PUNE: Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”) has announced significant progress in its mission to protect customers in Maharashtra and Goa from rising online fraud. As part of the nationwide rollout of its AI-powered fraud detection system, Airtel has successfully safeguarded more than 2 lakh customers across the states of Maharashtra and Goa, within just 36 days of launching its advanced fraud detection system.

Automatically enabled for all Airtel mobile and broadband customers, the advanced system scans and filters links across SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, email, and other browsers. It leverages real-time threat intelligence to examine over 1 billion URLs daily and blocks access to harmful sites in under 100 milliseconds.

For instance, if a resident in Pune receives a suspicious message that reads: “Your package is delayed. Track it here: http://www.tracky0urparcell.com”. And if the unsuspecting resident then clicks on the link, Airtel’s system also clicks into gear. It instantly scans the link and if flagged as suspicious, it blocks access. The user is redirected to a warning message that reads: “Blocked! Airtel found this site dangerous!” All this instantaneously. This real-time interception prevents users from falling victim to all kinds of fraud.

Commenting on the initiative, George Mathen, CEO – Maharashtra and Goa, Bharti Airtel, said, “At Airtel, our commitment lies in protecting customers from all varieties of fraud. By merging our network with an AI-based fraud detection solution, we are making certain that our customers are defended against all emerging threats without requiring any effort on their part. We believe it is imperative to take steps today to secure the digital future, and we are proud to be pioneers in this field by providing a comprehensive and safer network for our customers in Maharashtra and Goa.”

With Maharashtra and Goa ranked as one of India’s most digitally advanced states, the threat of online fraud has grown in both its urban and rural regions. Fraudsters increasingly target users through phishing links, fake deliveries, and spurious banking alerts. Cities like Satara, Nashik, Amravati, Ahilyanagar, Chandrapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Akola — as well as remote towns like Jamgaon, Ghoti, Sultanpur, Tippeshwar, among others— have seen a sharp rise in such fraudulent attempts. Airtel’s solution acts as a statewide digital shield, protecting families, senior citizens, homemakers, students, and first-time smartphone users alike.

The AI-driven platform delivers fraud warnings in the user’s preferred language, including Marathi, making it highly effective for the state’s diverse population. This multilingual support is especially impactful in districts with low digital literacy or where English is not widely used.

The solution operates silently in the background, requires no installation, and is offered free of cost. Maharashtra and Goa at the forefront of digital adoption — from online banking to government e-services — and Airtel’s initiative plays a critical role in creating a safer digital ecosystem across the state. Whether it’s a working professional in Satara, a homemaker in Nashik, a tourist in Goa, or a student in Ahilyanagar, Airtel helps make every digital interaction safer.

TCS’ 2025 Cybersecurity Outlook finds that organizations that prepare for evolving cyber threats can build the necessary resilience to operate in an increasingly complex threat landscape

MUMBAI: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, has announced its 2025 Cybersecurity Outlook, a list of technology trends and focus areas curated by TCS experts. Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), cloud security, and supply chain resilience will be key for organizations to effectively navigate the threat landscape in the coming year.

As next-gen technologies continue to gain momentum across industries, they give rise to new and complex threats. Experts and leaders at TCS have identified seven focus areas that will influence cybersecurity and help organizations prioritize their security investments to prepare for increasing cyberattacks.

Ganesa Subramanian Vaikuntam, Global Head of Cybersecurity at TCS, said, “With geopolitical shifts and evolving technology, global cybersecurity is undergoing a major transformation. GenAI is enhancing operational efficiencies, but organizations must equip themselves to counteract cyber threats. Organizations must harness these advancements and implement GenAI-powered threat detection and response systems to stay ahead of the curve. In this era of evolving technologies, a robust and proactive cyber resilience strategy is not just an option, but a necessity for enterprises to effectively navigate and mitigate unforeseen cyber incidents.”

In the face of emerging cyber threats, enterprises are looking for ways to leverage GenAI to secure their businesses, according to TCS’ 2025 Cybersecurity Outlook. The cybersecurity trends to look out for in 2025 are:

1. Influence of GenAI in cybersecurity on the rise

GenAI is transforming organizational operations but is also being exploited by cybercriminals for advanced attacks like deepfakes, phishing, data manipulation, and new malware. In response, organizations must fight fire with fire by deploying GenAI-powered threat detection and response systems.

2. Cloud security remains crucial

As cloud computing adoption continues to accelerate, organizations need to implement strong security protocols like encryption, access controls, and continuous monitoring. Maintaining proper cloud configurations is crucial to prevent unauthorized access and breaches, and those moving to multi-cloud or hybrid environments will need to adapt their security measures accordingly.

3. Elastic supply chains will be relevant for operational integrity

In 2025, organizations will need flexible, resilient supply chains due to changing geopolitics and partner ecosystems. Leaders must develop proactive strategies to adjust their supply networks while protecting sensitive data and maintaining regulatory compliance. Enhancing supply chain resilience will be increasingly vital for preserving operational integrity in the face of uncertainty.

4. Emerging business models will underscore the need to be secure by design

At a time when digital technologies, IoT capabilities, and advanced connectivity are driving new business models in EV charging, DERMS, autonomous vehicles, and other connected factories, organizations must secure their value chains to ensure these businesses are safe by design. By 2025, the growth of IoT devices will require stronger device hardening, secure communication channels, and ongoing vulnerability assessments to maintain momentum in business growth.

5. Cybersecurity Mesh Architecture will pave the way for zero-trust security

Organizations are moving from traditional security models to zero-trust architecture, which requires continuous authentication and limited access to minimize threats. By 2026, most large enterprises will adopt zero-trust methods, consolidating security tools to be more efficient. To adapt, organizations must use integrated platforms for orchestrating and automating cybersecurity while working towards Cybersecurity Mesh Architecture (CSMA) for dynamic, collaborative, and secure environments.

6. CSOs will adopt an ‘automation-first’ approach to Managed Detection and Response

Modern Managed Detection and Response (MDR) combines Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Security Operation Centers (SOCs), Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR), Extended Detection and Response (XDR), threat hunting, threat intelligence, and various attack simulations. These components must integrate seamlessly under an “automation-first” approach for strong cyber defense against new technologies like Gen AI, quantum computing, and 5G expansion. By 2025, organizations are likely to seek more industry-specific and integrated cyber-physical security solutions.

7. Back to basics: Cyber resilience will be essential for business security

Now more than ever, a robust cyber resilience strategy is crucial for organizations to handle unexpected cyber incidents and will require taking a fresh look at the basics: regular backups, detailed incident response plans, and business continuity measures. Something as simple as regular drills can enhance organizational preparedness and response capabilities. Promoting a culture of resilience will help minimize downtime and disruptions from cyberattacks.

A leader in cybersecurity globally, TCS’ offerings range from consulting, and implementation, to managed security services across – detection and response, identity and access management, attack surface management, governance, risk and compliance, data privacy and protection, digital forensics and incident response, cloud security, and cyber-physical security.
High-Tech industry contributes 31% of the Mumbai and Pune GCC talent headcount

MUMBAI: TeamLease Digital, a leading tech staffing and learning solutions provider, announced the state-wise distribution of Global Capability Centers (GCCs) across India for FY25. The data, based on TeamLease Digital’s findings, reveals key insights into the regional concentration of GCCs and the industries driving their growth.

As per the findings, the Mumbai/Pune region accounts for 31% of TeamLease Digital’s GCC partnerships. The high-tech and automotive sectors are the most significant in this region, with the high-tech industry making up 33% and the automotive sector contributing 22% of the headcount. Pune, in particular, is emerging as a driver in the Automotive sector. This region is also notable for its involvement in the capital markets, a sector that is only served by Mumbai/Pune and Delhi NCR, highlighting critical skills in data mining, predictive analytics, and big data frameworks.

The findings also showed Bengaluru as a prominent hub for GCCs, hosting 36% of TeamLease Digital’s total client base. This city is notably characterized by its dominance in the Hi-Tech industry, which comprises 37% of the talent concentration. Professional Services, which includes BFSI and Consulting companies, follows with 21% of the headcount. The Manufacturing sector is also emerging as a significant player, contributing 10% to the total headcount, with automotive and electronics manufacturing leading this growth. High-tech is an industry focused on the leveraging of modern technologies across sectors like Electronics, Healthcare, E-Commerce, Semiconductors, EVs, Aviation & Defence, and ER&D.

The findings also showed Hyderabad accounts for 14% of TeamLease Digital’s client base for the first two-quarters of FY25. The city excels in the High-Tech industry, which contributes 45% to the GCC headcount. Hyderabad’s GCCs are at the cutting edge of digital transformation, leveraging advancements in Cloud computing, AI, cybersecurity, blockchain, and Data Analytics to enhance global operations. The focus on automation and emerging technologies like robotics and blockchain underlines Hyderabad’s role as a leader in tech innovation.

Further, Delhi-NCR contributes 22% to the overall GCC headcount, with Software & Platform and High Tech each representing 20% of the headcount. This region is unique in its substantial contribution to the Oil & Gas industry, comprising 6.5% of the GCC headcount. Key skills in demand include AWS, Azure, Data Modelling, and IoT platforms, reflecting the sector’s emphasis on advanced digital solutions.

Elaborating on the findings Neeti Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, of TeamLease Digital said, “Over the past few years, Global Capability Centres (GCCs) have emerged as powerhouses of innovation and job creation across industries, especially in Mumbai and Pune where High-Tech and Automotive industries are thriving the most. As GCCs continue to evolve, we are increasingly partnering with them across Mumbai/Pune and other locations to address their demand for niche skills, while also co-creating new job functions.

Sectors like Healthcare, BFSI, and Retail have shown remarkable growth. Between 2021 and 2023, these sectors recorded cumulative compound annual growth rates (CAGR) exceeding 30%. This growth is particularly notable, given that during the same period, the broader IT industry was experiencing a downturn. In contrast, the GCC Software & Internet sector maintained steady progress and is projected to reach a CAGR of 6.2% by 2027. Even more promising is the Retail & E-commerce GCC sector, which is expected to see the strongest growth at 8.4% CAGR, followed closely by Healthcare at 7.5%.

These upward trends signal a dynamic shift in the global workforce, and TeamLease Digital is well-poised to facilitate this growth by connecting GCCs with the best-suited tech staffing + learning solutions that’ll ensure the organization’s readiness to tackle competitive yet niche growth opportunities presented by emerging technologies or newer markets.”

PUNE: Trend Micro, a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, has successfully concluded the Pune segment of its Risk to Resilience World Tour in India. The event had 60 attendees from 35 organizations, marking a significant milestone in a tour spanning seven Indian cities. This tour follows last year’s extensive global engagement across 60 countries, including visits to five major Indian cities.

Under the theme “Innovation Meets Adrenaline,” the event facilitated discussions on modern cyber resilience, the integration of Extended Detection and Response (XDR) with Attack Surface Risk Management (ASRM), and effective strategies for cloud risk mitigation.

Sharda Tickoo, Country Manager for India & SAARC at Trend Micro, highlighted the strategic importance of Pune for Trend Micro, by saying “Our remarkable progress in this region underscores Trend Micro’s dedication to growth, technological innovation, and local engagement. As global security trends emerge here, local businesses seek not only comprehensive IT visibility but also technology consolidation, seamless integration with other cybersecurity products, fewer false positives, and enhanced cybersecurity resilience. Our ASRM empowers these enterprises with superior visibility, proactive risk management, and fortified security postures. Leading IT and financial companies in this market trust our Gen AI-powered Trend Vision One platform, which scales seamlessly across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments, offering comprehensive threat visibility and actionable insights.”

The event also included a panel discussion featuring Manikrao Patil, Group CISO at Kirloskar Group, and Solkar Nagaraj, CISO at Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Co. Ltd. on the theme “Winning Strategies for Cyber Consolidation & Communication” moderated by Kunal Kimatkar, Regional Head, West – Enterprise Business at Trend Micro. Talking about Trend Micro’s R2R event, Manikrao Patil emphasized the importance of CISOs collaborating to counteract malicious actors, as this shared knowledge enhances our defense strategies. Solkar Nagaraj stressed the necessity and critical role of IT security consolidation in a high-risk environment while Manikrao further added on how it aids in aligning business requirements with emerging threats. The panelists concurred that consolidation strikes a balance between security and operational efficiency. On the pros and cons of generative AI, the speakers concluded that, regardless of the sector, the use of generative AI must be approached with well-defined boundaries. Regarding talent retention, Manikrao suggested that developing clear career progression plans provides valuable opportunities to retain skilled personnel, while Solkar opined that a willingness to learn is equally essential.

A recent Trend Micro report places India as the fifth most targeted nation globally for ransomware attacks, with the Manufacturing, Government, and Banking sectors being the most affected by malware. In response to the increasing complexity of cyberattacks, especially with the rise of Generative AI, Trend Micro has extended its Risk to Resilience World Tour to seven Indian cities this year. This expansion aims to share advanced strategies for enhancing organizational resilience and building enduring partnerships.

Trend Micro also recently announced a partnership with NVIDIA to develop AI-powered cybersecurity tools for data centers.

Promote cybersecurity awareness among internet users

BENGALURU: In a joint effort to promote online safety, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Government of India, and Koo join hands to raise awareness (#CyberSecurityAwareness) about cybersecurity attacks, frauds, and crimes on the occasion of Safer Internet Day(#SaferInternetDay) observed every year on the first Tuesday in February 2023. The collaboration efforts will help to sensitize internet users about safe online practices through posting infographics, videos, and awareness campaigns on the @KooPolicy, @KooForGood, and @IndianCERT official social media handle.

As the use of social media continues to skyrocket, it is essential for social media intermediaries like Koo to take responsibility and ensure a safer online experience for their users. In 2022, India saw over 13 lakh cyberattack incidents, making cybersecurity a key concern of all sectors.

Koo, a user-friendly and transparent micro-blogging platform, has a strong commitment to user safety online. The company has previously joined forces with CERT-In during the National Cyber Security Awareness Month in October 2022 (#NCSAM2022) to educate and train over 4,000 young people from colleges across India on cyber security best practices.

Dr. Sanjay Bahl, Director General, CERT-In, said, “Cybersecurity is one of the three focus areas of the Digital Economy Working Group during India’s G20 Presidency, and as part of the Presidency, the Hon’ble Minister for Electronics & Information Technology, Communications, and Railways, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, has launched the “Stay Safe Online” campaign. With the exponential increase in the number of internet users in India, it is crucial to raise awareness regarding cyber hygiene among citizens and for them to stay safe in the online world. In this journey of inclusiveness and the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, Koo is a natural partner to reach out to citizens in their local language for this awareness.”

Aprameya Radhakrishna, Co-founder & CEO of Koo, said, “At Koo, we understand the importance of creating a safe and secure online space for our users to express themselves freely. Our unwavering commitment to providing a safer internet experience is evident in our range of safety features, including a verification process, a reporting and blocking feature, deep technologies and teams dedicated to moderating content, and data protection through encryption. We have best-in-class processes to ensure the community’s safety.
