<p><strong>INDIA: </strong>ZF Friedrichshafen AG and the BMW Group have signed a long-term supply agreement in the field of passenger car drive systems. The core of the agreement is the supply and continued development of the proven 8-speed automatic transmission (8HP). The contract, worth several billion euros, runs until the late 2030s. This creates a solid foundation for open-technology and low-emission mobility of the future for both companies.</p>



<p>“<em>Together with BMW, we are sending a strong signal for innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in an industry undergoing dynamic change,</em>” says <strong>Mathias Miedreich, CEO of ZF.</strong> “<em>This agreement highlights the strategic importance of our 8-speed automatic transmission as a key technology for the transformation of drive systems</em>.”</p>



<p>As part of the partnership, the 8HP transmission kit will be continuously developed. The aim is to provide customers with the most powerful and efficient transmission that meets the requirements of future drive concepts.</p>

<p><strong>CHENNAI: </strong>Adani Cement, comprising Ambuja Cements and ACC, the cement and building material companies of the diversified Adani Portfolio, has played a pivotal role in the construction of the World’s Highest Railway Arch Bridge at Chenab, Jammu &amp; Kashmir &#8211; a landmark of India’s infrastructure ambition.</p>



<p>Adani Cement was the lead cement supplier in the project with ~65,000 metric tonnes, making it a key contributor to the structural backbone of the bridge. The cement supplied was Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) 43 Grade, known for its high strength, durability, and consistent quality, making it ideal for complex and large-scale infrastructure exposed to extreme climatic and geological conditions.</p>

<p><strong>NEW DELHI: </strong>Lumax Auto Technologies Limited (“LATL”), a leading Tier-1 automotive systems and components supplier, has signed an agreement to acquire the remaining 25% stake in IAC International Automotive India Private Limited (“IAC India”) from the International Automotive Components Group (“IAC Group”). IAC Group will continue to support IAC India through a technology support agreement.</p>



<p>IAC India is a well-established Tier-1 plastic interior systems and components supplier to key automotive OEMs in India, including Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Volkswagen, Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles, among others. IAC India is a leader in the vehicle interior space and the sole supplier of integrated cockpits and door panels for the recently launched BEV model from Mahindra – BE6 &amp; XEV 9e. It also has a strong and well-established engineering centre providing advanced design and engineering services to customers in India and overseas, which provides it a competitive advantage.</p>

<p>IAC India has five manufacturing plants across the country, including two in Chakan, Pune, and one each in Manesar, Nashik, and Bangalore. It also has an in-house state-of-the-art Engineering centre in Pune with key capabilities in Product Designing and Engineering, Dimensional Engineering, Product Development, Program Management, and Tooling development. The Engineering centre has a team of 330 engineers and designers with Global experience,e catering to all tool development requirements from customers as well as from its global sister concerns.</p>



<p>The closure of the transaction is subject to completion of customary conditions precedent and is expected by 31 May 2025. Lumax had earlier acquired a 75% stake in IAC India in March 2023. Post the closure of the above acquisition, IAC India will become a Wholly Owned Subsidiary of LATL. By legal and regulatory requirements, LATL will explore the possibility of merging IAC India with Lumax to unlock further synergies between the two companies.</p>



<p>KPMG Corporate Finance acted as the exclusive financial advisor for the transaction. Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas acted as legal advisors to LATL.</p>

<p><strong>INDIA:</strong> UBS India hosted its first-ever in-office campus hackathon, inviting young talent from across the country to solve real-world challenges through technology and innovation.</p>



<p>Over 5,000 students from leading academic institutions across India participated in a preliminary coding assessment. Of these, 129 students were shortlisted from 17 campuses, grouped into 22 teams, and invited to UBS’s offices in Mumbai and Pune for a 24-hour non-stop challenge.</p>



<p>Participants tackled live problem statements focused on social impact, aligned with UBS India’s purpose of reimagining the power of investing to create a better world. The key themes included:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Connecting classrooms to industry experts to enhance learning outcomes</li>



<li>Creating an upskilling platform to empower youth with better career opportunities</li>



<li>Creating a tech-enabled donation system to streamline the delivery of educational resources</li>
</ul>



<p>Throughout the hackathon, UBS Distinguished Engineers mentored the participants, helping them understand the real-world context of the challenges, guiding them during brainstorming sessions, and offering support to overcome technical hurdles. While the ideas and execution remained entirely student-led, the mentors played a key role in helping teams navigate and refine their solutions based on practical insights.</p>



<p>The top three teams presented solutions using cutting-edge technologies, including AI models and blockchain, to address pressing issues in India’s ed-tech landscape. High-potential ideas will be considered for Minimum Viable Product (MVP) development and further refinement.</p>



<p>The winning teams were felicitated by the UBS India leadership team:</p>

<p><strong>MUMBAI:</strong> In an exceptional achievement, Mumbai-based high school robotics team Sigma 9692 has won the prestigious Engineering Inspiration Award at the FIRST Robotics Midwestern Regional Championship held in Chicago, USA. With this remarkable victory, Team Sigma has qualified to represent India at the FIRST World Championship in Houston from April 16–19, 2025.</p>



<p>Remarkably, this is only Team Sigma’s second year participating, a feat rarely accomplished by veteran teams globally. The team comprises 27 dedicated students, including 25 from 13 different schools in Mumbai, and two students working remotely from Indore and Delhi.</p>



<p>This year’s robotics challenge, “Reefscape,” tasked students with designing robots to place coral pieces at heights reaching 7 feet. Team Sigma’s robot, affectionately named “Spongebot,” excelled by ranking first in coral placement at the highest level and third in autonomous coding consistency. The robot features an innovative four-wheel swerve drive system, achieving speeds of 7 meters/second, and boasts an elevator mechanism that reaches 8 feet in just 0.5 seconds.</p>



<p>Beyond competition, Team Sigma has made a significant social impact, introducing robotics and coding to over 3,000 underserved students across Mumbai in two years. The team successfully raised ₹20 lakh from Indian corporates, setting up robotics labs in 10 underserved schools. Their outreach gained recognition from Maharashtra’s Skill Development Ministry, leading them to conduct a webinar on coding for 50,000 ITI students state-wide. Impressed by their initiative, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister personally congratulated the team.</p>

Team Sigma is mentored by RFL Academy and their talented coaches &#8211; Mr. Virendra, Mr. Atul, and Mr. Sunil led by RFL’s cofounder and CEO, Ashwin Shah, who recently received the esteemed Woodie Flowers Finalist Award in the US for outstanding mentorship in robotics education.</p>



<p>“<em>We’re immensely proud of this achievement. It shows Indian students can lead globally in robotics</em>,” said <strong>Ashwin Shah</strong>. <strong>Team vice-captain Arav Arzare</strong> added, “<em>Winning this award motivates us further to spread robotics education to every corner of India.</em>”</p>



<p>Team Sigma now prepares to compete against top international teams at the FIRST World Championship in Houston, representing India on a global stage and inspiring the next generation of young innovators.</p>

<p><strong>PUNE: </strong>Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), a global leader in metal forging and engineering, today unveiled its state-of-the-art 3 lakh sq. ft. defense manufacturing facility in Jejuri, near Pune. The facility, designed with a multi-model flexible layout and integrated testing capabilities, is set to become a critical hub for Indigenous artillery systems and specialist defense vehicles.</p>



<p><strong>However, the plant is currently awaiting final approvals before it can commence full-scale operations.</strong></p>



<p>Strategically located with highway connectivity, proximity to key suppliers, and access to a highly skilled talent pool, the Jejuri plant is expected to play a significant role in advancing India’s self-reliance in defense production under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. Once fully operational, it will manufacture a diverse range of advanced defense systems and become a key hub for Bharat Forge’s defense manufacturing capabilities.</p>



<p>Bharat Forge has invested in this facility in anticipation of large-scale defense contracts from both domestic and international markets. The plant is geared to manufacture the indigenously developed Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) for the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD). These cutting-edge 155mm howitzers, developed in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), are set to enhance India’s artillery capabilities. Additionally, Bharat Forge already exports its advanced artillery systems to various friendly nations.</p>



<p>Once operational, the Jejuri facility will be a landmark step in advancing India’s defense manufacturing capabilities, fostering strategic autonomy, and reinforcing India’s role as a global defense exporter. The ATAGS program is a testament to Indian engineering excellence, and Bharat Forge remains committed to designing and producing world-class artillery and mobility solutions that will define the future of warfare.</p>
