<p>Dr. Shah has led The Rockefeller Foundation, a philanthropy whose mission is to promote the well-being of people around the world, since 2017.</p>



<p>Before joining the foundation, Dr. Shah was the founder and managing partner of Latitude Capital, a private equity firm focused on infrastructure and energy projects in Africa and Asia. From 2009 to 2015, Dr. Shah served as head of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). In that role, he served on the National Security Council, led the U.S. responses to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and the 2014 West African Ebola pandemic, and secured bipartisan support for the passage of the Global Food Security Act and the Electrify Africa Act. Before joining USAID, Dr. Shah served as chief scientist and undersecretary for research, education, and economics at the United States Department of Agriculture, where he created the National Institute for Food and Agriculture. Earlier in his career, Dr. Shah was a director at the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation, where he created the International Financing Facility for Immunization.</p>



<p>Dr. Shah is a graduate of the University of Michigan, the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and the Wharton School of Business. He served as a distinguished fellow in residence at Georgetown University and has received the Secretary of State’s Distinguished Service Award and the U.S. Global Leadership Award.</p>

<p><strong>NEW YORK:</strong> The Federal Reserve Bank of New York has named Kartik B. Athreya as the new Director of Research and Head of the Research &amp; Statistics Group. Athreya, who is currently the Executive Vice President and Director of Research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, will join the New York Fed in February 2024.</p>



<p>In his current role, Athreya has successfully launched several initiatives unique to the District, including the Center for Advancing Women in Economics. He has also advised the Bank&#8217;s president on matters related to monetary policy, banking, and financial markets.</p>



<p>John C. Williams, President and CEO of the New York Fed, praised Athreya&#8217;s leadership skills and his proven track record of bringing a collaborative and inclusive approach to leadership. Williams expressed confidence that Athreya&#8217;s expertise in macroeconomics and household finance would help drive innovative research and policy analysis at the New York Fed.</p>



<p>Athreya, who has served in economic research leadership roles for over 10 years, has a doctorate in economics from the University of Iowa and a bachelor&#8217;s degree in economics from Iowa State University. His research interests are in macroeconomics and consumer finance, and his current research is focused on measuring and understanding household financial distress and debt repayment decisions.</p>



<p>In his new role, Athreya will be a member of the Bank&#8217;s Executive Committee and will lead the Research &amp; Statistics Group, which is responsible for conducting economic research, regional analysis, and community outreach efforts. He expressed his excitement about using his experience and knowledge to support the Federal Reserve System in understanding the economy, addressing economic challenges, and guiding the formulation of monetary policy.</p>



<p>Overall, Athreya&#8217;s appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to the New York Fed&#8217;s research and policy analysis efforts, as he takes on the role of Director of Research and Head of the Research &amp; Statistics Group.</p>

<p><strong>NEW YORK:</strong> The Federal Reserve Bank of New York today announced the appointment of Kelly Bliss to the New York Fed’s Second District Advisory Council, effective immediately.</p>



<p>The Second District Advisory Council, which is comprised of senior business leaders, generally meets three times a year to provide the New York Fed President and New York Fed leadership with high-level insights about business and economic conditions in the Second District. Members of the Council serve three-year terms. The next meeting of the Council is scheduled for November 6, 2023.</p>



<p>Bliss is the president of U.S. Group Health at Teladoc Health, a telemedicine and virtual healthcare company. Bliss oversees the company’s U.S. group business growth, strategy, and client and commercial operations. Previously, Bliss was the chief client officer at Teladoc Health. Earlier, she held executive roles at various health and health tech organizations, including serving as chief of staff for Best Doctors, a company acquired by Teladoc in 2017. Bliss has a bachelor’s degree in industrial psychology from Nichols College.</p>

<p><strong>NEW YORK: </strong>The Federal Reserve Bank of New York today announced the appointment of Aisha Benson to the New York Fed’s Community Advisory Group, effective immediately.</p>



<p>The Community Advisory Group is comprised of leaders of nonprofits, community organizations, foundations, and anchor institutions. The primary goal of the Community Advisory Group is to provide the New York Fed, including President John C. Williams, with a real-time view of the economic issues faced by a diverse set of communities and individuals across the Second District. Ms. Benson’s appointment comes in advance of the Community Advisory Group’s next meeting on June 21, 2023.</p>



<p>Ms. Benson is president and CEO of the Nonprofit Finance Fund, a community development financial institution (CDFI) that has invested more than $1.1 billion in loans and grants to community nonprofits since 1980. Previously, Ms. Benson was executive vice president and chief operating officer of TruFund Financial Services, a Black-led nonprofit community development fund. Earlier in her career, Ms. Benson held community development finance roles at Carver Federal Savings, Banco Popular, and JPMorgan Chase. Ms. Benson serves on the boards of the Opportunity Finance Network, the New York State CDFI Coalition, and the New Markets Tax Credit Coalition, where she is board president. Ms. Benson graduated from Columbia University with a psychology degree.</p>
