The program commenced with introductory remarks and the welcoming of the MC, Daisy Stephen Pallipparambil, by G. Mathai, Trustee and Program Chairman.  Following the remarks by the MC, the American National Anthem was sung by Bailey Stephen and the Indian National Anthem by Amisha Jaimon. President Alex K. Esthappan welcomed everyone and provided a brief description of the activities and goals of the Kerala Center. New York Senator John Liu, Assemblymembers Michaelle Solages & Edward Braunstein, former Senator Kevin Thomas, and Ragini Srivastava, North Hempstead Town Clerk, were the dignitaries present to say felicitations and present awards. 

After the president’s welcome, Dr. Thomas Abraham, Chairman of the Trustee Board and Award Committee member, made his remarks and introduced the keynote speaker, Dr. Suresh Kumar. In his speech, Dr. Kumar talked about the concept of Indian Civilizational Intelligence that has the potential to propel India to be a number one or two economy in the world. 

The Board and Award Committee chairman, Dr. Madhu Bhaskaran, explained the process of selecting the awardees before the award presentation. In addition to the Kerala Center awards, Assembly members presented their own certificates and proclamations honoring the awardees. 

The award for excellence in community service went to Koshy O. Thomas. He was introduced by Samuel Joseph, youth forum secretary of the Kerala Center, and Assemblyman Braunstein presented the award in the presence of Sen. John Liu and Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages. Koshy currently serves as Special Assistant and Community Liaison to New York State Assemblyman Edward Braunstein and also serves as the Chairman of the India Day Parade Committee in Queens.

The award for excellence in Nursing leadership went to Priscilla Samuel. Priscilla was introduced by Baily Stephen, and Varkey Abraham presented the award in the presence of Assemblywoman Solages. Dr. Priscilla Samuel is a nationally recognized leader in advanced practice nursing, currently serving as Vice President of Advanced Practice Nursing at the Mount Sinai Health System. With a career spanning clinical practice, academic leadership, and health system innovation, Dr. Samuel remains committed to advancing the role of nurse practitioners and shaping the future of healthcare delivery.

The award for notable contribution to Pravasi Malayalam Literature went to Jayan Varghese. He was introduced by Raju Thomas, General Secretary of Kerala Center, and Ragini Srivastava, North Hempstead Town Clerk presented the award. Jayan is the author of ten books published in various genres of literature, like poetry and drama.

The award for excellence in legal service went to Diya Mathews. Diya was introduced by Dr. Anna George, and Attorney Appen Menon, Kerala Center Trustee, presented the award. Diya is a trailblazing attorney, business leader, and community advocate whose career bridges law, entrepreneurship, and service. As Partner in Charge of Chugh LLP’s New York and New Jersey offices, she leads a thriving practice focused on business immigration law and corporate compliance. She is widely recognized for her expertise in the Child Status Protection Act (CSPA). As she is admitted to practice law in both New York and India, she brings a truly global perspective to her work. She is the incoming President of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) – New Jersey Chapter.

The award for excellence in engineering went to Joharath Kutty. She was introduced by Nazeem Beena, and former Sen. Kevin Thomas presented the award. Joharath is a Senior Director of System Engineering at New York Power Authority (NYPA) with over 20 years of experience in the electric utility industry.   Her career spans Power Generation & High Voltage Transmission, Substation design, Grid Modernization, Power System Operation & Control, Transmission Operations Planning, and has been involved in every aspect of transmission expansion projects. In her current role, she provides overall leadership and technical direction as “Chief Engineer” for the Long Island transmission expansion project (Propel NY Energy).

The award for excellence in education went to Dr. Nandini Ambat Menon. She was introduced by Jose Stephen, Kerala Center member and NYC school teacher, and Dilip Varghese, Kerala Center Founder Grand Patron, presented the award.   Nandini is the Founder and Chief Education Officer of Cedar Hill Preparatory School in Somerset, New Jersey. She also contributes to the broader education and entrepreneurial community through her service on the Board of the NJ Academy of Sciences, the Indian American Women Entrepreneur Association, and as Co-Chair of TiE NJ Next Gen and a committee member of TiE Global Next Gen.

The awardee for excellence in government and public service, Inspector Shibu Madhu, could not attend the ceremony due to a family emergency.  

The ceremony was attended by leaders of several community organizations, including Pioneer Club, Sarga Vedi, INANY, GOPIO, FOMAA, and FOKANA. As part of the Award Ceremony, a souvenir was released by the souvenir committee that consisted of Jose Cheripuram, Jose Kadapuram, and Dr. Teresa Antony, by giving a copy to Susamma Abraham, a Grand Patron of the Center.

The Kerala Center Executive and Board members Raju Thomas, Abraham Thomas, Mathew Vazhappally, and John Paul coordinated the event.  The MC of the program, Daisy Stephen Pallipparambil, impressed everybody with her outstanding performance. Indian classical dances performed by Chandrika Kurup’s Noopura School of Dance made the awards night a colorful one. Associate Secretary Mary Philip concluded the ceremony with a vote of thanks to honored guests, awardees, sponsors, photographers, audience, and everyone who worked so hard to make it a successful event. With dinner catered by Spice Gardens, the 2025 Award Night came to an end.

MUMBAI: UST, a leading AI and technology transformation solutions company, has won two awards at the Indian CSR Awards 2025 in the categories of ‘Most Impactful Save Water Initiative of the Year’ and ‘Education, Health and Livelihood Initiatives for People with Disabilities (PWDs)’. This marks the fourth consecutive year that UST has been recognized at the Indian CSR Awards, underscoring the company’s long-term commitment to community-led, sustainable social impact.

Since its inception in 1999, UST has been driven by its mission of Transforming Lives, implementing 127 projects across nine states and positively impacting over one lakh people. On water conservation efforts, UST has been working on large-scale conservation efforts with local NGOs and communities. In the year 2024-25, it included the rejuvenation of Hettanahalli Lake in Karnataka and Karanaithangal Lake in Tamil Nadu with the Environmentalist Foundation of India, restoring 60 acres and conserving an estimated 170 billion gallons of water. Other notable projects include Project Paryavarna, which restored eight water troughs for wildlife in Coimbatore, along with multiple watershed programs that blend scientific methods with volunteer action to strengthen water security and livelihoods. UST has worked on a total of 6 projects for conserving water bodies across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka in the past 3 years. It is a part of our environmental programs, including tree plantation, coastal area conservation, and forest conservation projects, along with water body rejuvenation initiatives.

UST’s recognition for education, health, and livelihood initiatives for persons with disabilities includes key activities such as the SkillSync vocational program for children on the autism spectrum, the UST-V Able Scholarship Program supporting 167 students with disabilities across six states, and infrastructure upgrades benefitting nearly 170 students at special schools. UST has also supported PWD’s mobility and accessibility with assistive devices such as wheelchairs, transfer hoists, and visual-aid tools. UST CSR’s focus on disability and social inclusion also builds partnerships and collaborations for wider reach and access to the needy communities. These programs have been implemented with the non-profit partners like Vidhyadhan, Academy for Severe Handicaps and Autism RampMyCity Foundation, and Neomotion.

Opening the session, GOPIO International President Prakash Shah, President of GOPIO International, said the event underscored how STEM has powered India’s migration waves and global influence.

“Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math have been a crucial driver of the waves of migration from India to the Western world in the last sixty years,” Shah said. “Originally dubbed the brain drain, this migration has fertilized every Silicon Valley in every Western country.”

He recalled how the phrase “Better brain drain than the brain in the drain” silenced early criticism of the movement of Indian talent. “There is no doubt now that Indian scientists and engineers have played the most crucial role in the technological advances of the last sixty years in every branch of technology,” Shah added.

Dr. Thomas Abraham, GOPIO’s Founder and Chairman, traced the organization’s evolution since 1989 and its mission to connect global Indian professionals with their homeland.

“We have worked to bring the Indian diaspora into mainstream public life and address the issues of our community for thirty-six years,” he said. “Now we are expanding that mission to technology and innovation, building bridges between diaspora scientists, technologists, and entrepreneurs and their counterparts in India.”

Dr Abraham highlighted plans to foster collaboration in advanced computing, AI, nanotechnology, critical minerals, and clean energy. “We want to identify and network diaspora experts in each area so that they can strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem,” he emphasized.

As chair of the GOPIO Webinar Series, Sunil Vuppala welcomed the speakers and audience, describing the event as part of GOPIO’s broader effort to connect the diaspora’s intellectual capital with India’s growth story.

“Each month’s discussion brings forward voices from different parts of the world who are defining the global Indian identity through innovation and excellence,” he said.

Vuppala commended the speakers for representing both academic rigor and entrepreneurial drive. “This is what distinguishes the Indian diaspora — a commitment to knowledge, collaboration, and giving back,” he said.

Director Padhy spoke about India’s scientific transformation and how collaboration with the diaspora can accelerate the achievement of national goals.

“India today is not just a participant but a driver of global technology,” he said. “The synergy between domestic talent and diaspora experience is essential for achieving leadership in clean energy, space research, and digital transformation.”

Padhy emphasized that interdisciplinary research is the foundation of India’s innovation ecosystem. “We must move beyond silos — AI, materials science, and sustainable engineering must come together to meet real human needs,” he added.

Moderating from Australia, Prof. Prasad Yarlagadda, Dean of Science, Engineering, and Digital Technologies, Southern Queensland University, reflected on his four-decade career in advanced manufacturing and nanotechnology.

“By 2035 and 2050, universities may become just hubs of learning,” he said. “They will facilitate rather than deliver education as we know it today.”

He shared his experience leading collaborations with Indian institutions, including the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru and IIT Madras, in energy materials and antibacterial nanotechnologies.

Dr Himanshu Jain, T.L. Diamond Distinguished Chair in Engineering and Applied Science, and Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Lehigh University, and currently on Sabbatical at the University of California (Davis), presented on advanced materials and the critical role of glass in sustainability, clean energy, and healthcare.

“Glass is the oldest man-made material, but its future applications — from photonics to climate change — are transforming industries,” Dr. Jain said.

He outlined innovations such as solar-concentrating glass mirrors, energy-efficient building glazing, and glass composites for wind turbines. “The next frontier,” he added, “is moving from electronics to photonics and even using glass as a controlled-release fertilizer for sustainable agriculture.”

Dr. D.R. Nagaraj, Henry Krumb Professor of Professional Practice, Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering, Columbia University, New York(USA), spoke about “Mines of the Future” and the need for sustainable extraction of critical minerals.

“Minerals are the backbone of civilization — without them, we’d be hunter-gatherers,” Dr Nagaraj said. “Clean energy and technology depend on minerals as much as energy depends on mining.”

Dr. Nagaraj highlighted how 54 critical minerals, including lithium, cobalt, and rare earths, drive global supply chains. He warned of dependence on unstable sources and called for precision mining using AI, robotics, and data analytics. “We cannot have clean energy without mining, and we cannot mine without energy,” he said.

Entrepreneur and public policy leader Bhavini Patel, Executive Director of Sustainable Pittsburgh (USA), discussed the role of Indian American professionals in driving inclusive innovation and civic engagement.

“We often think of technology as code and machines, but at its heart, it’s about people — who build it, who have access to it, and who it benefits,” she said.

Patel emphasized the importance of representation and collaboration among women in tech, business, and public policy. “Our diaspora’s story isn’t just one of success — it’s about building systems that include the next generation of dreamers,” she added.

Melissa Frakman, Investor, CEO & Founding and Managing Partner of EMVC (USA), spotlighted India’s fintech surge and the Diaspora’s role in scaling it globally.

“Beyond capital, our founders need mentorship, networks, and cultural fluency,” she said. “Diaspora venture capital provides all three.”

She emphasized the importance of trust and cross-border experience in building resilient startup ecosystems. “India’s fintech ecosystem is one of the fastest-growing in the world — and it’s stronger when connected to its diaspora roots,” Frakman noted.

Entrepreneur Krishanu Acharya, co-founder and CEO of Delhi-based Suhora Technologies (India), described how his startup uses satellite-based AI analytics for national security, mining, and disaster management.

“We bring space-based surveillance and analytics for critical infrastructure,” he said. “Our India-first platform is export-ready, integrating AI and remote sensing for defense, energy, and disaster resilience.”

He emphasized ethical AI: “We use AI to complement humans, not replace them. Human oversight remains central to every decision.”

Dr. Durga Das, founder and CEO of AiroWater (USA/India), showcased his company’s innovation: producing clean water from atmospheric moisture.

“There’s seven times more water in the air than in the ground, yet we wait for it to rain and dig for it,” she said.

Das explained how his company’s “water from air” devices are addressing water crises in cities like Chennai and Cape Town. “We’re turning air into a sustainable water source,” he noted, calling it “a technology born of necessity and driven by impact.”

The webinar concluded with a call for closer collaboration between global Indian innovators and their counterparts in India. GOPIO leaders reaffirmed their goal of expanding specialized technology councils, creating sectoral networks, and aligning Diaspora innovation with India’s national growth priorities.

“From AI and space to minerals and water, the Indian Diaspora continues to shape the world’s technological destiny,” Dr Abraham said in closing. “GOPIO is committed to being that bridge.”

“This wasn’t just an event — it was a celebration of unity, culture, and community spirit,” said Jassie Parmar, Founder of Desi Junction.

A Festival of Traditions and Togetherness

The day began with Langar Sewa, a complimentary community breakfast, followed by a heartfelt opening ceremony at 10:30 AM. Elders from across India — Delhi, Mumbai, Andhra, and more — symbolically kicked off the festivities, joined by Chaudhary Singh Sahab, an ex-minister from Uttar Pradesh who flew in from India.

“This program unites people from all Indian states, showcasing India’s diversity in America,” Singh Sahab told the cheering crowd.

With free entry, free parking, shuttle service, and free ice cream for kids under five, inclusivity remained at the heart of Summerfest.

Music, Dance, and Patriotic Pride

Cultural performances set the tone. Students of Gandharv Mahavidyalaya North America opened with Kathak and Hindustani classical music, while kids from Payel’s Vocal Studio moved audiences to tears with stirring patriotic songs.

The Dance Dhamaka competition turned the grove into a Bollywood stage, with children and youth dazzling judges like Amit Chakraborty, who recently performed with Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan.

The Saree Fashion Walk drew loud cheers as pageant winners and brand ambassadors — including Sara Bongale (Mrs. Midwest Universe) and Nirali Desai (Miss India Illinois) — showcased elegance and cultural pride. Participants even received complimentary salon treatments, adding a modern touch to the traditional showcase.

CINCINATI, OH: Dr. Hetal Gor, a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist from New Jersey, assumed charge as the Chair, Board of Trustees of AAPI, during the 43^rd annual convention being organized here at the iconic Cincinnati Marriott at RiverCenter and Northern Kentucky Convention Center, Cincinnati, OH on Saturday, July 65, 2025. Dr. Sunil Kaza, the outgoing BOT Chair, during the luncheon meeting as part of the Convention, officially handed over the mantle to Dr. Gor.

“Reflecting on AAPI’s progress over the last year, Dr. Sunil Kaza, the outgoing BOT Chair, said during the luncheon meeting, ‘Start of AAPI 2024-2025 term was like a storm, the likes of which AAPI had never seen before !” Quoting Sadhguru, Dr. Kaza said, “You can learn to prevent the storm, or you can learn to ride the storm! If you can learn how to ride the storm, the storm is not a problem anymore. We decided to ride the storm! We decided to right the ship !” and added, “Despite multiple and significant challenges, together with our EC, BOT, and committee members, we have fulfilled our PROMISES.”

Highlighting some of the major initiatives under his leadership, Dr. Kaza said, “We provided scholarships through the Kakani educational scholarship for 2023-2024 and 2024-2025. For medical students, residents, and fellows, funds were secured and raised to support MSRF and its convention. For young physicians, funding was obtained to support YPS and their convention.”

For AAPI, Dr. Kaza said, “BOT helped address various legal matters. We secured IMRA membership for AAPI and united Indian physicians regardless of their state of origin. We prioritized fiscal responsibility by minimizing social event expenses and ensured AAPI elections followed ethical standards. Collaboration with the Executive Committee maintained transparency and continued a conservative approach to spending.”

Regarding the activities from the US to India, Dr. Kaza referred to an AAPI meeting with India’s Health Minister, Mr. JP Nada, to discuss improvements in emergency medicine care, including expanding education and increasing the availability of EMT technicians. Discussions also focused on increasing residency seats in family and emergency medicine.

During his leadership, he said, AAPI sponsored research awards for GAIMS, supported its peer-reviewed journal, collaborated to promote HPV vaccination awareness and raise $45,000 for health and education initiatives in India, began work on the AAPI Global Foundation, raised $31,000 to support 62 tribal schools through Ekal Vidyalaya, and worked to obtain FCRA exemption for future charitable activities via the AAPI India Foundation.

Dr. Hetal Gor is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist, is the president/Founder of Bergen Indian Medical Association, President /Founder of US chapter of FOGSI (Federation of OBGYN Society of India, and had served as the past President of the American Association of OBGYN of Indian Origin. Dr Gor is the Chair of the North NJ chapter of the Indian American Women Entrepreneurs Association, and serves on the Board of Trustees of Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ, where she brings Indian art and artists to showcase Indian Heritage.

Dr. Gor shared with the audience her ten-year journey in AAPI, from co-Chair of the NYC Convention in 2016 to the chairwoman of the AAPI BOT. Dr.Gor described her plans for AAPI as the new Chair -Her plans in collaboration with the new Executive Committee led by Dr. Amit Chakrabarty.

“One thing that I’m very passionate about is knowledge, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, so starting this year a medical Legal monthly Zoom webinars, this  will be in collaboration with SABA -South Asian Bar Association.”

Integrative medical wellness is another area Dr. Gor wants to focus on, she said. “This will help us have work-life balance, tackle physician burnout, and create a demanding, stressful work environment,” said Dr. Gor

“A well-balanced person is a better physician,” Dr. Gor said. Another area where AAPI plans to engage is organizing free health fairs and lecture sessions, educating the general public on common health issues that impact our communities.

“This year, we plan to implement and continue with the mentorship mentee program, guiding the junior physicians, medical student residents, alongside working with AMA,” Dr. Gor said. She promised financial stability, transparency, integrity, and hard work. “So, we’re going to make it a fun, entertaining, stress-free environment with positive vibrations, and everybody will be part of it.”

Dr. Satheesh Kathula, the outgoing President of AAPI lauded the support and guidance he received from Dr. Kaza and other members of the BOT, including the incoming BOT Chair, Dr. Gor. Expressing his gratitude to AAPI’s executive committee members, including  AAPI’s Convention committee chairs and members, volunteers and sponsors for their continued dedication and visionary leadership in their efforts to make this convention truly a historic one for all, Dr. Kathula, said. “The organizing committees have been working hard to make the AAPI Convention of 2025 rewarding and memorable for all.”

Announcing the recipients of the prestigious AAPI Service Awards, Dr. Uma Jonnalagadda said,  “AAPI is glad to recognize and honor your accomplishments, hard work, dedication, and  contributions to the cause of AAPI.”

Dr. Navin Nanda, Dr. P.K. Vedantham, Dr. Krishan Kumarm, Dr. Jagdish Gupta, Dr. Ravi Parikh, and Dr. Avi Singh Gandhi were honored with the prestigious AAPI awards at the luncheon event. 

Dr. Sudhir Parikh, CEO of Parikh Media, shared with the audience his vision to share our heritage with the next generation of Indian origin people through his media platforms. He assured the audience of his collaboration and support for AAPI in reaching its message across the Indian American community. “It’s been an honor and privilege for me to be associated with AAPI because I recognize the tremendous role that is being played by AAPI in promoting friendship between India and the United States,” he said.

In his keynote address, Aftab Pureval shared with the audience his life story as a child born to refugees from the Himalayas in the United States. “I’m the son of a refugee. My mom was born in Tibet, and she was forced to flee when the Communists took over. So my mom and my grandparents picked up, made their way through the Himalayas, through Nepal, and into India. Against all odds, she made it to college by the grace of the support and generosity of the Indian government, where she met my father, who’s from Punjab, India. The young couple got married and decided to come to the United States.”

Pureval went on to add, “I’m proud of my parents’ story, and proud of the fact that the generations that came before you had to struggle and progress to create community. Had to take racism and xenophobia head-on and nevertheless create community, whether it be religious or cultural, or professional, to continue to thrive and grow in this country. My parents loved America even before they themselves were Americans. They loved the idea of the American dream, and they came here hard, and they achieved that dream for themselves, but also their kids.”

Referring to the flourishing community of Indian Americans, Pureval said, “Our community is so drawn to healthcare, so drawn to helping others, so drawn to public service, so drawn to supporting the most vulnerable in our community. And it’s because of Trailblazers like you that next generations like me and my brother can pursue our dreams in whatever field that may be. Congratulations, everybody, so excited for you to choose Cincinnati, and I hope you have a wonderful conference.”

The growing influence of doctors of Indian heritage is evident, as increasingly physicians of Indian origin hold critical positions in healthcare, academia, research, and administrative positions across the nation. With their hard work, dedication, compassion, and skills, they have thus carved an enviable niche in the American medical community. AAPI’s role has come to be recognized as vital among members and lawmakers. AAPI is also transitioning into a multiyear thinking and behavior by maintaining core continuity.

With more than 30,000 of the world’s top technical experts representing 140 countries, ASTM practices support industries and governments worldwide. Being awarded the ASTM Award of Merit, the highest society award granted to an individual member, is a rare honor, accompanied by the title ASTM Fellow.  Dr. Shah was overwhelmed and humbled to receive this honor from his peers, and he thanked his mentors, his company, and his family for all their support. He reminisced on his 30-year journey, talking about his first ASTM meeting as a rookie and now being presented with this honor 60 meetings later, and offered words of appreciation to his colleagues and mentors who helped him these last 3 decades.

Dr. Raj Shah currently serves as the Director at Koehler Instrument Company in Holtsville, NY. He was earlier felicitated as a Fellow of the American Oil Chemists Society. AOCS’ mission is to advance the science and technology of oils, fats, proteins, surfactants, and related materials, thus enriching the lives of people everywhere. The AOCS Fellow Award recognizes achievements in science and those who have made exceptional achievements in their field and their profession, including areas of research, industrial achievement, leadership, and education. It is one of the highest and most prestigious AOCS awards, and Dr. Shah was awarded the Fellow medal and plaque at the annual meeting in Montreal.

At the NLGI International meeting, Dr. Raj Shah was felicitated with two prestigious awards by his peers. NLGI is a professional society that, primarily composed of companies that manufacture and market all types of lubricating greases and companies that work closely with these organizations. Membership is by company rather than by individual and is selective. Along with grease and oil manufacturers are companies that serve them with equipment, supplies, and services, such as Koehler Instrument Company, which has served on NLGI ‘s board for over 30 years.  The Institute is one of the largest organizations for grease manufacturers worldwide and has been around for over 70 years.

Dr. Shah was awarded the Clarence E. Earle Memorial Award at the annual meeting This prestigious honor was in recognition for his outstanding contribution to the technical literature relating to lubricating greases during the year, especially the Grease guidebook that Bill Tuszynski and he edited which will serve as the handbook for the grease industry for many years to come.

In addition, he, along with the authors in the new grease handbook, was also awarded the Golden Grease Gun Award, which acknowledges his valuable work within the Grease Industry in the development of grease technology, manufacturing, testing, application,s and better understanding of grease behavior or the promotion of grease usage. These two honors put together have never been given to the same individual in the same year before this annual meeting. Becoming a recipient of the Clarence Earle Memorial Award is an unparalleled honor, and when Dr. Shah was awarded the award, he said he was extremely humbled to be chosen along with his esteemed colleague, Mr. Tuszynski. A few months back, Dr. Shah was honored by his elevation to a Fellow position at the IOP. The Institute of Physics (IOP) is one of the world’s largest professional bodies and learned societies for physics, inspiring people to develop their knowledge, understanding, and enjoyment of physics, headquartered in London.

The great challenges we face in the years to come, such as climate change and developing clean energy, are international in scope, and physics is the key to a lot of these societal problems. International collaboration is essential to tackling them; no individual country can solve them alone, and physicists have a fundamental role in leading the development of technologies to address these problems. The IOP has international reach and global connections, but is independent of government or any academic institution or business. This enables them to bring together scientists and organizations from around the world, building the cross-border links that fuel scientific discovery and technological innovation.

This honor for Dr. Raj Shah comes right after his recent elevation as a Fellow at the Institute of Chemical Engineers. The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) is a world-class professional society in its own right, a multi-national institution that advances chemical engineering’s contribution worldwide for the benefit of society. They have over 35,000 members in more than 100 countries and are the leading professional society for Chemical engineers in the world. IChemE applies its expertise and experience to make an influential contribution to solving major global challenges. To be elevated to a Fellow at IChemE is considered the pinnacle in any Chemical engineer’s career. Dr. Shah was inducted as a Fellow into this Society recently, and when contacted by us at that time, he was extremely grateful and said he accepted this honor with great humility on behalf of his colleagues and his family.

This year, Dr. Shah was also selected as an eminent engineer into Tau Beta Pi the oldest engineering honor society in the United States, which has over 600,000 members at 254 colleges and universities across the country an eminent engineer status is rare and is afforded only to one with remarkable and outstanding performance in their chosen engineering field as well as exemplary character. An extensive and significant contribution to the field of engineering is what got Dr. Shah this honor

Dr. Shah also received another accolade this year by being elevated as a Fellow at the Institute of Measurement and Control, an organization very familiar to the readers of Petro industry news

The Institute of Measurement and Control is recognized by the Royal Charter as the professional body for scientists and engineers working in measurement, automation, and control. Founded in 1944, its members’ original priority was to maintain the national infrastructure and support wartime logistics. During the post-war reconstruction years, attention shifted to developing new major infrastructure programs, including nuclear power, oil and gas, the transport network, and major industrial and chemical facilities. Dr. Shah was inducted into its hall of Fellows (its highest honor) this week. Currently, the members of INSTMC are still involved in all the above areas, but the digital age has opened a new sphere of involvement in the area of sensors linked to intelligence.  This includes the Internet of Things, cybersecurity, smart cities and transport networks, driverless cars, personal health monitoring, and astronomical exploration. It is indeed a very unique and singular honor for Dr. Shah to be honored as a fellow by this prestigious institute.

Dr. Shah is no stranger to distinction. He has been named a Fellow at the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, which boasts such historical members as Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, and Albert Einstein.

The Royal Society of Chemistry has over 54,000 members and is one of the largest professional bodies for chemical scientists, supporting and representing our members and bringing together chemical scientists from all over the world. The Royal Society of Chemistry was founded in 1841 and incorporated by a royal charter in 1848, and its main patron is Her Majesty the Queen of England. A not-for-profit organization with a heritage that spans 175 years, The Royal Society of Chemistry has an ambitious international vision for the future. Around the world, they invest in educating future generations of scientists and partner with industry and academia, promoting collaboration and innovation. The Royal Society of Chemistry also advises governments on policy and promotes the talent, information, and ideas that lead to great advances in science.

Dr. Shah was also honored recently as well, by the Energy Institute with the title of a Chartered Petroleum Engineer. The Energy Institute (EI) is the largest professional membership body that brings global energy expertise together. The global energy industry, the people working in it, and wider society all benefit from the EI’s work. Election to the status of a chartered petroleum engineer so far has been limited to just 7 people in the United States. Dr. Shah is the first Indian American engineer to be conferred this honor.

Dr. Raj Shah is widely recognized worldwide for his contributions to the field of Fuels, Lubricants, and Greases. His specialization is in the development of laboratory analytical instrumentation used primarily in the petroleum laboratory. He has been recognized for his inventions and his efforts in creating standardized test methods for use worldwide by the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM International) with three awards of Excellence and an ASTM Eagle award (a sui generis distinction).  He is the currently the Director at Koehler Instrument Company, Inc. based in Holtsville, NY and he currently serves, or has served on the Board of Directors/ Advisors of various institutions such as the Department of Material science and Chemical Engineering, State University of New York, Stony Brook, NY, Farmingdale College ( Mechanical Technology ) , in Long Island NY,  Technology Management graduate program at SUNY Farmingdale,  Tribology Minor in engineering at Auburn University, the Foundation Board at Developmental Disabilities Institute in  Smithtown, NY until 2009, and he served on the board of directors of the National Lubricating Grease institute for almost 2 decades. With over 675 publications in journals worldwide, he is also an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering at State University of New York, Stony Brook, NY. Dr. Shah is now an elected Fellow at STLE, IOP, CMI, NLGI, AIC, RSC, InstMC, IChemE, and EI, a singular honor that is indeed unprecedented worldwide. In addition to a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University, he also has a Fellow designation from the Chartered Management Institute in London. A recipient of multiple awards at ASTM over his career, more recently, he was awarded the PM Ku medal (the youngest recipient of this medal) from STLE and the prestigious John A. Bellanti Sr. Memorial Award from NLGI as well.

Dr. Shah has also been conferred the distinguished alumni award from the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (ICT).  In conferring him this honor ICT Mumbai, stated “Dr. Raj Shah, a professional par excellence due to his high degree of integrity, commitment and professionalism has been responsible for the high esteem in which his alma mater, the Institute of Chemical Technology is recognized “More recently National Certification Commission in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in Washington, DC honored Dr. Raj Shah with inducting him as a Certified professional chemist and Certified Chemical engineer.

Dr. Shah is also an elected Chartered Engineer from the Engineering Council in the UK, a Chartered Chemist from the Royal Society of Chemistry, and a Chartered Scientist from the Science Council; all of these combined are exceptional honors within the scientific community. Dr. Shah is the only person in the chemical industry worldwide who now holds all 6 of these elected certifications, namely CPC, CCHE, CEng, CSci, CChem, CPEng)

Dr. Shah’s other interests include kayaking, mentoring engineering students, and mobile photography. He lives currently in Long Island, NY, with his wife of 28 years, Dr. Niloufar Farid, and their son Kian. They are active in the special needs community, and they enjoy participating in various Indian American philanthropic community events

BOSTON: TiE Boston, one of the region’s most influential business organizations supporting entrepreneurship, today announced the appointment of veteran international educator and nonprofit leader Chris Sauer as its new Executive Director.

With more than three decades of global experience in education, program development, and international partnership-building, Mr. Sauer brings a dynamic leadership perspective to the non-profit organization.

In his new role, Mr. Sauer will oversee TiE Boston’s day-to-day operations, lead the implementation of strategic initiatives, manage programming and partnerships, and support the organization’s mission to foster entrepreneurship through mentorship, education, networking, and funding. He will work closely with the TiE Boston Board, sponsors, and members to drive innovation and community engagement.

He has designed and led international pathway programs and higher education partnerships in Malaysia, India, China, Vietnam, the Caribbean, Central America, and the Middle East, with a strong focus on student access and success.
