<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Too much of a good thing—like protein—can damage your hair. Here’s a clear breakdown of protein overload, its causes, effects, and how to manage it. Protein overload happens when hair absorbs excessive protein from hair products. This makes the hair stiff, brittle, and prone to breakage. The issue arises when there&#8217;s an imbalance between protein and moisture, usually from overusing protein treatments without adding enough hydration.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Can Protein Overload Cause Hair Loss?</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Protein overload can lead to breakage, which may look like hair loss. Hair becomes rigid and snaps easily, giving the impression of thinning or excessive shedding. However, protein overload does not harm hair follicles or cause permanent hair loss. With the right moisture balance, the damage can be reversed.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Protein Overload in hair in caused by:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Overuse of Protein-Based Products &#8211;</strong> Regular keratin treatments, protein masks, or conditioners with ingredients like hydrolyzed keratin or silk protein can result in buildup and hair stiffness.</li>



<li><strong>Lack of Moisture &#8211;</strong> When protein treatments are used without adequate moisturizing products, hair becomes dry and difficult to manage.</li>



<li><strong>Frequent Use of Leave-In Protein Treatments &#8211;</strong> Leave-in products that contain protein too often can cause buildup, as these products remain on the hair longer than rinse-out treatments.</li>



<li><strong>Hard Water Buildup &#8211;</strong> Minerals in hard water, such as calcium and magnesium, can interact with protein products and create a film on the hair, reducing flexibility.</li>



<li><strong>Low Porosity Hair &#8211;</strong> Hair with low porosity tends to repel moisture and product absorption. Protein-based products may sit on the hair rather than penetrate, leading to dryness and brittleness.</li>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>How to Treat Protein Overload?</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Stop using protein-based products to allow your hair to recover. Switch to moisturizing shampoos, conditioners, and leave-in treatments with ingredients like aloe vera or glycerin. Use a mild sulfate-free or chelating shampoo to remove buildup. Add light oils like argan or jojoba to restore softness. For low porosity hair, applying heat while deep conditioning can help moisture penetrate more effectively.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Maintain a balance between protein and moisture in your hair care routine. Avoid frequent use of protein treatments, especially if you have low porosity hair. Use moisturizing products regularly and clarify your hair occasionally to prevent buildup.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>MUMBAI:</strong> Maharashtra is witnessing strong growth in the shampoo hair color category, driven by a rising preference for quick and convenient hair coloring solutions. Consumers in the state are increasingly opting for shampoo hair color, a do-it-yourself (DIY) format that eliminates the need for professional assistance.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">With increasing awareness and demand for ease of use, Maharashtra contributes ₹110+ crore to India’s ₹900 crore shampoo hair color market. Industry analysts attribute this surge in demand to the convenience of shampoo-based applications, which provide a fast and efficient alternative to conventional hair colors and other formats like hair color powder and mehndi, making them well-suited for modern lifestyles.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“<em>As consumers seek personalized and innovative hair color solutions, the growth in demand for shampoo hair color has been significant</em>,” said <strong>Neeraj Senguttuvan, Head of Marketing – Personal Care at Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL).</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Recognizing this shift, Godrej Consumer Products offers Godrej Selfie, a five-minute shampoo hair color brand. The unisex product comes in two sizes, INR 15 pack meant specially for short-hair consumers while INR 30 pack is primarily for long-hair consumers.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“<em>This offering will also nudge consumers using other low-cost hair colors like powder and mehndi hair color to upgrade to an affordable yet convenient and better solution</em>,” <strong>Senguttuvan</strong> added. Maharashtra’s shampoo hair color segment is witnessing over 17% growth rate, highlighting the state&#8217;s increasing adoption of this convenient hair coloring format.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">With the category witnessing strong momentum, industry experts predict that Maharashtra will play an increasingly significant role in shaping India&#8217;s hair color market in the coming years.</p>

The competition, designed for professionals in the field of cut, color, and style, scouted the best talent in the hairdressing industry, adjudged by industry experts and international celebrity stylists.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The event also marked the launch of Streax Professional&#8217;s latest hairstyles collection, Spectrum, which was introduced by actress Rakul Preet Singh, who walked the ramp as the show&#8217;s highlight. The collection, curated by celebrated fashion designer Samant Chauhan, is a diverse range of vibrant hues that go beyond the boundaries of traditional color palettes. Pushkar won INR 5 lakhs and a trip to attend OMC Fashion World 2024. Also, he bagged an annual contract with Streax Professional for their annual collection in 2024. The first runner-up Bikash Sharma from West Bengal took home a cash prize of INR 2.5 lakhs while the second runner-up Manish Kumar from Jharkhand won INR 1.5 lakhs. There were a total of 12 finalists from 4 zones for the final competition.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>PUNE:</strong> Godrej Professional, the leading professional hair color brand, unveiled the ‘Dimension- Ombreyage collection’ by conducting a workshop with 100+ hair stylists in Pune. The new hair color looks are part of ‘Dimension’, a campaign by Godrej Professional weaving beauty with the message of acceptance, inclusivity, and self-expression.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Co-created by the country’s prominent hair stylists like Heena Dalvi, Ryan D’Rozario, Sylvia Chen, and Najeeb Rehman, the four hair color looks of ‘Dimension- Ombreyage collection’ are Sandstone Ombreyage, Auburn Ombreyage, Crimson Ombreyage, and Pearl Square. These hair color looks encompass a multitude of tones and styles to create distinct looks for every mood, every style, and every identity. It celebrates and flaunts every dimension and style that makes one look and feel beautiful, inside and out because hair color does not differentiate between gender, race, size, or skin tone.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Over 100 stylists spent the day with the brand’s education and technical ambassadors who demonstrated these new looks. The workshop commenced with an informative talk by them on trending haircuts and the four hair coloring techniques. Heena Dalvi and Sylvia Chen demonstrated the color and cut live on stage – revealing all the tips and tricks to stylists to recreate these looks in their salons.</p>
