An exclusive ‘Toy Donation Drive’ was organized under Duville Cares

PUNE: Duville Estates, through its social welfare brand Duville Cares, celebrated the festive season by organising a ‘Toy Donation Drive’ for the children at its labour camp, reflecting the true spirit of giving. This initiative was organized with the active participation and support of the Duville Envoy (existing customers). There was significant participation from the customer community, comprising nearly 6,000 residents across Riverdale Heights, Riverdale Residences, and Riverdale Suites. These Duville Envoys were joined by the Riverdale site office teams, who came together to bring joy to the labourers’ children.

This activity culminated in a heart-warming Christmas celebration at the labour camp, where the toys collected from the donation drive run at each of the resident communities were distributed to the children. The happiness on their faces spoke louder than words. Moments like these show how simple acts of kindness add real meaning.

What began as an idea to share the spirit of giving turned into a full-fledged ‘Toy Donation Drive’ from the existing customer community to the children on site. This reinforces Duville Estates commitment to building communities that go beyond physical infrastructure, fostering empathy, engagement, and togetherness across customers, employees, construction workers, families, and partners.

This initiative served very well to bring together the existing customer community from Riverdale while meaningfully bringing happiness to these children associated with the Duville ecosystem.

Speaking about the initiative, Tushad B. Dubash, Director, Duville Estates, shared, “It was heartening to see our existing customers come forward and actively participate in the toy donation drive. Their willingness to offer their children’s toys brought immense happiness to the children at the camp. It is these small gestures that help build a cohesive community, something Duville Estates continues to strive for.”

Innovative treatment helps Hyderabad woman recover from long-standing irregular heartbeat

HYDERABAD: CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills, widely recognized as a pioneer in advanced cardiac care in India, has successfully performed an Atrial Fibrillation (AF) Ablation using the newly launched Q Dot technology, placing the hospital among the first centres in India to adopt this next-generation electrophysiology platform.

The procedure was performed on a 57-year-old woman diagnosed with persistent atrial fibrillation and biatrial cardiomyopathy, and she is currently stable and maintaining normal sinus rhythm following the intervention under the care of Dr. M. Srinivasa Rao, Regional Clinical Director & Sr. Interventional Cardiologist, CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills.

Q Dot is the latest advancement in catheter ablation technology, designed to deliver high-power, short-duration energy with enhanced temperature control and precision. This allows electrophysiologists to complete complex AF procedures in a shorter duration while improving safety and reducing the risks associated with prolonged exposure to anesthesia and radiation.

Speaking about the achievement, Dr. Ramakrishna SVK, Clinical Director – Cardiac Electrophysiology at CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills, said that the arrival of Q Dot represents a significant development in the treatment of atrial fibrillation in India. He stated that the technology brings a higher degree of accuracy and consistency to ablation therapy, particularly for patients living with long-standing arrhythmias who require advanced intervention beyond medical therapy.

Commenting on the milestone, Biju Nair, Zonal Chief Operating Officer, CARE Hospitals, said that the successful procedure reflects the strength of the hospital’s cardiac program and the depth of its sub-specialty teams. He added that CARE Banjara has been at the forefront of introducing new-generation technologies in cardiac care and will continue to expand access to advanced treatment for patients across the country.

Atrial fibrillation affects nearly 1% of India’s population, with prevalence increasing among people over 40. This development is expected to benefit individuals suffering from symptomatic or persistent atrial fibrillation who have not responded adequately to medication or who are at risk of long-term complications such as heart failure, stroke, and reduced quality of life. It also supports cardiologists, internists, and referring physicians who are seeking reliable clinical partners for electrophysiology evaluation, second-opinion consultations, or interventional management of rhythm disorders. Patients and families seeking clarity on treatment suitability may reach out to the Cardiac Electrophysiology team at CARE Banjara for clinical assessment and counselling.

The successful introduction of Q Dot further strengthens CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills as a leading centre for advanced cardiac electrophysiology in India and reinforces the organisation’s commitment to combining medical expertise with future-ready technology to improve outcomes for patients with complex cardiac conditions.

Dr J Kannan, Senior Consultant – Adult Cardiology, Narayana Health City, Bengaluru

A father’s health is the cornerstone of a family’s strength and happiness. When a father is healthy, he has the energy, presence, and resilience to support his loved ones through life’s challenges and joys. But when stress, work pressure, and lifestyle habits take a toll on his heart, the entire family feels the impact. Fathers often put their family’s needs before their own, yet neglecting their own heart health can lead to serious consequences—not just for themselves, but for those who depend on them most.

How Stress Takes a Toll on a Father’s Heart

Stress is an invisible burden many fathers carry silently. The constant juggling of work deadlines, financial responsibilities, and family demands can create chronic stress that silently damages the heart. Scientific research shows that prolonged stress triggers the release of hormones like adrenaline and cortisol, which raise blood pressure, increase heart rate, and cause arteries to narrow. Over time, this can accelerate the build-up of plaque in arteries, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

For fathers, this means that the emotional weight of everyday pressures isn’t just mental—it’s physical. Ignoring stress or pushing through the daily grind without adequate care can lead to serious cardiovascular problems, robbing fathers of the vitality and longevity needed to be present for their children and partners.

What to Watch For: Subtle Signs of Heart Trouble

Heart attacks don’t always come with dramatic chest pain, or pain in the arm, neck or jaw; often, the signs are subtle and easy to dismiss. Recurrent chest discomfort—especially if it lasts days and feels like pressure on the chest or breastbone—should not be ignored.

Feeling unusually full after a light meal, persistent acidity, unexplained nausea, or even fatigue during simple activities like walking short distances may all signal reduced blood flow to the heart. If you feel faint, especially to the point of having to sit down or feeling disoriented, it could be a red flag.

Men usually brush these signs off as gas, poor sleep, indigestion, or age-related fatigue. But recognising these symptoms early could mean the difference between life and death. Don’t wait—talk to your family and get checked by a doctor.

Tips for Fathers to Protect Their Heart Health

The good news is that fathers can take simple, effective steps to safeguard their heart health and, by extension, their family’s future:

1. Move Your Body Daily

Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week. Activities like brisk walking, cycling, swimming, or even playing with your kids can strengthen your heart, lower blood pressure, and reduce stress. Remember, even short bursts of activity throughout the day add up.

2. Choose Heart-Healthy Foods

Opt for a diet rich in whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, legumes, and healthy fats like olive oil and fatty fish. Limit processed foods, excess salt, and sugary treats. Small changes, like swapping fried snacks for nuts or adding more greens to meals, can make a big difference.

3. Manage Stress Mindfully

Incorporate stress-relief practices into your routine—try meditation, deep breathing exercises, yoga, or simply taking quiet moments to unwind. Physical activity helps reduce stress hormones naturally. Don’t hesitate to seek support from loved ones or professionals when life feels overwhelming.

4. Prioritise Sleep and Rest

Quality sleep is essential for heart health. Aim for at least seven hours of restful sleep each night to allow your body and mind to recover.

5. Regular Health Check-Ups

Keep track of your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels through regular medical check-ups. Early detection and management of risk factors can prevent serious heart problems.

The Heartbeat of the Family

A father’s heart is more than a vital organ—it’s the pulse that keeps the family moving forward. By prioritising his heart health, a father not only protects himself but also sets a powerful example for his children about the importance of self-care and resilience. Taking these steps today ensures that more tomorrows are filled with love, laughter, and shared memories.

Remember, your family needs you to be strong and healthy—because a father’s heart is truly the heart of the family.

It’s a significant accomplishment for a woman to finish her breast cancer therapy. However, as oncologists frequently emphasise, surviving is only the first step. The ensuing years may present a unique set of difficulties, some anticipated and some unexpected.

The heart is one of the less well-known issues.

Heart health can be impacted by several cancer treatments, including targeted medicines like trastuzumab, chemotherapy medications like anthracyclines, and chest radiation. Even years after the conclusion of treatment, the effects might not be felt right away; they might develop gradually. Cardio-oncology, a relatively new area of medicine, is significantly improving this situation.

Our goal at Shivamogga’s Sahyadri Narayana Hospital is to always be one step ahead. We have a Breast Cancer Survivorship Clinic every third Thursday of the month, where women who have finished treatment can come for ongoing support. The clinic’s goal is to help survivors live better, not simply longer, by offering everything from lifestyle counselling and advice to heart exams and other follow-up care. A key component of this journey is the cardio-oncology care we provide, which is directed by consultant cardiologist Dr. Sreevatsa Nadig.

One of the most prestigious conferences in the industry, the 2025 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Chicago, gave us the chance to present our results to a worldwide audience earlier this year.

Our study asked a simple but important question: Are breast cancer survivors more prone to early signs of heart disease?

To investigate this, we examined two cohorts of women: one with a history of breast cancer and another with no such history. We employed a scan known as coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring, which aids in identifying early heart artery calcification. It’s a non-intrusive method of identifying hidden dangers before they become significant issues.

We were pleasantly surprised by what we discovered!

The two groups did not differ significantly from one another. Breast cancer survivors did not seem to be more susceptible to early heart disease than their peers when receiving the right care and monitoring.

This offers a message of hope—and a practical reminder to us all.

What can GPs and primary care doctors take away from this?

Follow-up is effective. Long-term issues can be avoided with the use of structured survivorship care.

Consider more than recurrence. It’s possible that symptoms like fatigue or dyspnoea don’t indicate that the cancer has returned. Heart health should also be taken into account.

Lives can be saved by early screenings. While not necessary for everyone, CAC scoring can be a helpful tool when used appropriately.

Collaboration is important. Collaboration between oncologists, cardiologists, general practitioners, and mental health specialists is beneficial to survivors.

For every woman who walks out of the oncology ward cancer-free, the hope is that she steps into a life full of vitality, confidence, and support. That’s why we believe survivorship needs just as much attention as the treatment itself. If you’re caring for a breast cancer survivor, do consider referring them to our clinic. Together, we can make sure their post-cancer journey is not only longer—but healthier and happier too

By: Dr. Ritankur Barkotoky, Consultant – Interventional Cardiology, Narayana Hospital, Guwahati

Fast food consumption has become a defining feature of modern diets. While convenient and satisfying, meals such as burgers, pizzas, fried chicken, and processed sandwiches pose serious risks to heart health even in younger people & children. The association between regular fast food intake and serious diseases like cardiovascular disease, Liver disease, & Cancers is now well-established through multiple clinical studies and epidemiological surveys.

Fast foods are often high in saturated fats and trans fats, both of which adversely affect cholesterol levels. Saturated fats increase low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, commonly referred to as ‘bad’ cholesterol, while trans fats not only raise LDL but also lower high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, the ‘good’ cholesterol. This imbalance accelerates the process of atherosclerosis, the buildup of fatty deposits in arteries, significantly increasing the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular events.

In addition to unhealthy fats, many fast foods are extremely high in sodium and refined carbohydrates. Excess sodium intake promotes hypertension, a leading contributor to heart disease. Refined carbohydrates can lead to spikes in blood sugar and insulin resistance, further compounding cardiovascular risk and Metabolic disorders like Diabetes & fatty liver disease. Frequent consumption of fast food meals, often characterised by oversized portions and high calorie density, also plays a significant role in the rising prevalence of obesity, another major risk factor for heart disease.

It is important to understand that occasional consumption of fast food within an otherwise balanced diet is unlikely to cause harm. However, habitual reliance on fast foods, especially in combination with sedentary lifestyles, amplifies the danger significantly. The engineered appeal of fast food, rich flavours, enhanced textures, and large portions can easily encourage overeating, making moderation challenging for many individuals. In India, due to a high amount of unhealthy carbohydrates & fatty foods, incidents of fatty liver disease increased exponentially, even in school-going children. It affects almost 50% of the population. Now, fatty liver disease increases the risk of cardiovascular disease significantly, apart from causing other symptoms

Protecting cardiovascular health requires thoughtful dietary choices. Prioritising fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats over processed and fast foods remains a fundamental strategy. Awareness of the hidden risks associated with frequent fast food consumption empowers individuals to make better decisions for their long-term heart health. Nothing can match a home-cooked healthy food with regular physical activity like 30 minutes of walking in preventing heart & metabolic disease like obesity, diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver disease & sleep apnoea in the younger population.

Heart disease often progresses silently over the years. Understanding the powerful role diet plays in its development offers an opportunity for early intervention and prevention.

BY Dr J Kannan, Senior Consultant – Adult Cardiology, Narayana Health City, Bengaluru

Fathers often put their family’s needs before their own, yet neglecting their heart health can lead to serious consequences, not just for themselves, but for those who depend on them most.

Heart attacks don’t always come with dramatic chest pain, or pain in the arm, neck, or jaw; often, the signs are subtle and easy to dismiss.

Remember, your family needs you to be strong and healthy, because a father’s heart is truly the heart of the family.

It is a common misconception that heart disease primarily affects men. In reality, however, it stands as the leading cause of death among women worldwide. Still, a lot of women don’t realise they’re at risk until their symptoms worsen, which can result in lost chances for early detection and treatment.

Unique Heart Health Challenges for Women

Women face distinct challenges when it comes to cardiovascular disease (CVD), due to one of reasons including lifestyle, biological, and hormonal. Unlike men, women may experience different symptoms during a heart attack, such as shortness of breath, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, jaw or neck discomfort, and unexplained anxiety or sweating. Eventually, these atypical symptoms often lead to misdiagnosis or delayed care.

Additionally, women are more prone to microvascular disease, which affects the small arteries of the heart and is harder to detect and treat. Hormonal changes, especially during menopause when oestrogen levels drop, increase the risk of atherosclerosis, high cholesterol, and blood clots.

Key Risk Factors for Women’s Heart Disease

Several risk factors contribute to heart disease in women, some of which are unique or more impactful compared to men:

High blood pressure and high cholesterol: These are major contributors to heart disease risk in both sexes but may affect women differently, especially after age 60.

Diabetes: Women with diabetes are two to four times more likely to develop cardiovascular disease than men with diabetes.

Hormonal changes: Menopause and surgical removal of ovaries reduce protective oestrogen, increasing cardiovascular risks.

Pregnancy complications: Conditions such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes elevate a woman’s lifetime risk of hypertension, diabetes, stroke, and heart disease.

Obesity and sedentary lifestyle: Post-menopausal women are more prone to obesity, particularly abdominal fat, which significantly raises heart disease risk. Physical inactivity is also a critical factor, with many women not getting enough exercise to protect their heart health.

Smoking: Women who smoke have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and heart attacks than men who smoke.

Autoimmune diseases: Women disproportionately suffer from autoimmune conditions like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, which increase cardiovascular risk.

Why Prioritising Heart Health Matters

Cardiovascular disease accounts for about 30 per cent of deaths in women globally, surpassing all forms of cancer combined. Yet, awareness remains low, with fewer than one in 10 women perceiving heart disease as their greatest health risk. This gap in awareness, combined with underdiagnosis and suboptimal care, puts women at greater risk of fatal outcomes.

However, heart diseases are largely preventable. Lifestyle changes such as adopting a heart-healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and soluble fibre, maintaining regular physical activity, avoiding tobacco, and moderating alcohol intake can dramatically reduce risk. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar is also essential for early detection as well as management.

A Call to Action for Women

Women of all ages must understand the significance of heart health. When they are aware of their particular risk factors and symptoms, women are more equipped to take preventative action and seek prompt medical care. To address this unique set of cardiovascular needs in women, healthcare practitioners must also raise awareness and customise care.

As mothers and caregivers, women often prioritise the health of their families over their own. Yet, a mother’s heart is the cornerstone of her family’s well-being. Prioritising cardiac health is not just a personal necessity but a vital step in sustaining the strength and vitality of future generations.

By embracing heart-healthy habits and advocating for better awareness and care, women can beat heart disease and continue to nurture their families with the strength of a healthy heart.

INDIA: MediBuddy, India’s largest digital healthcare company, today announced the launch of its latest campaign, #ReclaimYourHealth, to mark World Health Day. This innovative initiative uses humor and relatable content to highlight the stark contrast between the healthy habits of the past and today’s sedentary, technology-driven lifestyle.

Modern lifestyles often leave our bodies struggling—sedentary habits, poor diets, and limited fresh air have replaced the active and wholesome ways of the past. Through witty dialogue and visually striking contrasts, the campaign delivers a powerful yet simple message: reclaiming your health doesn’t require drastic measures, just a return to the basics.

#ReclaimYourHealth presents an entertaining yet educational video series featuring personified organs sharing their experiences in contemporary language. With scenarios such as a heart doing a TikTok dance versus slumped in a chair and lungs taking deep breaths in nature versus constricted by phone screen glow, the campaign highlights vital but often overlooked aspects of everyday health.

Health isn’t just a personal issue; it’s a family issue that impacts communities and ultimately affects society at large. While modern conveniences have improved many aspects of life, the campaign encourages viewers to reconsider the health trade-offs we have unconsciously accepted.

Speaking about the campaign, Saibal Biswas, SVP and Head of Marketing, PR and Partnerships, MediBuddy, said, “Reclaiming your health doesn’t require complex interventions—just simple choices like moving more, eating better, and breathing fresh air. Knowledge is power, and every mindful, conscious decision brings us closer to a healthier life. This World Health Day, let’s go beyond awareness. Let’s shift our focus from temporary fixes to lasting, meaningful change. Let’s reclaim our health.”

The campaign emphasizes that reclaiming health doesn’t require complex interventions—just returning to basics like moving more, eating better, and breathing fresh air.

This campaign was conceptualized and produced by MediBuddy’s in-house creative team. The campaign video, titled #ReclaimYourHealth, is 1 minute 14 seconds in duration. The video will be amplified across all social media platforms.

First Metal Stent-Less Angioplasty in Maharashtra outside Mumbai

PUNE: A 70-year-old diabetic patient who had suffered a heart attack underwent Pune’s first laser-assisted, stent-less angioplasty at Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital, Deccan Gymkhana. The revolutionary procedure, performed under the expertise of Dr. Abhijeet Palshikar, Director – Cardiology Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital, Deccan Gymkhana marks a significant milestone in interventional cardiology.

The patient, who had a history of diabetes, experienced a mild heart attack three days before the procedure and was initially treated medically. However, doctors identified two key challenges, a heavy calcium buildup in his artery, which made traditional stenting difficult, and his reluctance to have a stent placed. To address these concerns, the medical team chose a laser-assisted angioplasty combined with a drug-coated balloon, which successfully opened the artery without needing a permanent metal stent.

The angioplasty procedure utilized an Excimer laser, a state-of-the-art technology that effectively clears calcium and cholesterol deposits within arteries. This was followed by the use of a drug-coated balloon, an innovative alternative to traditional stents. Instead of placing a permanent implant, the drug-coated balloon delivers medication to the artery and is then removed, leaving no metal behind.

Dr. Abhijeet Palshikar, Director – Cardiology at Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital, Deccan Gymkhana explained the details and benefits of the procedure “The key benefits of the procedure include the absence of a permanent metal implant. Stents remain in the body permanently and may have risks of restenosis (artery re-narrowing). The laser-assisted approach eliminates this concern. Additionally, the patient experienced a faster recovery, being discharged within a day, walking independently, and resuming daily activities quickly. By the next day, he was mobile, walking independently to the restroom, and was discharged in the afternoon.”

“The success of this first-of-its-kind procedure in Pune paves the way for a new era in interventional cardiology, offering a safer and more effective alternative to traditional stenting methods which are minimally invasive alternatives.” Dr Sunil Rao, Chief Operating Officer and Medical Director at Sahyadri Group of Hospitals said.

The Excimer laser employed in the procedure is known for its precision in ablating calcified plaques, reducing risks while ensuring effective plaque removal. Additionally, drug-coated balloons provide targeted therapy, preventing restenosis without the need for permanent implants. With its many benefits, laser-assisted, stent-less angioplasty is expected to become a common procedure in the future, possibly replacing traditional angioplasty in many cases. It is not only useful for coronary artery disease but also for treating blockages in smaller blood vessels, where stents are less effective. The procedure is highly safe, with strict laser controls to reduce risks. It is also an excellent option for patients who have a blocked stent, as laser therapy can clear the obstruction without placing another stent.

“This breakthrough procedure offers a paradigm shift in angioplasty treatments. Patients who are hesitant about permanent stents or have complex calcified blockages now have an alternative that ensures better outcomes with reduced risks. The success of Pune’s first laser-assisted, stent-less angioplasty marks the beginning of a new chapter in cardiac care, and we anticipate its widespread adoption in the future.” Dr. Palshikar added.

Sahyadri Hospital is renowned for its exceptional cardiac care and commitment to integrating the latest medical advancements to deliver superior patient outcomes.
