BENGALURU: Aster RV Hospital successfully performed the first robotic-assisted revision total knee replacement surgery in Karnataka, positioning itself among the pioneering centers in India with this advanced capability. Unlike a standard primary knee replacement, revision surgery involves the intricate challenge of dealing with pre-existing implants, substantial bone loss, and altered knee anatomy. The CORI robotic system played a critical role, allowing surgeons to perform the procedure with millimetre accuracy by generating a highly precise 3D mapping of the joint.

Dr. J V Srinivas, Lead Senior Consultant – Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement, said, “This technology uniquely benefits revision surgery by enabling the surgeon to take the minimum bone cuts necessary to fit the new implant, preserving vital bone stock that is often already compromised in such cases. Conventional surgery typically requires a fixed amount of bone removal, which may not be ideal for complex revision scenarios. The precision and customization afforded by the CORI system mark a significant advancement in orthopedic care, translating into better alignment, improved joint function, and potentially longer implant longevity.”

For surgeons, the use of robotics provides a significant advantage through real-time 3D imaging, allowing detailed surgical planning and precise intraoperative guidance. This technology helps ensure accurate bone cuts and optimal implant positioning, which are critical factors in reducing risks such as misalignment and instability. For patients, this translates to a more natural knee movement, less postoperative pain, and a faster, smoother recovery experience, ultimately improving their overall outcome and quality of life.

Dr. J V Srinivas further added, “Robotic-assisted revision knee replacement is a game changer in managing complex cases where preserving bone and achieving precise implant positioning are critical. This technology not only improves surgical outcomes but also offers patients a better quality of life post-surgery.”

Madhuri Misal, Minister of State for Urban Development inaugurates ‘Nav Taz Dham’, an old age home near Talegaon MIDC

TALEGAON: In the past few decades with urbanization and changes in living culture or traditions we have witnessed a shift from a joint family culture to a nuclear family. As the joint family culture offers many benefits, the time has come to return to this age-old family system in India. Moreover, we must attempt to create awareness amongst the youngsters about the importance and benefits of the joint family culture, opined Madhuri Misal, Minister of State for Urban Development, Government of Maharashtra. She was talking at a function organized to mark the inauguration of Nav Taz Dham, an old age home with good facilities at Ambi Village Near Talegaon MIDC.

Maval MP Shrirang Barne, Fatechand Ranka, Chairman of the Lions Club of Poona Sarasbaug Charitable Trust, Rukhsshana and Meher Anklesaria, the couple who donated Rs.4.5 Cr (Four Crore Fifty Lakhs) for building the Nav Taz Dham, Sudhir Naik who donated his land for the project, Ambadas Chavan from Caring Hands Organization were present on the occasion along with Prashant Kothadiya, Yogesh Shah, Asha Oswal, Chaitali Patni, Aniiket Aaghaaw and Chetak Gugale from the Lions Club of Poona Sarasbaug.

“It’s not that all children run away from their responsibility of taking care of their aging parents. In many cases, they are away due to jobs or education. In such a case, children find it appropriate to keep their parents at old age homes which are safe and caregiving. So, old age homes are becoming the need of the hour“, Misal added.

Maval MP Shrirang Barne said, “I am against the Old Age Home culture. I always feel that parents make a lot of effort to raise their children to the best of their abilities. So, it is the responsibility of children to take care of their parents in their old age. However, now the situation is changing and many times children have to live away from their parents for various reasons. So, the need for good old age homes is increasing day by day. The central and the state government are extending a helping hand to the senior citizens through various welfare schemes in terms of addressing issues related to their health and well-being and pension.”

While sharing the information about the Nav Taz Dham project Fatechand Ranka said that this Nav Taz Dham has been created with the objective that senior citizens can joyfully lead their lives with best-in-class facilities and care being offered to them. ‘Nav Taz Dham’ addresses the growing need for quality senior care as many elderly individuals face loneliness due to their children relocating to the city of their job or business. The center ensures a holistic environment with modern medical tie-ups, 24/7 hot water, wellness programs, yoga, cultural celebrations, and social activities. Residents can engage in gardening, music, art, and community service while receiving professional healthcare support. A portion of the fees collected will support underprivileged children’s education and welfare, reinforcing the trust’s commitment to social responsibility.

F N Ranka made the introductory speech while Tushar Mehta and Julie Patwa played the anchors for the event.

Groundbreaking Procedure Offers Unmatched Precision and Improved Patient Outcomes

PUNE: Sahyadri Hospitals proudly announces a groundbreaking achievement in orthopedic surgery with the successful completion of Pune’s first robotic-assisted hip replacement using the direct anterior approach. The procedure was performed on Mr. Dnyaneshrao Pradhan (name changed), a 65-year-old retired resident of Satara, diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of the hip, a condition where bone tissue in the hip deteriorates due to a lack of blood supply.

Under the expert care of Dr. Abhijit Agashe, Consultant Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon at Sahyadri Hospitals, the surgery was conducted on November 27, 2024, and Mr. Pradhan was discharged on December 2, 2024, reporting excellent post-operative progress. The use of the real intelligence robotic system combined with the direct anterior approach has set a new standard in the field, providing unparalleled precision and safety.

Dr. Abhijit Agashe commented on the benefits of this revolutionary technique, stating, “Compared to traditional hip replacement methods, the robotic-assisted direct anterior approach enables a more accurate and less invasive surgery. Patients benefit from reduced pain, quicker recovery times, and more natural movement post-surgery. This technology enables patients to sit cross-legged after surgery, a position essential for cultural practices and daily activities, making it particularly beneficial for those suffering from hip problems. This method has not only enhanced functional outcomes but has also allowed immediate postoperative mobility, significantly improving the quality of life for patients with AVN Hip.”

Dr. Agashe further highlighted, “The combination of the robotic system and the direct anterior approach represents a significant advancement in joint replacement surgery. The ability to feed preoperative data into the robotic system ensures each patient receives a customized surgery plan tailored to their specific anatomy, achieving perfect alignment and leg length with millimeter precision.”

Sahyadri Hospitals remains committed to adopting innovative technologies and methods to enhance healthcare outcomes. This successful procedure marks a promising step towards making robotic-assisted surgeries the new standard in hip replacements.

UNITED STATES: The 50 members of the CRI, including the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia, met in Washington, D.C. for the third convening of the initiative. During the meeting, members reaffirmed their commitment to working together to combat ransomware threats and hold perpetrators accountable.

The CRI’s Policy Pillar led efforts to counter the business model that underpins the ransomware ecosystem. This included research on cyber insurance, victim behavior, seizure and confiscation of virtual assets, ransom payments, and best practices in incident reporting and information sharing.

The Diplomacy and Capacity Building Pillar expanded the CRI’s like-minded umbrella by adding 13 new members to the coalition. The pillar also prioritized opportunities to inform potential new members about the initiative and developed tailored capacity-building opportunities to match members’ needs and requests.

The International Counter Ransomware Task Force (ICRTF), established at last year’s meeting, began developing platforms for coordinating and disrupting ransomware at an operational level. The ICRTF will continue to build upon the successes of its inaugural year by operationalizing the tools and platforms developed by its members.

The CRI’s joint policy statement declares that member governments should not pay ransoms. The initiative also created a shared blacklist of wallets through the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s pledge to share data on illicit wallets used by ransomware actors with all CRI members.

The CRI provides an opportunity to create long-term cooperative approaches and common understandings of accountability in cyberspace, consistent with international law as well as state actions as embodied in the Framework for Responsible State Behavior in Cyberspace, endorsed by all United Nations member states.

Overall, the CRI’s joint statement highlights the importance of international cooperation in combating ransomware threats and building collective resilience against future attacks.
