 As part of its ongoing initiative to promote the Media & Entertainment (M&E) industry, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, is hosting the inaugural edition of the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Delhi from 5th -9th February 2025.  The objective of the WAVES roadshow is to foster collaboration and engagement among stakeholders in the AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Immersive Realities) sectors, discuss the challenges faced by the industry along with growth initiatives, and raise awareness about the “Create in India” Challenge, a key feature of WAVES. The WAVES will also involve some interesting competition in the form of challenges that will engage young creators and techies. 

Neerja Sekhar, Hon’ble Special Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, highlighted the diversity within the media and entertainment sector, noting that it encompasses many different segments that need to connect and collaborate. She emphasized the industry’s need for a marketplace to support the growth, promotion, and distribution of content. “Any entertainment content produced in India—be it podcasts, reels, VFX, or comics—should have a viable market,” she stated. In response to this need, the ministry has organized the inaugural Indian Global Summit, ‘WAVES,’ set to take place next year in Delhi. WAVES will provide a platform for the entire industry to showcase its best work and foster interaction across segments. Neerja Sekhar also mentioned the importance of cross-segment dialogue as each area progresses, and announced that leading companies from around the world have been invited to participate in WAVES.

The second edition of CII NexGen Expo 2024 was inaugurated today at the Pune International Exhibition Center at Moshi. Arvind Goel, Chairman, of CII WR Taskforce on Future Mobility, and Chairman, of Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd., said that the auto industry currently is about 80 billion dollars in India with 15 billion dollars in exports. It is expected to grow more than three times to 250 billion dollars in the next few years. With the auto industry growing, employment will also grow. He added that as India plans to achieve net carbon zero by 2070, many companies have targets to achieve it much before that. A huge amount will be invested by companies to take India to net carbon zero. With the abundance of renewable energy, the industry will move more quickly in the EV space. The auto industry will have a major role to play in the quantum of growth and opportunities as India aims to be a developed country by 2047. 

Swati Salgaocar, Chairperson, CII Western Region 2024-25, said “Mobility is the backbone of economic life, connecting people to jobs, communities, and opportunities. Yet, urban mobility faces challenges like congestion, pollution, and uneven access. Future mobility must be sustainable, integrated, and automated. Trends like EVs, shared mobility, and autonomy are transforming cities globally. India is at a crucial stage of urbanization, and decision-makers must act now. CII Western Region is leading the way with the NexGen Mobility Show, driving the future of clean, efficient, and innovative transportation solutions.”

Rishi Kumar Bagla, Deputy Chairman, CII Western Region 2024-25, said that the auto industry has historically been a good indicator of how the economy is doing. The country’s automotive component sector has seen steady growth in exports over the past decade, driven by skill development, adherence to global standards, and government support with the Make in India initiative. 

India has a few automotive hubs, and the western region is the flag bearer of the Indian automotive industry. India ranks among the top auto component suppliers in the world. If we continue to grow by 7 to 8 percent till 2047, the requirement will be eight times the current consumption, and therefore the opportunities are huge. 

Akash Passey, Co-Chairman, CII WR Taskforce on Future Mobility & President, India, ZF Group, said that India is rapidly becoming a global automotive powerhouse. Our task force on mobility at CII is working on challenges and opportunities and developing strategies to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth. Technologies like ADAS and innovations will play a pivotal role. The future of mobility hinges on our ability to create a safe, sustainable, and technologically advanced automotive system. Therefore, new opportunities are coming in and a new dimension showing up in the coming years. India can position itself as a global leader in the global automobile industry. 

Rajnikant Behera, Co-Chair, of CII NexGen Mobility Show 2024, said that auto is a key driver in economic growth. We are also on the cusp of a significant transition of technology from ICE to EVs. We want the entire industry to come together and have a dialogue in one space, which is the main aim of this expo. 

Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, of JBM Group, said “When the norms are global, the opportunities are global. With the scale and size, we are looking to address. Indian companies can use this opportunity to grow multifold.”

Reji Mathai, Director, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), said that it is time to look ahead and address India-specific needs. Our focus can be summed up into two parts: one is net zero, and the other is the safety of the cars, two-wheelers, and pedestrians. At ARAI, we have been on this journey, not only developing a regulatory framework but also helping to develop capabilities. These steps can take the ecosystem forward to become more safe and sustainable.

PUNE: In a significant initiative for skill development in Indian hospitality undertaken by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), an 18-month Vocational Education and Training (VET) Professional Diploma program offered in collaboration with EHL Hospitality Business School of Switzerland and delivered at AISSMS, Pune. The program has now been running very successfully for the last two years with over 100 students on the verge of graduating and joining the industry.

This year, we plan to induct 100 students at our VET by EHL AISSMS Pune Centre and over 400+ students including our Chandigarh and Bangalore Centre. The duration of the program is 18 months out of which they are given a sound grounding of theory and practical in their area of specialization. The training at AISSMS is followed by an Advanced Certificate program and on-the-job training for 12 months at Select IHCL hotels.

Praveen Roy, Advisor, Confederation of Indian Industry said: “The industry is poised for a 15-20% growth in hiring within the tourism and hospitality sector in India. CII, with its strategic tie-up with Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) and Academic partnership with EHL Hospitality Business School, trains a large number of students with the help of EHL-certified trainers who are also department managers. This program is truly by the industry and for the industry and the students.”

Hospitality employers find the workforce being supplied below the industry’s expectations. There is a definite need in India for globally recognized vocational training that can create a pool of talented hospitality professionals. The VET by EHL program help bridge the skill gap and strengthen India’s position as the global hospitality workforce supplier. It will train the youth to world-class standards for careers in the hospitality industry, including hotels, airlines, cruise lines, and the catering and travel industry, not only in India but around the world.

Dr. Sonali Jadhav, Principal, AISSMS College of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Pune who is a veteran in Hospitality Education and has written over 25 research papers in National and International Journals said: “We have been running the VET by EHL Program for the last 2 years. The course content is very relevant to what is happening in the industry and the students, by the end of the course, are well prepared to join the industry and also excel in their field. PUNE: At a time when India is transitioning to newer technologies and fuels,  alternative mobility will present a huge opportunity for manufacturing. India also has the opportunity to be a global leader opined various experts at the CII NexGen Mobility Show – Expo and Summit organised by CII at Deccan College Ground in Pune from 15-16 December 2023.

The Expo was inaugurated in the presence of Sanjay G. Kolte IAS, Chief Executive Officer Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd, Mr. Arvind Goel, Chairman, CII WR Taskforce on Future Mobility & Chairman, Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd, Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Past Chairman, CII Western Region & Chairman & Managing Director, Pinnacle Industries Limited and Founder & Chairman EKA Mobility,  Mr. Kiran Acharya, Vice Chairman, CII Pune Zonal Council and Managing Director & Chief Financial Officer Sandvik Coromant India Ltd, Dr. Arup Basu Managing Director Greaves Cotton Ltd, Rajesh Kapoor Senior Director, CII Western Region, Mr. Rajnikant Behera Executive Director, RSB Transmissions (I) Ltd and Ms. Sulajja Firodia Motwani Founder and CEO Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions Ltd among others.

More than 100 exhibitors representing domestic and international brands are participating at the first CII NextGen Mobility Expo at Deccan. Slated to be one of India’s largest NexGen mobility shows in western India, the show is focussing on four broad areas including  ‘Electrifying Mobility’, ‘Clean Tech for Fuel of Future’, ‘Mobility and Vehicle Design’, and ‘Urban Mobility’ among others. The show has participation from leading companies as well as local state bodies.

Mr Arvind Goel, Chairman, CII WR Taskforce on Future Mobility & Chairman, Tata AutoComp Systems in his welcome address said that the auto industry constitutes more than 40 percent of the manufacturing sector. The major transition that is happening will bring huge opportunities for the industry. Localization and export of components will have far more importance for electric vehicles in the future.

Dr Sudhir Mehta, Past Chairman, of CII Western Region & Chairman & Managing Director, of Pinnacle Industries Limited, and Founder & Chairman of EKA Mobility said that this is the single important manufacturing opportunity in our country. This is also a chance to be a global leader. As we surge ahead with alternative fuels, over the next decade India will be the single largest EV market in the world outside China.  Alternative mobility will have a great impact. The numbers are mind-boggling and all the stakeholders need to come together, we have an opportunity not only to produce for India but also for every country.

Dr Arup Basu Managing Director of Greaves Cotton Ltd said that the conference captures four themes of the future. Increasing urbanization puts a different set of challenges on administration and that is a key determinant in terms of what mobility challenges we have. Talking about access to energy, he said there is a bigger social dimension as it marks a milestone of achievements for individuals and families. There is a big subject sitting beneath this in terms of Mass affluence, mass affordability, and mass ambitions and how do we fulfill these energy requirements with mobility being one of the key markers?

Sanjay G. Kolte IAS, Chief Executive Officer of Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd, said that we are embarking on a new journey for future mobility for Pune. As a smart city mission, we are trying to make mobility reliable, safer, smarter, affordable, and holistic. Taking about PMPML he said that currently 67 percent of our bus fleet plying in the city is on CNG and 23 percent on electric and only.10 percent on diesel which will be phased out in coming years. A good beginning has been made and this will go a long way in making transport comfortable, safe, reliable, and sustainable for commuters.

Mr Kiran Acharya, Vice Chairman, CII Pune Zonal Council and Managing Director & Chief Financial Officer Sandvik Coromant India Ltd,  in his concluding address of the inaugural session said that every technological evolution may come with some kind of disruption. This also.will make us think about sustainability.

Some of the state-of-the-art mobility solutions unveiled at the show include e-powertrain Products, e-drivetrain, Engine Cooling Solutions, Battery Thermal Management Systems, Electronic Solutions, and precision-crafted Suspensions tailored for future-ready vehicles. The show is one of India’s largest NexGen mobility shows in western India.
