Some of the featured participants at the fair and their uniqueness:

1. Sridevi Handlooms – Ikat, Kalamkari, Indonesian Ikat fabrics, stoles etc- Nalgonda, Telangana

Traditional and modern Ikat designs are hand-woven by women on a loom at their homes in Nalgonda, Telangana. All dyes used are chemical-free hence, the fabric does not run color, doesn’t fade easily, and is soft and breathable on the skin.

Complex Indonesian Ikat weaves are also available here. Fabric is bought by various large and small boutiques across the country.

2. Saath Foundation – Tangalia & Rajkot Patola, Fabrics, Sarees, Salwar sets, etc. – Surendranagar, Gujarat

Patola and Tangalia arts are several centuries old.

Patola is a weave, the raw material used for patolas is traditionally silk. Weaving is an intensive process that includes the entire family from dyeing the silk threads, marking the design, and then weaving.

Tangaliya is woven on a pitloom: a small and simple loom that is installed in a pit. The loom is operated by two foot-pedals (in the pit), leaving the hands of the weaver free for the dana-work.

Saath Foundation is helping these dying arts by extending support to the weavers in sourcing raw materials at competitive prices, product innovation and finding new markets for improving sales.

3. Kapileshwar Mohanto – Kotpad Thann Fabric, Stoles – Odisha

Kotpad fabrics are made using traditional techniques involving the use of cow dung, oil, and natural dyes. Made by tribals on traditional wooden looms, these fabrics and stoles are good on the skin and long-lasting.

4. ReCharkha – Recycled Lifestyle products – Pune

Tribal women and youth manually weave fabric from waste plastic using a traditional Charkha (Spindle) and handloom. The fabric is then used to make recycled lifestyle products such as handbags, fashion accessories, office utilities, and home décor.

Indian Domestic Garment Industry Anticipates 20% Surge in Festive Retail Sales

MUMBAI: The 77th edition of the National Garment Fair (NGF 2023) in Mumbai, organized by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), was a roaring success with more than 35,000 visitors comprising national and regional retailers, distributors, and wholesalers. Over the four days (July 18-21, 2023), the enthusiasm of the participants reflected the optimism from retail sales during the upcoming festive season.

Spread across 8,00,000 sq.ft., the National Garment Fair 2023 (NGF 2023) saw the participation of more than 1200 brands presenting a diverse range of Women’s wear, Men’s Wear, and Accessories at the Bombay Exhibition NESCO Complex in Goregaon East, and the Kids wear exhibition at the Jio World Convention Centre in BKC.

Speaking about the domestic garment industry, Mr. Rajesh Masand, President, of the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), said, “Since the start of the year, the garment industry has been grappling with a certain slowdown with moderate growth of 5-6% in garment retail sales on average. Numerous brands and manufacturers have experienced a downturn of 10-15% compared to the previous year. Despite these challenges, there is optimism surrounding the forthcoming festive season, as the demand for apparel is anticipated to be robust.”

Speaking about the NGF 2023, Mr. Rohit Munjal, Vice President and Chairman of the Fair Committee, Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) said, “The success of the 77th National Garment Fair is a promising sign for the apparel trade, indicating a positive outlook for the upcoming festive season. Notably, prominent retailers and distributors from the country were observed attending the fair, showing interest in exploring regional brands with the potential for nationwide growth. The continuous growth and strength of NGF can be attributed to the unwavering support and active participation of both brands and retailers. Their consistent involvement has been instrumental in making the fair increasingly influential and successful.”

The size of the Indian apparel market is estimated to be Rs. 7.80 lakh crores and has grown by between 15-20% in FY2023. Speaking about the present outlook of the domestic garment industry, Mr. Rahul Mehta, Chief Mentor, of the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), said, “The organized segment of the market is projected to encompass approximately 25-30% of the total share. Prominent brands like Shoppers Stop, Reliance Trends, Lifestyle, V-Mart, and others are actively extending their presence and swiftly expanding their footprints into Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets.”

Recognized as the largest and most highly anticipated Trade Fair in the Indian Apparel Industry, the National Garment Fair by CMAI serves as a vital platform for connecting National and Regional Brands, Manufacturers, Designers, and Fashion Accessories manufacturers with Retailers, Agents, Distributors, and E-commerce Companies.
Education in Ireland to bring together 16 Irish HEIs to India for their in-person Education Fair in New Delhi and across cities in November

NEW DELHI: Driven by the overwhelming queries from Indian students, Education in Ireland – the Irish government’s national brand promoting Irish Higher Education Institutions’ is all set to organize its first post-pandemic in-person Education Fair in New Delhi. The relaunch of on-ground fairs comes with a plethora of opportunities for its attendees and will offer key insights to Indian students looking forward to studying abroad for the academic year 2023-2024.

The fair will be conducted in New Delhi at The Lalit Hotel on 19th November from 11 am to 4 pm wherein 16 leading Irish HEIs will be present to address, discuss, respond to queries, speak about programs available, intakes, offer acceptance, campus life, accommodation, international student support, scholarships, culture and more under one roof without the hassle of hiring an agent. Other than New Delhi, Education in Ireland fairs will also be organized in Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru.

Ireland has been at the forefront of welcoming international students to the country. It assures an established career for all students and offers a greater ROI to Indian students, unlike any other study-abroad destination. Talking about the fairs, Mr. Barry O’Driscoll, Regional Manager, India & South Asia for Education in Ireland said, “The in-person education fairs are happening after a gap of two years and as we re-commence the fairs across different cities in India, we aim to provide an opportunity for the students to find the right courses and job prospects by interacting face-to-face and directly with representatives of Irish higher education institutions. The fairs will help the students get informed of all the opportunities and prospects that Ireland has to offer.”

In recent years, Ireland has been witnessing a surge in demand for offbeat courses along with courses like mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, biotechnology, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, data analytics, cyber security, accounting/finance, and MBA.
Mr. O’Driscoll further added, “We have seen an increased interest of Indian Students in Ireland and the courses the HEI’s offer. Over 5000 Indian students choose Ireland as their study abroad destination at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. One of the key advantages of studying in Ireland is that students can avail of up to two years of ‘stay-back’ options after completing their course, at the postgraduate level. This guarantees students the opportunity to remain in Ireland for a period of one year to seek employment in dynamic sectors.”
The consistency of the Irish Education system to rank amongst the top 10 across the globe, makes Ireland a go-to destination for students aspiring for a comprehensive career. Ireland offers one of the most stable, secure, and pro-business economies thus making a perfect blend for students looking for career growth and a great standard of living.

The fairs will provide a free platform for all students to interact, gauge their prospects, apply directly to the below-mentioned leading Irish institution, and receive first-hand information on courses, the admission process, job opportunities, campus recruitment, scholarships, intakes, and so on.
