PUNE: The prestigious Bharatatma Ved Puraskar will be presented on November 17 at the Dadasaheb Darode Auditorium, Agarkar Road, near BMCC, Shivajinagar in Pune, on the occasion of the death anniversary of Late Shri Ashokji Singhal Ji. The ceremony will take place in the presence of Param Pujya Swami Shri Govinddev Giriji Maharaj, and the awards will be conferred by Param Pujya Acharyaji Shri Pradyumnaji Maharaj.

Established in memory of Late Shri Ashokji Singhal Ji, the Bharatatma Ved Puraskar recognizes contributions to Vedic education and scholarship.

Shri Singhal, a visionary leader and a founding member of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), played a pivotal role in the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement and served as the International President of the VHP for over two decades. A devoted follower of India’s ancient wisdom, he was deeply committed to the revival and propagation of the Vedic knowledge tradition and the Gurukul education system. Throughout his life, Shri Singhal made invaluable contributions to preserving and promoting the study and practice of the Vedas.

Now in its ninth edition, the Bharatatma Ved Puraskar has been presented annually for the past eight years. The awards recognize exceptional contributions across three categories:

• Outstanding Vedic Student – ₹3 lakh cash prize
• Ideal Vedic Teacher – ₹5 lakh cash prize
• Excellent Vedic Institution – ₹7 lakh cash prize

Each recipient will also receive a certificate and a commemorative memento.

The ceremony will also include the presentation of the Veda Arpita Jeevan Samman, or Lifetime Vedic Dedication Award. This honour is given to scholars aged 65 or above who have devoted their lives to the study, teaching, and practice of Vedic knowledge. The award carries a cash prize of ₹5 lakh and a certificate of recognition.

The winners of the Bharatatma Ved Puraskar 2025 will be announced during the ceremony.

LAVASA: The 9^th convocation ceremony of Christ University, Lavasa was organized on 15th July, Saturday, at its serene Lavasa residential campus. The ceremony was held in the august presence of the Chief Guest, Dr. Dnyaneshwar Mulay – Member NHRM and Former Diplomat and High Commissioner of India to Maldives, Fr (Dr) Joseph CC – Vice Chancellor Christ University,  Fr (Dr) Lijo Thomas Director & Dean – Christ University Lavasa, Dr. Anil Pinto – Registrar,  Dr Johny Joseph – Registrar, Academics faculty, staff and proud parents along with their convocating wards.

The grand ceremony felicitated all students on a significant milestone in their lives. Rank holders and best outgoing students held pride of place amongst their peers who joyfully applauded each other’s achievements. 605 students across various programs offered at the University, including MBA, BSc & MSc (Economics & Analytics), BSc & MSc (Data Science), Law, and Commerce were awarded their degrees. The convocation saw 407 students from the undergraduate programs, 195 from the postgraduate programs, and 3 PhD students receiving their degrees.

Dr Mulay congratulated Christ University for completing 10 years in Lavasa and contributing to the educational development of the region. Dr. Mulay advised students on the continuing responsibility each of them held as torchbearers for creating not just economic value but also participating in progressing human dignity and respect for all humanity as a primary occupational value. These inspiring ideas also resonate with the core values of ‘Excellence and Service’ of Christ University, which are instilled in each student as part of their holistic learning. Dr Mulay urged students to develop a scientific temper and maintain a spirit of curiosity and inquiry.

Dr. Mulay further asserted that through our diverse culture, rich traditions, and history of knowledge since ancient times, India has the potential to become the Educational Hub of the world and reverse the education migration to other developed countries.

Fr (Dr) Joseph CC, Vice Chancellor, reflected on how Christ University began its journey in 1969 as a single college. It has now grown to one of the leading Universities in India, with six campuses in 3 cities. He added that the Convocation is a significant milestone in a student’s journey, not merely in acquiring a degree but also in knowledge gained, friendships forged, and life experiences that help shape each student’s character and temperament.

Fr (Dr) Lijo Thomas, Campus Director, and Dean concluded the inspiring messages emphasizing the residential aspects of community life, which fosters self-reliance and continuous learning. He reflected on the humble beginnings of the Lavasa campus in 2014 with 12 students to the current 2010 students, with the first batch of Law students graduating on this day.

The convocation ceremony celebrates the Lavasa residential campus of Christ University as it continues to grow through its student community, learned faculty, staff, and the local community of residents.

PUNE: The eighth convocation ceremony of Ajeenkya DY Patil University (ADYPU) was organized on Tuesday evening. The Ceremony was held in the august presence of Chief Guest Shri Ramesh Bais, Honorable Governor of Maharashtra. Dr Ajeenkya DY Patil-President-ADYPU presided during the Ceremony. Ms. Pooja Patil, Chairperson, Ajeenkya DY Patil Group graced the occasion. Prof. Hrridaysh Deshpande, Vice Chancellor presented the university report.

The grand convocation witnessed the presence of five eminent stalwart leaders who were conferred the Doctor of Letters –Honoris Causa (D.Litt.) for their valuable contribution to the world of entrepreneurship, law, national security, cinema, business, and society.

The recipients included Mr. Bharat Amalkar, Educationist and Promoter of Social Entrepreneurship, Mr. J Sai Deepak, Counsel Supreme Court of India and Author- The Bharat Tetralogy, Mr. Robert Walton MBE, President, Restaurant Association of Great Britain, Lt. Gen. Vinod Khandare (Retd), Principal Advisor Ministry of Defence, GOI, and Mr. Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, Indian Filmmaker were conferred with The Degree of Doctor of Letters Honoris Causa (D.Litt.) of the university.

Hon Governor of Maharashtra Shri Ramesh Bais referred to Vikasit Bharat@2047 Voice of Youth ‘ launched by Hon. Prime Minister he said that youth should share their thoughts. He said that today’s generation of students is seeing a transformational journey of our country transitioning from a developing nation to a developed nation presenting them with a lot of opportunities. This is the time for students to play an important role in this transformational journey. Students should become entrepreneurs with new ideas and startups. 

He added that the stability of the country will need inclusive growth which will benefit everybody especially those at the bottom of the economic pyramid. In this regard, he urged Universities like ‘ ADYPU’ to adopt a village and involve students in the progress of the village so that they become sensitive and responsible citizens.

Dr Ajeenkya DY Patil, President, of Ajeenkya DY Patil University said that the University is making a positive impact on society through its distinctive education, innovative research, and most importantly its relentless pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning. The university has undertaken an ambitious infrastructure development plan which would create world-class facilities for students and research. To prepare our students for a VUCA world, we are focusing on life skills as much as domain-specific skills. We are making conscious efforts to blend the Bhartiya Knowledge Systems in our academic delivery to be the bridge in linking Bharat with the world.

In his welcome address, Hrridaysh Deshpande, Vice Chancellor, Ajeenkya DY Patil University presented the University Report. He highlighted the new cutting-edge multidisciplinary programs initiated at the university such as Space Technology, Digital Health Technology, and many more. He mentioned the several international partnerships that the university forged in the year to enhance student and faculty mobility. He proudly presented that the ADYPU graduates have one of the highest employer satisfaction as our graduates are work-ready and equipped with the skills and knowledge to contribute and make a real difference.

Around 852 students across 13 Master’s programs and 23 bachelor’s programs including Management, Design, Engineering, Law, Architecture, Hotel Management, Film, and Media were conferred degrees. This includes the first batch of five Ph.D. scholars which is a testament to ADYPU’s commitment to Research-oriented education. At the graduation ceremony, 159 students from various programs were honored with Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals for academic excellence.

PUNE: The Big Ears Department at KEM Hospital, Pune will host its annual graduation program for students who have undergone cochlear implants followed by a rehabilitation program. About 178 children have completed the program this year which also includes listening and speaking. To date 641 children have benefitted from this pioneering initiative by KEM Hospital, Pune started in 2006. The graduation ceremony will be held on Friday 15th December 2023 at KEM Hospital, Pune, and includes students who have developed near-normal speech and language skills enabling him/ her to become a part of mainstream society. They no longer require continuous assistance from the hospital team. 

Dr. Neelam Vaid, HoD Big Ears who was instrumental in setting up this Big Ears clinic in 2006 said this unique initiative focuses on early detection, diagnosis, and therapy of hearing loss. Big Ears Clinic offers all the services needed for the hearing challenged; from a variety of tests that detect hearing loss to hearing aids, speech therapy, counseling, and cochlear implants for the deaf. Post the implant the children undergo a rehabilitation program under the guidance of a team consisting of audiologists, therapists, speech and language pathologists, and surgeons who ensure that the family receives appropriate advice and care. It does not end there, 98% of our patients come from families that cannot afford this expensive technology. Over the past 18 years, we have helped many children and their families get financial aid and acquire this technology. It’s not been an easy task and the commitment of the social workers of the KEM Hospital, Pune is to be lauded. 

She added that a graduation program generally is for those who have passed their academic tests. But this graduation program is special as it reflects a much better life ahead for the children and salutes the commitment of the parents whose perseverance has given a new lease of life for their children.

Every year, children will put up a special dance performance during the program as a gratitude for the support they received from everyone.

Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Pro-Chancellor informed about the Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (SSPU)’s unique pedagogy which focuses on 70 percent practical or hands-on training. She also informed me about various initiatives. Dr. S. B. Mujumdar highlighted the need for a skill-based education in our country especially when India has the advantage of a demographic dividend – a large pool of young population who can be skilled to become job ready. He said that SSPU has made significant strides in providing skill-based training to the youth of our country.

Hon. Governor of Maharashtra, Shri. Bhagat Singh Koshyari said that What the state requires is skill-based education which will help the youth to obtain jobs in the local industry and at the same time this will satisfy the demand of industry for skilled manpower. He further congratulated SSPU for bridging the gap between industry and academia. Hon. Governor also congratulated women who acquired various skills through various programs at the University.

Shri Rajesh Khatri congratulated the girls from underprivileged and rural backgrounds for successfully completing the FIAT-Symbiosis Wingyaan program and for excellent placement. This joint project between Fiat India and Symbiosis Skills and Professional University provides underprivileged girls a chance to get trained in the area of Manufacturing excellence. The training of the girls is funded through Fiat CSR. The 1st batch which got awarded diplomas at Convocation has got an excellent placement with high salary packages.

At the 3^rd convocation ceremony, 722 students (411 UG and PG Degrees, 30 Diplomas, and 281 Certificates) were awarded certificates for successfully completing their program at Skill University.

Mr. Turai Anjaneya Krishna, B. Sc. Data Science, and Mr. Patil Sohan Arun, M.Tech Mechatronics (IOT, AI & Robotics), received The Chancellor’s Gold Medals this year. The Chancellor’s Gold Medal is given to the ‘Best Outgoing Student’.

In order to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship, SSPU is the 1^st university in India that has constituted the ‘Atmanirbhar Award’. The award is conferred on a student of the university who has started his/her own innovative business from scratch. This year’s Aatmanirbhat Award has been conferred to Mr. Abraham Fernandes – B.Tech Mechatronics Engineering for starting his own paper bag manufacturing business and employing many people.

Mr. Swapnil Makhare and Ms. Swati Panchal received the ‘Kushal Award’ at the convocation ceremony. The University also confers the ‘Kushal Award’ on those students who have acquired skills at the university and successfully launched their careers.  

It should be noted that for the first time in our country, the University is awarding two-year diplomas after 10^th standard to girls from underprivileged families. On the occasion of the Convocation, covid widows and graduates from the economically weaker section of society who underwent various skill training courses at the University were awarded certificates.
