Highlights from the Massive Recruitment Drive at ITI Aundh, Pune

PUNE: The strategic workforce partnership between India and Israel has entered an exciting new phase as thousands of skilled Indian workers flock to ITI Aundh, Pune, for the second round of a ground-breaking recruitment initiative.

This drive, which commenced on September 17 and will run through September 25, 2024, marks a significant milestone in international labour cooperation.

A delegation of 12 Israeli officials arrived in India on September 16 to oversee this ambitious recruitment effort. Their presence underscores the importance of this initiative, which aims to fulfill Israel’s growing demand for skilled construction workers while offering Indian talent unprecedented international career opportunities.

The current phase of recruitment builds upon the resounding success of the initial drive conducted earlier this year in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana. To date, approximately 4,800 Indian workers have already been deployed to Israel, earning competitive salaries of around Rs 1.32 lakh per month and a monthly bonus of Rs 16,000. An additional 1,500 workers from the first cohort began their journey to Israel on September 18, 2024, bringing the total number of skilled Indian professionals in Israel to over 5,000.

Encouraged by these positive outcomes, Israeli employers have expanded their recruitment targets, seeking an additional 10,000 candidates in this round. The focus remains on four critical areas of expertise: Framework, Iron Bending, Plastering, and Ceramic Tiling.

This initiative is the fruit of a landmark Government-to-Government (G2G) agreement signed between India and Israel in November 2023. The Maharashtra Government has shown its full support behind the program, providing crucial infrastructure and logistical support at ITI Aundh. Deputy Director and in-charge Joint Director Ramakant Bhavsar, along with his team, are spearheading the recruitment efforts at the institute.

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) plays a pivotal role in this process, ensuring that India’s skilling programs align with global employment demands. Their tireless efforts guarantee that candidates are well-prepared for the technical and professional challenges they will face in Israel.

This recruitment drive represents a significant step in India’s journey to become a global supplier of high-quality human resources. It showcases the nation’s commitment to enhancing employment opportunities for its workforce in international markets, particularly in countries that value Indian expertise in labour-intensive industries.

As this initiative continues to gather momentum, it sets a powerful precedent for international labour mobility and demonstrates the mutual benefits of collaborative partnerships between nations. The success of this program is expected to pave the way for many more such international placement opportunities in the future, further cementing India’s position as a key player in the global skilled workforce arena.

BANJUL, GAMBIA: The 15th Islamic Summit Conference of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) (www.new.OIC-oci.org) commenced its deliberation in Banjul, the capital of The Gambia, in the presence of their Majesties, Excellencies, and Highnesses, heads of states, and governments of the OIC member States, and high-level dignitaries from non-member states.

The summit is being held under the theme: ‘Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development’, from 4 to 5 May 2024.

The session was addressed by the chair of the 15th Islamic Summit, President of The Gambia, H. E. Adama Barrow, who, as the Chairman of the OIC Summit, stressed that he pledged to promote unity, solidarity, and sustainable development within the Islamic world. He added that his approach will include prioritizing initiatives that enhance economic cooperation, foster cultural exchange, and address pressing issues, such as poverty and access to education and healthcare.

The 15th Islamic summit is being held in light of the dangerous and unprecedented developments taking place in the Palestinian cause, especially the crimes of the brutal Israeli military aggression against the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip.

The Secretary-General emphasized that the Palestinian cause remains the OIC’s central issue and urged the member states to redouble efforts to mobilize the responsibility of the international community toward stopping the aggression and genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, including Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

H. E. Hissein Taha called on the OIC Member States to continue to mobilize international support for the recognition of the State of Palestine and help it attain full membership in the United Nations.

He announced the establishment of a media observatory at the OIC General Secretariat to document and highlight, within the media, the numbers of martyrs, wounded, detainees, and various crimes of the Israeli occupation. The OIC is also concurrently working towards activating the Legal Observatory to document Israeli crimes, in line with the decision of the recent Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh.

Furthermore, the Secretary-General reaffirmed the OIC’s commitment to addressing pressing political and humanitarian challenges facing the OIC Member States. He emphasized that the right to self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir remains a priority for the OIC.

On Afghanistan, the OIC Secretary-General noted that the organization continued its engagement within the framework of its humanitarian approach and constructive dialogue with the de facto authority in Afghanistan.

He urged the member states to contribute generously to the OIC humanitarian efforts, particularly in Afghanistan, through the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund (AHTF) under the supervision and management of the Islamic Development Bank.

Recognizing the importance of dialogue and reconciliation, The Secretary-General emphasized the OIC’s support for conflict resolution in Member States such as Yemen, Libya, Sudan, and the Sahel region.

The Secretary-General Stressed that OIC continues to support the sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan over its entire territory as well as for the unity, sovereignty, and security of the Federal Republic of Somalia, in addition to its solidarity with Turkish Cypriot Muslims, alongside cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo.

H. E. Hissein Taha, salutes the vanguard role played by The Gambia, in defending the Cause of the Rohingya Muslim community before the International Court of Justice and calls on Member States to contribute to the financial costs required for this matter, which has recorded significant achievements. He also reiterates deep gratitude to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and other Member States for welcoming the Rohingya refugees.

In the field of humanitarian action, the Secretary-General Highlighted that the General Secretariat and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are currently working to coordinate the arrangements for organizing the Donors Conference for the Sahel region and the Lake Chad Basin for the mobilization of adequate resources to support refugees and displaced people.

The 15th Islamic Summit Conference was also addressed by H. E. the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, chair of the previous 14th Summit H. H.
WASHINGTON: Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) issued an alert related to the financing of Israeli extremist settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. The alert provides select red flags to assist U.S. financial institutions in identifying and reporting suspicious activity that finances such violence.

“Financial institutions can play a critical role in detecting and reporting potential suspicious activity related to the financing of Israeli extremist settler violence,” said FinCEN Director Andrea Gacki. “The U.S. financial system should be protected from those who seek to support or perpetrate violence and bring further instability to the West Bank.”

While the alert highlights the potential involvement of certain nonprofit organizations (NPOs) in facilitating payments to fund violence in the West Bank, FinCEN continues to emphasize that legitimate charities should have access to financial services and can transmit funds through legitimate and transparent channels. FinCEN is also reminding financial institutions to apply a risk-based approach to Customer Due Diligence (CDD) requirements when developing the risk profiles of charities and other non-profit customers. No specific customer types, including charities and NPOs, automatically present a higher risk of illicit activity. Additionally, as no single red flag is necessarily indicative of illicit or suspicious activity, U.S. financial institutions are encouraged to consider all the surrounding facts and circumstances before determining whether a specific transaction is suspicious or associated with potential Israeli violent extremist groups or campaigns.

Finally, through the alert, Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is highlighting for members of the public that under the Executive Order of February 1, 2024, “Imposing Certain Sanctions on Persons Undermining Peace, Security, and Stability in the West Bank,” the U.S. government is authorized to impose sanctions on foreign persons that are responsible for or complicit in, or have directly or indirectly engaged or attempted to engage in (1) actions that threaten the peace, security, or stability of the West Bank; or (2) planning, ordering, otherwise directing, or participating in specified actions affecting the West Bank, such as violence targeting civilians and property destruction. The United States seeks to impose tangible and significant consequences on those engaged in such activities, as well as to protect the U.S. financial system from abuse.
