The proposed facility will utilize high ash Indian coal from NTPC’s captive mines, converting it into SNG – a cleaner fuel alternative for NTPC’s gas-based power stations as well as in-situ power generation. This initiative aligns with the national vision for cleaner coal technologies and energy diversification.

Coal gasification is emerging as a key enabler for the sustainable utilization of domestic coal reserves, reducing dependency on imported fuels and lowering emissions.

Further, NETRA – which is the R&D wing of NTPC – is actively leading the initiative under its broader vision of “Greening the Coal” and advancing carbon capture and utilization technologies. MUMBAI: The Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) vertical of Larsen & Toubro has won new orders in the Middle East for expanding and strengthening the electricity grids at high voltage levels.

Saudi Arabia

The different operating regions in Saudi Arabia’s national electricity network are being interconnected through High Voltage Direct Current links that enable exchange of power between regions and enhanced system resilience. L&T has secured orders to establish ±500kV HVDC Transmission Links associated with these interconnections.

L&T has also won orders for three more packages involving two 380kV overhead transmission lines and a bulk supply 380kV Gas Insulated Substation. These elements contribute significantly to the renewable generation interconnection and fortification of the grid.

United Arab Emirates

In Abu Dhabi, L&T has received an order to build two major 400kV Gas Insulated Substations. In addition to civil works, the scope also involves Series Current Limiting Reactors, Auto Transformers, related control, protection, substation monitoring & alarm systems including fault and power quality monitoring, telecommunication systems, and integration with the Load Dispatch Centre. These substations will enhance the power transfer capacity of the electricity grid.

INDIA: Honeywell today introduced Honeywell Forge Performance+ for Utilities, a groundbreaking platform designed to help utilities improve their operations and enhance the performance of existing utility grid assets and IT investments. The integration of automation software for utilities supports Honeywell’s alignment of its portfolio with the automation and energy transition megatrends.

The new solution is built on Honeywell Forge, which incorporates artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and digital twin capabilities intended to help utilities monitor assets, effectively identify root causes, and introduce predictive analytics to become more proactive with grid asset management.
