specialised infrastructure which is capable of dealing with the increasing complexity of liver-related diseases. Not only does this facility leverage state-of-the-art technology and a wide range of medical experts, but it also ensures continuous monitoring for better clinical results and provides easier access to specialised and high-quality treatment.“

The Liver ICU will be a collaborative endeavor by a team of highly skilled and proficient physicians, including liver transplantation surgeons, hepatologists, and gastroenterologists, as well as critical care specialists. This dedicated unit will try to fill a major void in the liver care infrastructure of Karnataka, and it will be a one-stop solution for patients to get timely, cutting-edge, and life-saving treatment.

By Deepali Maheshwari, MASLP (Senior Speech and Language therapist, walnut clinic)

Imagine a garden where some seeds sprout overnight, while others remain beneath the soil, waiting for the right conditions to bloom. In child development, we often hear the phrase “wait and watch,” but for a child facing neurodivergent challenges, waiting can mean missing the most critical growth window. Early Intervention is that “right condition”, it is the specialized sunlight and soil that allows a child to flourish. At Walnut Child Development Clinic, we don’t just wait for milestones; we create the neurological pathways that make them possible. Whether it is a child with Autism finding their first words or a toddler with ADHD learning to navigate a sensory-heavy world, our mission is to turn “I can’t” into “I did.”

The Science of “Now”
The human brain undergoes its most rapid period of development between birth and age 5. During this window, neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to form new neural connections, is at its peak. Early Intervention is not just about “catching up”; it is about clinical precision. By addressing concerns like primitive reflex integration, communication, social pragmatics, sensory processing, and motor planning early on, we can literally reshape a child’s developmental trajectory.

At Walnut Clinic, our approach moves beyond traditional therapy. We look at the “whole child.” For instance, a child struggling with attention in school might actually be dealing with underlying postural insecurities or unintegrated reflexes. By addressing the root physiological cause, we unlock their ability to learn and engage.

A Holistic Ecosystem of Care
True transformation requires more than a single perspective, which is why Walnut Clinic operates as a multidisciplinary sanctuary. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Chanchal Agrawal and Mrs. Deepali Maheshwari, our team works in a seamless loop of communication. We understand that a child isn’t a collection of isolated symptoms; they are a complex, blooming individual. To support this, we offer a comprehensive range of evidence-based treatments:

Occupational Therapy: Improving sensory processing, fine motor skills, and independence in daily activities.

Speech and Language Therapy: Bridging communication gaps for both verbal and non-verbal children.

Pediatric Physiotherapy: Enhancing functional strength, posture, and gross motor milestones.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Behavioral Support: Utilizing structured strategies to manage social transitions and school-based behaviors.

Special Education: Tailoring learning techniques to meet the unique cognitive needs of every learner.

Group therapy: To enhance child social development ( Pragmatics)

A 360-Degree Support System for Families
We firmly believe that a child’s progress shouldn’t be confined to a 45-minute therapy session. This is why Walnut Clinic is a pioneer in building a supportive ecosystem that extends far beyond the therapy room. We don’t just treat children; we empower entire families through our dedicated community initiatives.
We also host free parental support groups that serve as a safe space for families to connect, share experiences, and learn strategies for navigating challenges.
Furthermore, we believe that the right tools make all the difference in home-based progress. The Walnut Store offers a curated selection of therapeutic toys, sensory tools, and educational aids specifically chosen by our experts to complement your child’s clinical goals. This ensures that the progress made at our clinic continues seamlessly within the comfort of your home.

Conclusion: Empowering the Journey Ahead
The true measure of early intervention is not found in a single session, but in the long-term confidence a child carries into the world. It is about ensuring that every child, regardless of their starting point, has the tools to navigate life with independence and joy. At Walnut Child Development Clinic, we see our role as more than just therapists; we are partners in your child’s growth. By bridging the gap between clinical expertise and a supportive community through our workshops, store, and support groups, we strive to make the developmental journey one of hope and celebration rather than stress. Your child’s potential is a story waiting to be written, and we are here to provide the support needed to make every chapter a success.

The initiative has been made possible by the support of the Kalyani family, who have contributed to establishing the Kalyani Institute of Robotic HIFU Therapy at Ruby Hall Clinic, to improve access to advanced cancer care in India.

With over 40,000 new cases of prostate cancer diagnosed annually in India, many men traditionally delay treatment due to the risks associated with invasive surgery or radiation – specifically concerns regarding recovery time and long-term functional health.
Robotic HIFU addresses these fears by offering:
• Targeted Precision: Destroys cancerous tissue while sparing surrounding healthy structures.
• Non-Invasive Nature: A completely incision-free and radiation-free procedure.
• Rapid Recovery: Typically performed as a day-case, allowing patients to return to their lives almost immediately.
• Preserved Quality of Life: Significantly reduces the risk of urinary and sexual dysfunction compared to traditional methods.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. P.K. Grant, Chairman and Managing Trustee of Ruby Hall Clinic, said, “The introduction of the Indian subcontinent’s first Robotic HIFU therapy at Ruby Hall Clinic marks an important milestone for cancer care in our region. Our commitment has always been to bring advanced and meaningful medical technology to patients in India rather than wait for it to reach us years later. Establishing this programme reflects that philosophy and ensures that our patients have access to treatment options that prioritise both outcomes and quality of life.”

Dr Baba Kalyani, Chairman and Managing Director Bharat Forge, whose family’s philanthropic support made the institute possible, emphasised the importance of local access: “I have always believed that advances in technology should be used for the good of society. This programme is a clear example of how digital and AI-enabled innovation can make a real difference to patients by offering precise, minimally invasive treatment. Under the leadership of Dr Himesh Gandhi, the Robotic HIFU system has already begun delivering encouraging results for patients. I would like to congratulate Dr Purvez Grant and his team for making it possible for us to bring this technology to society.”

Dr Simon Grant, Physician and Trustee, Ruby Hall Clinic, noted, “FOCAL ONE offers a level of precision that allows us to treat only the areas affected by cancer with the intention of maintaining functional outcomes. We assess that cancer control can be achieved while preserving day-to-day quality of life for patients.”

Ms. Natalie Grant Nanda Ruby Hall Clinic, SPL, “Bringing the Indian subcontinent’s first Robotic HIFU therapy to Pune continues that legacy while setting the foundation for the next generation of cancer care. We are honoured to have the support of the Kalyani family in making this possible.”

From a clinical perspective Dr Himesh Gandhi, Consultant Uro-oncologist and Director of Robotic Surgery at Ruby Hall Clinic, said, “For many men, the fear of the treatment is as great as the fear of the cancer itself. Robotic HIFU removes that barrier, offering a non-invasive pathway that prioritises the patient’s functional independence and quick return to daily life.”

With the establishment of the Kalyani Institute of Robotic HIFU Therapy, Ruby Hall Clinic strengthens its position as a leader in advanced oncological care with an emphasis on accessibility, clinical excellence, and improved patient experience.

By Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad, Orthopaedic Surgeon – Shoulder & Knee Specialist

As soon as winter arrives, Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad begins to notice a familiar pattern in his orthopaedic clinic. The number of patients complaining of knee and shoulder pain steadily increases, and the conversations start to sound strikingly similar. Many patients smile knowingly and say, “Doctor, the cold has found my knees again,” or “My shoulder pain always comes back in winter.” As an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and knee injuries, Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad treats a significant number of patients with knee osteoarthritis and rotator cuff tears every winter season.

According to Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad, winter does not actually create joint problems—but it certainly amplifies existing ones. Joint pain that may be mild or manageable during warmer months often becomes louder and more persistent in cold weather. One of the key reasons for this is the drop in barometric pressure that accompanies colder temperatures. When atmospheric pressure decreases, the tissues inside and around joints can expand slightly. In healthy joints, this change is barely noticeable. However, in joints already affected by cartilage wear, arthritis, or tendon injuries, this subtle expansion can irritate sensitive nerve endings and worsen pain.
In patients with knee osteoarthritis, Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad frequently sees increased stiffness, swelling, and discomfort during winter. Many patients complain that their knees feel heavy, tight, or painful first thing in the morning. Simple activities such as getting out of bed, standing after prolonged sitting, or climbing stairs become challenging. Similarly, patients with rotator cuff tears or shoulder impingement often report worsening shoulder pain, reduced range of motion, and disturbed sleep, particularly night pain that intensifies in cold conditions.

Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad observes that elderly patients with knee arthritis are especially vulnerable during the winter months. Morning stiffness tends to last longer, walking distances are reduced, and fear of slipping often limits mobility even further. Prolonged sitting indoors, whether watching television or resting, allows joints to stiffen, making movement painful when activity is resumed. At the same time, younger and middle-aged patients with shoulder injuries frequently report sharp pain when reaching overhead, difficulty lifting everyday objects, and discomfort while dressing or sleeping on the affected side.

Another major contributor to winter joint pain, Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad explains, is reduced blood circulation. Cold temperatures cause blood vessels to constrict, which limits blood flow to muscles, tendons, and joint tissues. Reduced circulation means less oxygen and fewer nutrients reach already compromised joints, slowing healing and increasing stiffness. This is particularly problematic in the shoulder, where tendons such as the rotator cuff rely heavily on good blood supply to maintain strength and flexibility.

Cold weather also affects the muscles and tendons that support joints. Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad often explains to his patients that muscles become tighter and less elastic in colder temperatures. Tight muscles place extra strain on joints, increasing pain and the risk of injury. This is why flare-ups of shoulder pain and sudden knee discomfort are so common in winter, especially among patients who skip warm-up exercises or significantly reduce their physical activity.

Lifestyle changes during winter further add to the problem. Shorter days, colder mornings, and fear of outdoor activity often lead to a more sedentary routine. Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad emphasizes that joints thrive on movement. When movement decreases, the natural lubrication provided by synovial fluid also reduces, allowing stiffness and inflammation to build up. Over time, this creates a vicious cycle of pain, reduced activity, and further joint deterioration.

Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad’s Winter-Proof Joint Care Tips

Drawing from years of experience treating knee arthritis and shoulder injuries, Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad strongly believes that proper winter care can make a significant difference in joint health and comfort.

● Keep moving, even indoors: “Motion is medicine,” Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad often tells his patients. Gentle indoor activities such as walking inside the house, stationary cycling, yoga, or stretching help maintain joint flexibility and reduce stiffness. Even short, frequent movement breaks are beneficial.

● Warm up before you move: Cold muscles are far more prone to injury. Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad advises patients—especially those with rotator cuff tears and knee arthritis—to spend 5–10 minutes warming up before exercise or even daily chores. Simple range-of-motion movements can prevent painful flare-ups.

● Keep joints warm: Wearing layers, knee caps, or shoulder wraps helps improve circulation and reduce stiffness. Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad frequently recommends joint supports during winter for added comfort and protection.

● Strength matters: Strong muscles protect joints. Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad emphasizes strengthening the quadriceps and hamstrings to reduce load on arthritic knees, while targeted rotator cuff and shoulder blade exercises help stabilize the shoulder and prevent further injury.

● Watch your posture: Poor posture, especially during prolonged sitting or mobile phone use, increases stress on the shoulder joints. Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad often corrects posture-related shoulder pain by advising ergonomic adjustments and posture awareness.

● Maintain a healthy weight: Excess body weight significantly increases stress on knee joints. Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad reminds patients that even modest weight reduction can lead to noticeable improvement in knee pain.

● Don’t ignore persistent pain:
Perhaps the most important advice Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad gives is not to dismiss winter joint pain as “normal.” Persistent pain, swelling, or loss of function may indicate worsening arthritis, tendon damage, or other treatable conditions. Early evaluation and timely treatment can prevent long-term joint damage and avoid surgery in many cases.

As Dr. Sana Ahmed Sayyad often reassures his patients, “Winter may make your joints feel older—but with the right care, awareness, and treatment, they don’t have to act their age.” With proper joint care and expert guidance, shoulders and knees can remain strong, flexible, and functional throughout the winter season and beyond.”

PUNE: In one of the most complex neonatal emergencies managed this year, Inamdar Multispeciality Hospital, Fatima Nagar, successfully saved a newborn diagnosed antenatally with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH)—a rare but life-threatening birth anomaly in which a defect in the diaphragm allows abdominal organs to migrate into the chest cavity, severely restricting lung development.

This case stands out not only because of its rarity but also because it exemplifies high-level teamwork, rapid preparedness, and best medical practices across multiple specialties.

Antenatal Detection and High-Risk Admission

On 15/11/2025, a 28-year-old expectant mother was admitted under the expert care of Dr. Swatika Kumari, Senior Gynaecologist, after a detailed fetal anomaly scan revealed left-sided CDH with severely hypoplastic lungs.

Recognising the extreme risk of respiratory collapse immediately after birth, the hospital activated its High-Risk Delivery Protocol, ensuring that the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and surgical teams were on standby.

Birth and the Critical Golden Hour

The baby was delivered on November 15, 2025, at 9:16 AM. As anticipated, the newborn presented with severe respiratory distress, a classic indicator of compromised lung development in CDH cases.

Under the leadership of Dr. Ashwin Borade, Senior Pediatrician & Neonatologist, the NICU team initiated rapid resuscitation, advanced ventilation, and hemodynamic stabilisation. The first hour proved crucial, as the team worked swiftly to maintain oxygenation and prevent circulatory collapse.

Within hours, the neonate underwent a comprehensive evaluation to determine surgical readiness—an assessment made more challenging due to fragile lungs and compromised cardiopulmonary dynamics.

Life-Saving Surgical Intervention at 24 Hours of Life

At approximately 24 hours after birth, Dr. Pranav Jadhav, Pediatric Surgeon, performed a critical corrective surgery to reconstruct the diaphragm and reposition herniated abdominal organs.

The procedure required extraordinary precision, given:

The newborn’s severely underdeveloped lungs

High anaesthesia risk

Potential intra-operative instability

Early intervention, coupled with coordinated preparation in the NICU, proved decisive in improving long-term survival chances.

Intensive Post-Operative Care and Steady Recovery

Over the next several days, the newborn remained under continuous NICU monitoring, requiring ventilatory support and vigilant management to prevent complications such as pulmonary hypertension, sepsis, shock, or feeding issues.

NICU nurses and resident doctors provided round-the-clock care, ensuring stabilisation of respiratory and cardiovascular parameters, gradual weaning from the ventilator, and careful initiation of feeds.

During this period, Lactation Consultant Dr. Rani Balgude offered essential support to the mother. Through structured counselling, guided expression technique,s and supervised latching, she facilitated the successful initiation of breastfeeding—an outcome crucial for immunity, growth, and emotional bonding in high-risk neonates.

Discharge and A Story of Hope

On 07/12/2025, the baby was discharged in stable condition, feeding exclusively on breastmilk and showing no post-operative complications.

For the medical team, the moment symbolised the culmination of weeks of dedication and teamwork.

“Cases like this remind us that medicine is not just science—it is teamwork, trust, and compassion. Our NICU team worked around the clock, and watching this little warrior leave the hospital in good health was truly heart-warming,” said Dr. Ashwin Borade, Senior Pediatrician & Neonatologist.

“This successful outcome reinforces how early diagnosis, coordinated preparedness, and multidisciplinary expertise can turn a critical neonatal emergency into a story of survival and hope,” added Dr. Pranav Jadhav, Pediatric Surgeon.

AI holds promise to advance fetal medicine and make it more accessible – experts

PUNE: KEM Hospital, Pune, successfully conducted the third edition of the National Conference on Fetal Medicine, bringing together leading experts to discuss advancements in prenatal diagnostics, fetal therapy, and the growing importance of fetal medicine as a specialized branch.

Experts at the conference highlighted that early intervention plays a vital role in improving outcomes for both mother and baby. Conditions such as fetal growth restriction, congenital anomalies, genetic disorders, and placental insufficiencies can often be identified early, facilitating multidisciplinary planning, targeted treatment, and—in certain cases—life-saving fetal procedures before birth. The National level conference saw presentations and guidance from various renowned experts, including Dr. Manikandan Krishnan, a renowned consultant in fetal medicine, Prof. Suresh Seshadri, Director of MediScan Systems Diagnostic Ultrasound, Fetal Medicine and Training Centre in Chennai, Dr.Sudarshan S., a renowned fetal medicine expert, and Dr.Shreepad Karhade, HoD Fetal Medicine Department at KEM Hospital. The participants included gynaecologists, radiologists, and fetal medicine experts.

This conference was organised as part of the hospital’s ongoing commitment to continuous medical education, complementing its strong focus on clinical excellence and research.

Fetal medicine is rapidly emerging as a critical field in modern healthcare, focusing on the early identification, monitoring, and management of conditions affecting the unborn baby. With advancements in ultrasound technology and fetal imaging, clinicians can detect developmental anomalies as early as the first trimester. This early diagnosis allows timely interventions, informed decision-making, and better preparedness for high-risk pregnancies.

KEM Hospital’s Department of Fetal Medicine has been a pioneer in providing comprehensive prenatal services in the region. The hospital offers advanced ultrasound evaluations, fetal echocardiography, growth and Doppler studies, genetic counselling, and coordinated care for high-risk pregnancies. Its multidisciplinary team—including maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists, geneticists, and obstetricians—ensures accurate diagnosis, compassionate counselling, and seamless care from pregnancy through delivery.

Dr. Manikandan Krishnan, a renowned fetal medicine expert, said that fetal medicine has four pillars – prevention, detection of abnormalities, treatment, and support through making the couple get answers as they are overwhelmed with a lot of questions in their mind.

The challenge is that a vast majority of people, because of a lack of awareness, come much later in the pregnancy, said Dr.Sudarshan S. fetal medicine expert based out of Chennai. We need to create awareness that they should come before they plan a pregnancy, where genetic counselling will also come into the picture. Speaking about the future of fetal medicine, he said that the research is going on multiple levels. We are doing a lot of research in AI to see how machine learning algorithms can be set up to read all the pictures and whether these algorithms can be incorporated in the ultrasound machines so that primary care level persons can also see any red flags and refer them further to the specialist. Advancements in research are also happening in abnormalities and genetic problems.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Xerxes Coyaji, Medical Director, KEM Hospital, Pune, said, “Fetal Medicine is transforming the landscape of prenatal care. Early and accurate diagnosis empowers families and clinicians alike, enabling timely interventions that can significantly improve perinatal outcomes. At KEM Hospital, our commitment is to ensure that every expectant mother has access to high-quality, evidence-based fetal care.”

Fetal Medicine Consultants Dr. Shreepad Karhade and Dr. Shweta Gugale emphasized that parents and the public need to be aware that certain conditions identified during fetal life can be treated while the baby is still in the mother’s womb. These treatment options are highly complex and require an advanced level of expertise, involving extensive training, close mentoring, and a highly skilled team of multidisciplinary subspecialists. “The right patient receiving the right treatment at the right time from the right team ensures the best outcome for the unborn child,” they noted.

The event was led by Organising Chairperson Dr. Vivek Joshi, with Organising Secretaries Dr. Shreepad Karhade and Dr. Shweta Gugale, supported by an experienced scientific committee. The conference underscored KEM Hospital’s commitment to expanding fetal medicine awareness and strengthening access to advanced prenatal care for families across

MUMBAI: BVG India, known for its large-scale presence across integrated facility management, emergency response services, and environmental solutions, is exploring a new line of business in the senior living and assisted care space. India’s elderly population is expected to rise sharply, creating pressure on traditional caregiving models and widening the gap for organised senior care. Against this backdrop, BVG is evaluating a structured senior living platform called ‘Amrut Anand’, with plans to develop professionally managed communities offering independent living, assisted care, memory care, and specialised wellness and medical-support services.

What makes this move noteworthy is its alignment with BVG’s existing capabilities. The company already works deeply within hospitals, medical institutes, and public health emergency systems across several states. Its operational experience in hygiene management, ICU cleaning protocols, medical waste handling, and patient-assistance staffing places it in a position to extend into long-term elder-care environments, which require consistent standards and regulated service delivery.

The proposed expansion focuses on Tier-2 cities, where demand for organised senior living is rising alongside changing family structures and growing middle-class affordability. Tier-2 markets also offer lower real-estate pressures and longer-term scalability for projects of this nature. The development appears in the company’s ongoing disclosures related to its IPO process, indicating a strategic shift into an area driven by strong demographic tailwinds.

The senior living initiative also ties into broader consumption and social trends: dual-income families, rising life expectancy, and a shift toward formal care solutions. While India’s senior-care landscape remains largely fragmented and under-penetrated, the emergence of larger organised operators signals a sector that may see accelerated formalisation over the next decade.

For BVG, which has diversified recently into areas such as emergency services technology platforms, renewable-energy services, and food solutions, the development points to a wider strategy of building businesses with long-term, predictable demand and deeper engagement with institutional and community ecosystems.
