MALAYSIA: A restarted race in Sepang saw Luca Marini battle through the intense heat and recover to 15th, closing the championship gap to his teammate, Joan Mir, who fell early in the race.

Race day at the Malaysian Grand Prix was a hot affair, hardly a cloud in the sky to block the intense sun which made for an even more demanding 20-lap contest. Action would be halted almost immediately as a multiple rider crash in the opening corners brought out the red flag. Fortunately, all involved avoided serious injury.

Running through the quick restart procedure, Luca Marini launched his Repsol Honda Team RC213V off the line for a second time – again gaining positions from the rivals around him. A consistent race followed for the #10 who managed his tyres well and was able to pass the likes of Nakagami and Raul Fernandez as he worked his way up the field into the points. The final laps of the race saw Marini defending against Marc Marquez and Franco Morbidelli, crossing the line in 15th and adding another point to his 2024 tally. But, Marini is hungry for more to be able to properly show his and his team’s efforts from throughout the year.

Joan Mir had made a lightning-fast start to the initial running of the Malaysian GP before the red flag and tried his hardest to emulate it on the second attempt. Able to match the pace of his teammate early on, Mir would ultimately fall victim to a crash at Turn 9. Unharmed, it leaves a disappointed taste in the mouth of the #36 who will once again pick himself up and prepare for the next race.

Now the MotoGP paddock will have a week to rest and recover after the most intense period of the season. One final race awaits for the Repsol Honda Team in what has been a complicated 2024 World Championship season before testing begins almost immediately after.

Luca Marini (15th) “The race was a little bit hot. From the physical side, I am happy with my performance. The grip was quite low with the heat so we struggled for some traction during the race. With the quick start procedure, everything also got hotter which complicated some things for the second start. During the race, our tyre management was quite good and I was able to make up ground later, especially under braking. We started far back so it’s difficult to catch up. I am not happy with P15, the position doesn’t show all the work that we have done nor the race that I did today. Points are good, but we want more because everyone is working very hard inside Honda.”

Joan Mir (DNF) “I made a really good start with the first go of the race and I was running with the top ten! Unfortunately, I made some contact with Miller, so I was quite worried, it was a relief to see the images of him in pit lane and then I went to his box after and he was typical Jack. This is the most important. During the race, I wasn’t able to ride in a good way and I fell, unharmed, but our race was over. It hasn’t happened again, so we need to check and be sure. Like the last few races, I was able to overtake many of the riders but starting in the back complicates things. One more chance to do some more.”

Ferrari’s new look unveiled specially for the Miami Grand Prix will also catch the attention of the fans.

A special tribute will also be given to three-time F1 Champion Ayrton Senna in Miami, with the race weekend coming days after his 30th death anniversary.
THAILAND: Honda’s Marc Marquez kept the crowd on the edge of their seats at the Thailand Grand Prix, putting on a spectacular performance in the Sprint Race to secure fourth place. Starting from the third row, Marquez battled his way through the top 12, saving himself and his tire for the end of the race. Despite dropping to sixth place, Marquez dug deep and put it all on the line in the final two laps, passing Bezzecchi and entering into an intense battle with Aleix Espargaro for fourth place. In a repeat of the 2019 World Championship, the race came down to the final corner, and Marquez slipped ahead to seal fourth place.

Joan Mir also put on an impressive performance, recovering seven places to finish in 12th position after a difficult Q1 session. Mir was immediately in attack mode, making up a handful of places in the first corners and matching the lap times of the top ten. Content with the speed he showed, Mir is hoping to put his learning into action on Sunday and return to a point-scoring finish.

The Thailand Grand Prix was an intense day of MotoGP action, with lap records falling from almost the first moment of the day. The main event, the Thai GP, is scheduled to start at 15:00 Local Time on October 29, 2023, and will run over 26 laps.

Overall, Honda’s Marc Marquez and Joan Mir put on impressive performances at the Thailand Grand Prix, showcasing their skills and determination on the track.

Marc Marquez said, “It was a really busy day today, it’s always like that when you go through Q1. The team did a really good job and we were able to improve, I could ride in a better way and made it to Q2. From starting on the third row we were able to stay in contact with the front group and we were able to put on a good show and have a fun race. The Sprint overall was much better than I expected, we made a good start and battled until the end. The last corner was the opposite of 2019, I attacked and made it stick instead of defending from someone else’s attack. It looks like I have the correct braking point at that corner!”

Quote from Joan Mirth) “It was a harder day than I was expecting. Starting from the 19th you have a lot to deal with and even when you have the speed like we had today, there’s still a lot of work to do. Finishing 12th is not bad, it was quite a real position and I think we need to be content with what’s been achieved today. My pace wasn’t for the top five, but certainly, if we started ahead we could have been there in the points.
NEW DELHI: Singapore is all set to host the 14th edition of the Grand Prix Season Singapore (GPSS) from September 8 to 17, 2023. The event will feature electrifying precinct parties spread across four distinctive locations and an enticing array of race-themed lifestyle experiences throughout the city.

Designed to cater to diverse tastes and interests, GPSS offers an array of experiences that inspire both locals and visiting travelers to embark on a journey of exploration across all the offerings that Singapore has in store. GPSS, along with the F1 Singapore race, brings a wealth of themed parties and celebrations to the F1 period, allowing attendees to fully enjoy this unique event.

According to GB Srithar, Regional Director, India, Middle East, South Asia & Africa, Singapore Tourism Board (STB), “GPSS is an unmissable experience for those seeking our unique blend of speed, spectacle, and entertainment.“

This year’s precinct parties, themed ‘Circuit of Festivity,’ promise unique race-themed offerings at four different yet interconnected locations. Orchard Road, Clarke Quay, Kampong Gelam, and Sentosa will each have their own distinctive and extensive programming, allowing visitors to spend more time exploring each location’s offerings in depth.

Orchard Road, Singapore’s famous shopping belt, will transform into a multifaceted epicenter of excitement during GPSS. Visitors can explore the Orchard Pit Shops: GPSS Lifestyle Bazaar, featuring over 24 stalls offering an array of local artisanal products, delectable food and beverages, live music, and captivating art installations. Furthermore, shoppers will be delighted to discover a retail haven at Design Orchard, where limited-edition merchandise, exclusively curated for GPSS, awaits shoppers.

Clarke Quay will offer a wide range of entertainment options that bring a buzz to the area. From the bustling CQ Street Market to the GPSS Fitness Fest featuring Les Mills, fitness enthusiasts can enjoy dynamic workouts with music and captivating lights. Motorsports fans can compete in the Teleios Race Sims Grand Slam for the GPSS Sims Championship. At OutDrive GP, meet Formula 1 and Formula 2 drivers like Nico Hulkenberg and witness live racing against local stimulated racing talent. Music lovers can immerse themselves in Asia’s premier independent music festival, Music Matters Live, featuring a diverse lineup including Kiwi singer-songwriter Paige, Indonesian sensation Teddy Adhitya, Korean electro-pop acts like Love x Stereo, and more, alongside local talents.

Visitors can immerse themselves in Singapore’s rich culture and heritage at the Kampong Gelam precinct party known as Culturally Singapore. This event features multicultural performances in celebration of the race season and the festivities. Satisfying culinary experiences await visitors to the GPSS Food Park, where one can enjoy a delectable mix of local and international cuisines, including smoky flavors at Hot-Pit Stop: Grills & BBQ.

Sentosa, known for its pristine beaches and world-class attractions, is back with island-exclusive experiences aimed at adventure seekers. Following its successful debut at the GPSS precinct parties last year, Sentosa now offers a range of exciting activities. Stretching across Siloso Beach, the Siloso Beachwalk Bazaar promises a dining and shopping extravaganza, complete with roving acts and other entertaining pitstops. For those looking to savor Singapore’s iconic culinary delights, including the internationally renowned Chilli Crab, the GPSS Beach Feastable will be a major draw, featuring approximately 20 gourmet booths and al-fresco beachside seating. Automobile enthusiasts will be thrilled by “Timeless Rides: An Era of Vintage & Classic Cars,” a display of rare cars specially curated for GPSS.

A vibrant and fun-packed GPSS 2023 awaits visitors to Singapore until September 30, including ample opportunities to party with MARQUEE Singapore Race Weekend’s star-studded lineup of international DJs including Alan Walker and Hardwell.

The Grand Prix Season Singapore (GPSS) showcases the best of Singapore’s vibrant lifestyle experiences, ranging from exciting nightlife, parties, and entertainment to world-class shopping and dining. Experience all these, and more, at the home of FORMULA 1’s first night street race, where there is “Excitement at Every Turn.”
