The JV is targeting cumulative revenues in excess of ₹2,000 Cr. by 2031

CHENNAI: TVS Supply Chain Solutions (TVS SCS) (NSE: TVSSCS, BSE: 543965), a leading global supply chain solutions provider and one of India’s largest and fastest-growing integrated supply chain companies, today announced the formation of a joint venture with ALA Group, an Italy-based aerospace and defence supply-chain integrator, to address opportunities in India’s fast-growing aerospace and defence sectors. TVS SCS will hold a 51% stake in the JV, while ALA will own the remaining 49%. The JV is expected to emerge as a significant growth driver for TVS SCS in India, with cumulative revenues projected to exceed ₹2,000 Cr by 2031.

Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding earlier this year, TVS SCS and ALA Group witnessed strong engagement and active interest from multiple industry participants across the aerospace and defence ecosystem. This momentum accelerated the decision to formalise the partnership through a dedicated joint venture platform.

Aerospace and defence supply-chain solutions globally are characterised by specialised procurement, inventory management, and mission-critical fulfilment capabilities, making them structurally higher-margin businesses with strong returns on capital employed (RoCE). Quality companies in this sector have consistently delivered strong profitability metrics, with PBT margins in the range of 8-9%, reflective of this high-value segment.

The JV will initially focus on opportunities in India, while TVS SCS and ALA will continue to evaluate opportunities to support aerospace and defence supply-chain requirements across select international markets over time.

R. Dinesh, Executive Chairman, TVS Supply Chain Solutions, said, “This joint venture marks our entry into the high-growth and globally significant aerospace and defence supply chain market. India is emerging as one of the most important growth engines for the global aerospace and defence industry, driven by localisation initiatives, strategic investments, and expanding international collaborations between India and key global aerospace and defence ecosystems.

He further added, “ALA brings deep domain expertise, strong global customer relationships and proven capabilities in specialised aerospace and defence supply chain solutions, which complement TVS SCS’ extensive network, digital capabilities and execution strength. Together, we are building a scalable and future-ready platform for global aerospace and defence companies to serve Indian requirements for both the aerospace and defence sectors.”

Vittorio Genna, Vice President and Co-Founder, ALA Group, added, “India is one of the world’s fastest-growing aerospace and defence markets, driven by increasing defence modernisation programmes and expanding global partnerships. We have strong customer relationships across the aerospace sector, and many global companies in this sector are actively evaluating and expanding their presence in India, creating significant opportunities for specialised supply chain services.

Through this partnership with TVS SCS, we will be well-positioned to support the evolving requirements of our global customers in India. In TVS SCS, we have found a partner with deep market understanding, a strong domestic network, proven execution capabilities, and a trusted brand. Their strong operational and technology-led execution capabilities, combined with extensive supply chain infrastructure, make them an ideal partner to build a scalable and differentiated aerospace and defence logistics platform.”

Says Vikas Chadha, Global Chief Executive Officer, TVS Supply Chain Solutions, “The industry is characterised by stringent certification, compliance and traceability requirements, creating a need for specialised supply chain capabilities. Our strong presence in India, extensive supply chain infrastructure, and experience in working with complex customer and regulatory ecosystems, together with ALA’s global aerospace and defence expertise, create a compelling platform to help customers navigate these complexities more efficiently. Given the specialised and high-value nature of this business, we expect the venture to become profitable within its first twelve months of operations and be a meaningful contributor to our growth and profitability in India.”

Mauro Romano, CEO of ALA MENA, said, “Our experience across global aerospace and defence programmes has demonstrated the growing importance of integrated procurement and inventory management solutions. India represents a strategically important market for long-term growth, and this partnership provides a strong platform to support customers with localised and globally integrated supply chain solutions.”

The joint venture will specialise in end-to-end integrated supply chain solutions, including sourcing and supply of aerospace and defence components, kitting and sub-assembly operations, as well as consolidation, imports, warehousing, and delivery. India’s defence logistics market is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 8.6%.

Building on proven Defence and Utilities Credentials

TVS SCS brings deep supply chain experience from its long-standing Defence and Utility sector operations in Europe, and accounts for over 30% of the company’s Europe business. The company has been supporting the UK Ministry of Defence and leading defence prime contractors for several years, managing approximately 250,000 NATO Stock Numbers (NSNs) and fulfilling around 1 million defence demands annually through a global supplier base of over 1,000 vendors. Its defence operations span land, sea, and air platforms and are governed by stringent quality, security, and compliance standards, supported by digitally enabled logistics systems that enhance visibility, resilience, and operational readiness. TVS SCS also works closely with defence prime contractors on multi-year programmes, reinforcing its credentials as a trusted global defence logistics partner.

ALA Group, on the other hand, brings more than 35 years of experience as a specialised aerospace and defence supply-chain integrator, supporting leading OEMs, MROs, and defence programmes across Europe, North America, and selected international markets. Headquartered in Italy, ALA operates a global network of commercial offices and state-of-the-art logistics and kitting facilities, supporting major global aerospace and defence platforms and programmes. The various players in this sector are Airbus, Boeing, Dassault Aviation, Safran Group, Rolls-Royce, Collins Aerospace, and Thales Group, among others. Many of these global aerospace and defence companies are also expanding their partnerships and joint ventures with Indian companies as part of their long-term localisation and manufacturing strategies in India.

The ALA Group supports a wide range of aerospace and defence platforms across air, land, and naval domains, providing certified spare-parts distribution, inventory optimisation, kitting, Direct Line Feed, consignment stock, and defence-grade logistics engineering services. ALA’s operations are governed by stringent quality, security, compliance standards, and operational readiness. This proven capability positions ALA as a trusted partner for complex, regulated aerospace and defence supply chains, enabling scalable and compliant solutions across multiple geographies. ALA is also at the forefront of technology, investing heavily in cybersecurity and maintaining exceptionally high-level security infrastructure. It is the only company in the Aerospace & Defence sector to track and certify products with legally binding value using patented IAC (Instant Automatic Certification) technology worldwide.

A national platform designed to identify and support high-potential youth from disadvantaged backgrounds across STEM, innovation, arts, and defence

MUMBAI: The Godrej Foundation, an independent philanthropic trust, today announced the launch of Tomorrow Makers, a national platform designed to identify and support high-potential students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Tomorrow Makers is built on the belief that while talent is widely distributed across India, access to opportunity is not. The platform will identify high-potential students – from Classes 6-12 as well as graduates – and connect them to organisations, educators, mentors, competitions, and peer communities that can help them realise their potential.

Through programmes run by eight partner organisations, Tomorrow Makers offers four different pathways – STEM, Invention and Making, Arts and Defence –for high-potential students from different age groups.

Omar Momin, Chief Executive Officer, Godrej Foundation, said, “India is home to one of the world’s largest school-going populations, yet access to structured mentorship, advanced learning opportunities, and talent acceleration ecosystems remains uneven, particularly for students from underserved communities. Through Tomorrow Makers, we aim to help bridge this gap by building pathways that identify and nurture high-potential young people from across regions and socio-economic backgrounds. Through this platform, we hope to build a pipeline of future innovators, researchers, artists, entrepreneurs, soldiers, and public leaders whose success can create multiplier effects by transforming families, strengthening communities, and contributing to India’s long-term leadership and progress.”

For those in Class 10-12 with a strong aptitude in science and mathematics, and who aspire to careers in engineering, medicine or technology, Tomorrow Makers has partnered with organisations Dakshana and Avanti Fellows, who provide free coaching for JEE and NEET preparation. For younger students in Class 6-7, organisations like Genwise and MakerGhat offer summer camps and workshops for advanced learning in robotics, computing, and higher mathematics, as well as opportunities to compete in national and global robotics competitions.

In the arts pathway, Tomorrow Makers has partnered with Slam Out Loud, which provides mentorship, skill development, and performance opportunities for children with an aptitude for music, drama, writing, and other forms of creative expression.

Commenting on the launch, Jigyasa Labroo, founder of Slam Out Loud, said, “When we think of who the cultural curators of India are, we don’t think of what most of our country looks and lives like. There is no dearth of artistic talent in India, but the arts – particularly performing arts – are not an easy field to establish oneself or build a career in. Through our partnership with Tomorrow Makers, we have created a programme for gifted young artists from less privileged backgrounds across India to get the right kind of training, mentorship, and exposure. We’re excited to build the next generation of creative leaders and have their voices represent our country’s stories!“

For graduates, Tomorrow Makers supports two pathways: professional theatre training through Drama School Mumbai, and defence exam preparation through Delta Squad Foundation and Yuvatejas. Need-based scholarships are available for eligible candidates.

Students across India can apply through the website or WhatsApp bot and undergo assessments to identify potential in sciences, invention, arts, and endurance. Successful candidates will be placed in specialised programmes run by Godrej Foundation’s non-profit partners. Tomorrow Makers is part of the Godrej Foundation’s broader mission to promote economic growth, inclusion, innovation, and talent development in India

INDIA: Shield AI, the deep-tech company building state-of-the-art autonomy software products and aircraft, today announced the successful demonstration of key mission-autonomous capabilities using Hivemind as part of a demo series for the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD). These demonstrations serve as a step towards MoD validation, enabling them to formally approve Hivemind adoption on V-BATs, currently under consideration for acquisition to equip the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force.

This demonstration was conducted from 12th Aug to 14th Aug 2025 in Himachal Pradesh using Shield AI’s Nova 2 quadcopter, equipped with Hivemind, Shield AI’s autonomy software. Over three days of hands-on flight training and system presentations to the Indian Special Forces (from both the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force), Hivemind demonstrated fully autonomous as well as AI-assisted, human-piloted operation in GPS- and communication-denied environments.

“Autonomy will be a decisive factor in the future of defence, and India has made it clear that it intends to lead,” said Sarjan Shah, Managing Director – India, Shield AI.

“With Hivemind, Shield AI is delivering proven, mission-ready autonomy that performs in the most demanding operational environments. These demonstrations represent a critical step forward in supporting India’s efforts to rapidly adopt next-generation capabilities that strengthen national security and support indigenous defence innovation,” added Shah.

Hivemind is Shield AI’s autonomy software that empowers unmanned systems to perform complex missions in GPS- and communications-contested environments. Designed for modular integration and multi-platform deployment, Hivemind enables partners and customers to rapidly build, test, and field mission autonomy on a variety of platforms, including V-BAT, Shield AI’s Group 3 unmanned aerial system (UAS).

Nova 2 is a next-generation quadcopter designed to address 3D environments, providing unmatched autonomy for indoor (GNSS-denied) and confined-space operations. Lessons from the integration of Hivemind onto Nova quadcopters have informed the deployment of Hivemind onto larger platforms, such as F-16, MQ-20 Avenger, and V-BAT.

The series serves as a successful demonstration that Hivemind can indeed be integrated and can perform complex mission-autonomous behaviors on a variety of platforms. This achievement reinforces Shield AI’s role in strengthening India’s defence capabilities, while also expanding the company’s ongoing presence in the region. In November 2024, Shield AI announced a strategic partnership with JSW Defence Pvt. Ltd. to indigenize and begin manufacturing V-BATs in India, marking a significant commitment to boosting India’s defence capabilities.

INDIA: NIBE Limited, a pioneering name in manufacturing critical systems for the defense sector, proudly launched the OPX-Revilator, a state-of-the-art handheld explosive detection and identification device. Developed through DRDO Transfer of Technology to NIBE, the device was officially unveiled by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis during the inauguration of NIBE’s Missiles and Precision Machining Complex in Pune.

The OPX-Revilator is an embedded controller-based device designed for pre and post-blast analysis. It plays a critical role in identifying explosives in pure form, compositions, and even highly contaminated samples, making it an indispensable tool for law enforcement and security agencies.

The device operates on the principle of optical image processing, analyzing images of the reaction mixture formed between the explosive and a reagent. By simply collecting a sample—either directly or via swabbing—and placing it in the test tray, the device delivers accurate results with minimal human intervention. The OPX-Revilator can detect and identify over 20 types of explosives, including those commonly used by anti-social elements.

Commenting on the launch, Ganesh Ramesh Nibe, Founder and Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of NIBE Limited said, “The OPX-Revilator represents a major step forward in enhancing security and threat detection capabilities. Our goal is to provide security forces with cutting-edge technology that ensures swift and accurate identification of explosives, even in the most challenging conditions. This innovation reaffirms our dedication to public safety and national security, enabling proactive threat mitigation.” He also extended his gratitude to Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis for his unwavering support in strengthening security initiatives and DRDO for facilitating the technology transfer.

Furthermore, the device efficiently categorizes different classes of explosives, such as Nitramines, Nitroaromatics, Nitrate Esters, and Inorganic Nitrates. Designed for ease of use, it features a lightweight build, requires minimal operational expertise, and provides real-time identification of explosives on its LCD screen. The built-in user-friendly algorithm guides operators at every step, ensuring a seamless and reliable detection process.

NIBE Limited remains committed to advancing technology-driven security solutions, and the OPX-Revilator is a testament to its dedication to innovation, safety, and national security.

PUNE: Participants from more than 20 countries are likely to attend a three-day international exhibition that will showcase Material Engineering, Equipment, and Technology for Defence and Transport(MET) besides Alternate Energy and Heat Treatment Synergies(HTS), beginning on September 6 next at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai.

Disclosing this here, I P Wadhwa, Managing Director Tafcon, organizer of ASM International India Chapter said that the MET & HTS 2024 is the most comprehensive business platform, supported and participated by several Indian Government Ministries and state Governments, bringing together PSUs, Industry Experts, leading Corporates, SMEs and Start-Ups besides varied Industry Associations from India and overseas.

Held biennially, the 3-day high-level conference will feature a brain-storming session where a distinguished panel of speakers from industry leaders, academia, and research personnel from India and abroad will deliberate on Advanced and Smart Materials and their processes and the latest advancements in Heat treatment technologies.

On top of it, there will be a special session in partnership with SIDM (Society of Defence Manufacturers) where thought leaders and key policy-makers across the armed forces, Government, and Private Organizations including R&D would detail and collaborate on reliable materials and technologies required to push the “Make in India” capability further.

Apart from 600 delegates from more than 15 countries, the event is expected to witness the presentation of 150 technical papers, 20,000 footfalls, and about 400 stalls. It will also have a dedicated Start-Up Pavilion and German Pavilion by VDMA.

Under the National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP), infrastructure projects worth close to 1.4 trillion US dollars are likely to be completed by 2024-25 as India’s transportation and logistics sectors are poised to grow at a compounded rate of 4.5 percent in the next decade.

As for Alternate Energy, India, the US, Brazil, and China are in consultation to form a Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) to explore cooperation opportunities, with India aiming to pump in INR 8 lakh crore in green hydrogen which will replace 25 percent of ‘grey’ hydrogen by 2030.

Several government organizations namely DRDO, CSIR, Indian Railways, NMDC, and Defence PSUs among others are likely to participate. As for the large corporates, mention may be made of the Tatas, Mahindra & Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro, JSW, Reliance Industries, Hindalco, Bharat Forge, and Suzlon Energy among others.

Elaborating on the significance of the event, I P W#adhwa pointed out that advancements in materials are integral to the future of manufacturing and hold the key to shaping the way products are designed and developed in powerfully unique manners – lighter, stronger, and more energy efficient.

PUNE: Several policy initiatives undertaken by the Government in the past few years to encourage indigenous design, development, and manufacture of defence equipment, to promote self-reliance in defence manufacturing & technology along with the rise of future smart technologies present MSMEs and Start-ups with huge opportunities opined various experts at the MSME conclave held in Pune. Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in association with the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, Govt of India organized a Defence MSME Conclave under the MoD Scheme for Promotion Of MSMEs in Defence on Friday, at Ammunition Factory, Khadki, MIL, Pune. The half-day program brought all relevant stakeholders together on a common platform to develop Defence MSMEs / Start-ups Industry which in turn could strengthen India’s indigenous defence production and defense exports.

The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Surendra Prasad Yadav, Joint Secretary (Land Systems), DDP, MoD, Government of India. Mr. Neelesh Tungar, Co-Chair FICCI Homeland Security Committee & COO, Bharat Forge Limited gave the welcome remarks followed by a special address by SK Rout, Director Operations, Munitions India Ltd, Mr. MK Gupta, CMD, Star Wire (India) Ltd, Partha Roy Chowdhary, Commercial Lead India, Lockheed Martin India Private Limited. Anil Kulkarni, VP and Head of Supply Chain Management at L&T Defence will deliver the vote of thanks. Mr. Praveen Kumar, DoG DOMW DOP Ministry of Defence also participated in the deliberations.

Mr. Surendra Prasad Yadav, Joint Secretary (Land Systems), DDP, MoD, Government of India, said that the pandemic had resulted in disruption in the supply chain in the defence industry too but the industry demonstrated a great level of agility. Self-reliance in defence is non-negotiable. Durable national security requires credible defence capabilities, development of infrastructure, strategic technology management, and establishment of a self-reliant defence industry at the forefront of government policy. After the clarion call by the Hon. Prime Minister on ‘Armanirbhar Bharat ‘ the country has aggressively moved in this direction of being self-reliant and a global supplier. Product-linked Incentive schemes have been launched by the Government to increase production in the country. This offers a great opportunity for MSMEs

In his welcome address inaugural address will include experts from the field including welcome remarks by Mr. Neelesh Tungar, Co-Chair FICCI Homeland Security Committee & COO said that indigenous defence and a vibrant defence ecosystem would require existing MSMEs to scale up and diversify the requirements in terms of quality, capacity, skillsets, and manufacturing capabilities. Large-scale system integrators like defence PSUs, and the private sector companies for OEMs are critical in terms of hand-holding and also looking at how we develop the whole ecosystem in our country.

SK Rout, Director of Operations, Munitions India Ltd, said that a number of conclaves have been conducted over the last year and this is the fifth such conclave organized at Ammunition Factory, Khadki. MSMEs have a huge role to play in the growth process. To succeed together we have to become cost competitive with on-time deliveries and the topmost priority being quality. We have ensured timely payments for the sustenance of business as well as technical support for our suppliers.

Mr MK Gupta, CMD, Star Wire (India) Ltd, said that manufacturing defence products require a variety of raw materials out of which certain materials are critical and strategic in nature. In order to achieve substantive self-reliance in defense manufacturing there is a need to reduce dependence on imports of these materials and to encourage domestic manufacturers through policy and procedural interventions.

Partha Roy Chowdhary, Commercial Lead India, Lockheed Martin India Private Limited. said that MSME and OEM relationship is critical. Referring to the restrictions on the import of critical materials in most countries, he said that we need to create demand and look at the supply side. Defence industry needs to have a secondary source like automobiles to supply these items and needs to certify the production. Innovation, quality, value chain, and holding of OEMs must be our focus.

Anil Kulkarni, VP, and Head of Supply Chain Management L&T Defence delivered the vote of thanks. He said that continuous efforts by the Government and all stakeholders are helping move us towards our goal of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ by developing a capable supply chain which will also help us become an export powerhouse.

The conclave deliberated on various crucial topics including the Indigenisation of Critical Materials for Defence, Handholding of the SME sector to achieve indigenization of critical components, Prospects for Start-Ups, etc.
