The Catalan club will play in the top UEFA competition next term, just three seasons after they were playing at LALIGA HYPERMOTION level.

SPAIN: Girona FC is a Champions League team. And, for most fans of Los Blanquivermells, it still hasn’t sunk in yet that the biggest clubs from across Europe will be visiting the Estadi Montilivi next season. Not only has the club qualified for Europe for the first time in their 94-year history, but they’ve done so at the highest level of UEFA competition.

By putting on a show in the second half against FC Barcelona on Saturday, defeating their regional neighbors 4-2 for the second time this season, Míchel’s side have achieved an objective that they only set mid-way through the season. Even when they started with six wins and one draw from their first seven matches of the season, the coach kept insisting that the primary objective was avoiding relegation. Only in January did he admit that making it into Europe had become a target too.

After the achievement was confirmed on Saturday, the coach spoke to the media about how much this means to the club, stating: “What we have achieved this year is incredible. It’s historic. It’s a wonderful thing. The project is great. We’ve been able to work and grow day by day. We’ve been working in a calm yet demanding way and with a squad of players who want to grow. That’s how we’ve gone from the second tier to the Champions League, and deservedly so. I hope everyone enjoys it.”

The fans certainly did enjoy it, with 14,000 celebrating the victory in the stands of the Estadi Montilivi and many more taking to the streets of the city center on Saturday night to rejoice on arguably the greatest night in Girona FC’s history.

From LALIGA HYPERMOTION in 2021/22 to the Champions League in 2024/25

As Míchel pointed out during his speech, it wasn’t all that long ago that this was a team in the second division. It was only in 2021/22 that Los Blanquivermells finished sixth in LALIGA HYPERMOTION under Míchel and achieved promotion through the playoffs. Playing an ambitious and direct brand of football, they then took LALIGA EA SPORTS by storm last season before ultimately finishing 10th, matching the club’s previous highest finish in the top tier.

Then, in 2023/24, Girona FC stepped up and reached the next level. The spine of the team remained the same, with the likes of Paulo Gazzaniga, David López, Aleix García, and Yangel Herrera. But, the new additions significantly improved the squad, even at a low cost.

In central defense, the veteran Daley Blind arrived on a free transfer to bring his experience to the back line, while Eric García arrived on loan from FC Barcelona to add another skilled passer at the back.

In midfield, the low-cost signings of Iván Martín and Portu proved to be extremely astute, as both players could play in several different positions in the middle and could get forward in attack, with Martín scoring five goals and Portu seven, including two in the win against Barça.

Then, there was the arrival of Artem Dovbyk, arguably the best transfer in all of LALIGA EA SPORTS last summer when looking at value for money. The Ukrainian striker has reached 20 goals and is the division’s top scorer, and has made everyone forget about the departure of Taty Castellanos, the Catalan side’s top scorer last season. With the Brazilian winger Sávio also coming in last summer, scoring eight goals and assisting nine alongside Dovbyk in attack, Girona FC’s summer 2023 recruitment was something special, and sporting director Quique Cárcel deserves every bit of praise.

Coach Míchel also deserves to bask in the glory of this masterpiece, as he has not only built a successful team but he has built an entertaining one too. Girona FC is scoring 2.15 goals per game this season and always plays on the front foot. This hasn’t been achieved by any sort of rigid system, as Míchel has used many different formations throughout the season, from a 4-1-4-1 to a 4-2-3-1 to a 3-4-3. Even with Girona FC having suffered many injuries along the way, the tactician has been flexible and has adapted, always finding solutions and achieving positive results.

At home, they’ve been particularly impressive and have won 14, drawn two, and lost one from their 17 games so far at the Estadi Montilivi, scoring 46 goals too, which is the most of any home side in the competition. The Girona FC faithful have had a lot to cheer about, then, and the biggest cheers of all came at full-time on Saturday when this modest club became a Champions League team for the first time.

What has been going on in LALIGA this past week? Here are 10 of the top stories, from Real Madrid’s title celebrations to Girona FC’s Champions League qualification.

The results of Matchday 34 of LALIGA EA SPORTS meant several teams could start celebrating already, such as Real Madrid for winning the title or Girona FC for qualifying for the Champions League. Here’s all you need to know

Real Madrid, LALIGA EA SPORTS champions

The results in Matchday 34 mathematically confirmed Real Madrid as champions of the 2023/24 LALIGA EA SPORTS season. Carlo Ancelotti’s side defeated Cádiz CF 3-0 at the Bernabéu to move on to 87 points, a tally none of their challengers can match. It is the 36th time the capital city institution has won Spanish football’s top flight.

Girona FC will play in the Champions League next season

Girona FC also had a lot to celebrate this weekend, as they clinched the club’s first-ever Champions League qualification with a 4-2 victory over Catalan neighbors FC Barcelona. That result means Míchel’s side will play in Europe’s top club competition next campaign, and Los Blanquivermells are currently in second place and on course for Spanish Super Cup qualification too.

Isco, April Player of the Month

For the first time in his career, Isco has been named as the LALIGA EA SPORTS Player of the Month, with the Real Betis playmaker winning for his excellent performances throughout April. As well as scoring a goal in ELGRAN DERBI and assisting one in a victory over RC Celta, Isco consistently drove his team forward and has been recognized with this individual honor.

The rest of the LALIGA AWARDS winners for April

The other winners of the ‘LALIGA AWARDS, The Pride of our Fútbol’ were also revealed this past week. The Best Coach for April was Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti, the Best U-23 Player was Girona FC’s Miguel Gutiérrez, the Best Goal was FC Barcelona forward João Félix’s overhead kick against Cádiz CF and the Best Play was the goal Real Betis scored against RC Celta when Isco assisted Nabil Fekir.

CA Osasuna, Sevilla FC and Deportivo Alavés are staying up

As the end of the season approaches, several clubs in the bottom half of the table have already secured their place in the top division for next season. Following the Matchday 34 results, CA Osasuna, Sevilla FC, and Deportivo Alavés are now mathematically safe.

RC Celta takes a big step toward safety

They’re not safe yet, but RC Celta took a big step towards avoiding relegation this past weekend. The Galician side edged a thrilling game against Villarreal CF, winning 3-2 to mean they’re now eight points ahead of 18th-placed Cádiz CF. The Galician side has even moved ahead of Rayo Vallecano and RC Mallorca, currently sitting 15th.

Unai Simón earns another clean sheet

Athletic Club earned a 2-0 victory away at Getafe CF to keep their chances of earning Champions League qualification alive, and they even did so despite receiving two red cards in the game. The clean sheet was also important for goalkeeper Unai Simón, as he is closing in on the Zamora Trophy. His record of 0.94 goals conceded per game is the best in LALIGA EA SPORTS among eligible players.

Dovbyk remains top of the Pichichi standings

As for the individual prize for the best goalscorer, Girona FC’s No.9 Artem Dovbyk remains the leader as he moved on to 20 goals with his effort against FC Barcelona on Saturday. Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham is his closest pursuer and also scored in Matchday 34, meaning the Englishman has 18 goals.

Thibaut Courtois makes his long-awaited return

There was another reason for Real Madrid fans to celebrate this week, besides becoming LALIGA EA SPORTS champions. And, that was the return of Thibaut Courtois from injury. The Belgian started against Cádiz CF on Saturday for his first minutes of the 2023/24 campaign, having recovered from a pair of serious knee injuries.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich will be decided at the Bernabéu

The first legs of the Champions League semi-finals took place last week and Real Madrid traveled to Germany to play out an enthralling 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich, with Vinícius scoring both of Los Blancos’ goals. That first-leg result means the tie will be decided in the second leg at the Bernabéu on Wednesday.

MADRID: LALIGA EA SPORTS has a new champion: Real Madrid. Los Blancos secured the 36th league title in club history – more than any other club in LALIGA history, ahead of arch-rivals FC Barcelona (27) – thanks to a 3-0 win over Cádiz CF at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday afternoon, coupled with FC Barcelona’s 4-2 loss at Girona FC, a result which also happened to secure a Champions League spot next season for Michel’s side.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have lost just once in LALIGA EA SPORTS all season – a 3-1 Madrid Derby loss to Atlético de Madrid way back in September – and are unbeaten all season at their home Santiago Bernabeu stadium. Today it never looked as though that streak was in doubt, as goals from Brahim Diaz, Jude Bellingham, and Joselu saw them ease to a win over relegation-threatened Cádiz CF, and move 13 points clear of Girona FC and 14 clear of FC Barcelona with just 12 left to play for.

“LALIGA has been spectacular this season and we have hardly slipped up,” said coach Ancelotti after the match, before his side were mathematically crowned champions. “The advantage we have is deserved… we deserve to win LALIGA.”

He was also mindful to urge caution and emphasise how focused his side is on Wednesday’s Champions League second leg against Bayern Munich: “We have to put our joy on ice because we have a very important game ahead of us in the season. We’re all focused on Wednesday’s game. The less regular players have given 100% as they did against Real Sociedad. We have to be patient and wait because Wednesday is very close. We have to recover, rest, and play our best against Bayern.”

Nevertheless, a 36th LALIGA EA SPORTS title is another historic landmark in the history of the club. Buoyed by the stellar performances of the likes of Jude Bellingham, and Vini Jr and a packed midfield with the likes of Fede Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni, Toni Kroos and Eduardo Camavinga, the side who have hardly put a foot wrong all season are deserving champions.

Engaging in themes on Sports Tech & Culture; The first panel hosted Indian leaders with experience guiding properties such as the NBA, MLB, Dream Sports, and IOC

MUMBAI: Continuing to build the Indian sports landscape, LALIGA, the world’s largest football ecosystem, successfully concluded its first-ever ‘EXTRA TIME’ webinar series in India. Seeking to engage in conversations related to sports technology and culture, the first of the dual-part webinar series, explored the evolving landscape of sports technology, and its impact in transforming fan engagement in India. Directing the conversation, leaders with experience leading properties such as LALIGA, National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), Dream Sports, and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) graced the occasion as panel members.

Delving into topics on innovation, audiovisual content, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and gamification amongst others, the panelists spoke about how tech can help build individual sports awareness and amplify preexisting audience potentials through personalization of content.

Speaking at a LALIGA Extra Time Webinar, Roger Brosel, Head of Content & Programming, LALIGA said, “At LALIGA, we have always looked at technology as a means to an end. Our final objective is to have a product with which fans can engage. Technology by itself cannot be the future, it must add something to the story we are already telling at LALIGA. We look at technology to build engagement and immersive experiences alongside the match day experience for fans who do not have the opportunity to travel. Through creativity & tech innovation we are allowing the viewer at home to get closer to the action.”

Vikrant Mudaliar, Chief Marketing Officer, of Dream Sports, added “Gen-AI is an interesting avenue at the moment. From a Dream11 point of view, we are looking to innovate to seamlessly and frictionlessly provide fantasy sports fans content through reduced touchpoints. This added amount of convenience to stream, chat, gamify, and be provided with tips based on your interest is what we are aiming to explore.”

Rajah Chaudhry, Country Head, NBA India, added, “For the NBA, we look at the technology space under two pillars; personalization and awareness building. We use tech, and in particular AI to build experiences for our fans. Through tech, we can personalize content, allowing fans to engage with the game based on their preferences, while providing access to the NBA like never before through immersive technology – which also allows us to build our existing fanbase in the country.”

Ryo Takahashi, Senior Manager India, MLB, added “MLB utilizes tech to understand our audience at multiple levels. Through building fan profiles, we are better able to understand our end consumer in terms of platform usage, the behavior of the consumer, and the changing mindset of the fans. By adapting our offerings to gain an advantage in fan experience, tech allows us to build and scale our offering to new audiences and markets.”

Aneesh Surender Madani, Former – Head of Global Digital Partnerships and Innovation, at IOC & Former Twitter Head of Sports Partnerships, at Asia Pacific, added “There’s a window beyond ‘LIVE’ content which is an area of growth for sports organizations. Fans are keen to learn more about the human stories in addition to the game. This demand is where tech can have a significant role to play. The big opportunity is in enabling athletes to share compelling content across multiple platforms.”

Exploring the theme of building a sporting culture in India, the second part of the LALIGA Extra Time Webinar series will take place in mid-May alongside leaders from the sports industry in India and Spain.

Villarreal CF mounts a late surge in the race for the Conference League spot and Atleti advances to the fourth place

See how the battle to qualify for next season’s UEFA competitions is shaping up.

There are now just five matchdays remaining in LALIGA EA SPORTS this season and there is so much still to play for. Several clubs are currently taking part in the race to qualify for the 2024/25 UEFA competitions and the battle is ever so tight.

Here comes a summary of how each of the clubs in this contest are performing, from fourth-placed Atlético de Madrid down to ninth-placed Villarreal CF.

Atlético de Madrid (4th, 64 points)

Atlético de Madrid have mathematically confirmed their place in Europe for next season, but Diego Simeone hopes that the competition Los Colchoneros qualify for is the Champions League, as making it into UEFA’s elite competition is the primary objective at the Estadio Cívitas Metropolitano each season. A 3-1 victory over fifth-placed Athletic Club in Matchday 33 was important, but there are still five matchdays remaining.

Remaining fixtures: RCD Mallorca (A), RC Celta (H), Getafe CF (A), CA Osasuna (H), Real Sociedad (A)

Athletic Club (5th, 58 points)

Athletic Club have already guaranteed European football for next season, given that they are the champions of the Copa del Rey. They’ll play on the continent for the first time since 2018 and will play the Europa League at a minimum. However, Ernesto Valverde’s side still hopes to add Champions League qualification to what has been a very special season so far.

Remaining fixtures: Getafe CF (A), CA Osasuna (H), RC Celta (A), Sevilla FC (H), Rayo Vallecano (A)

Real Sociedad (6th, 51 points)

As things stand, Real Sociedad would qualify for the Europa League as the sixth-placed team in LALIGA EA SPORTS. After finishing fourth last term and then enjoying a memorable Champions League campaign, in which they won their group and reached the last 16, they’d love to play in UEFA’s top competition again but are currently 13 points off fourth. Their priority may well be holding on to sixth place. If they look over their shoulders, they’ll see that Real Betis sit just two points behind in the final Conference League spot.

Remaining fixtures: UD Las Palmas (H), FC Barcelona (A), Valencia CF (H), Real Betis (A), Atlético de Madrid (H)

Real Betis (7th, 49 points)

Under Manuel Pellegrini, Real Betis have qualified for Europe in each of the past three seasons. Never before had the club made it to UEFA competition for three seasons in a row and now they’re aiming to extend that record to four consecutive seasons. In Matchday 32, an Ayoze Pérez-inspired 2-1 victory away at Valencia CF allowed Los Verdiblancos to leapfrog Los Che and move into seventh place, which is the final European spot, granting access to the Conference League. A draw in ELGRAN DERBI kept Real Betis in seventh, however, Valencia CF are just two points behind and this race for seventh should be a fascinating one.

Remaining fixtures: CA Osasuna (A), UD Almería (H), UD Las Palmas (A), Real Sociedad (H), Real Madrid (A)

Valencia CF (8th, 47 points)

By losing 2-1 to Real Betis and then 4-2 to FC Barcelona, Valencia CF have slipped out of the European spots in recent weeks. Coming up, Rubén Baraja’s charges now have two home games in a row, so will look to get back on track in front of their fans.

Remaining fixtures: Deportivo Alavés (H), Rayo Vallecano (H), Real Sociedad (A), Girona FC (H), RC Celta (A)

Villarreal CF (9th, 45 points)

Just a few weeks ago, it seemed like Villarreal CF was too far behind to stand a chance of qualifying for Europe for a fifth consecutive season. However, they have been in really good form of late. With six wins from their past eight games, they have been the second-most in-form team in that time. Norwegian striker Alexander Sørloth is banging in the goals and the defence of El Submarino Amarillo has improved, so don’t rule out Villarreal CF when it comes to this enthralling European race.

Remaining fixtures: RC Celta (A), Sevilla FC (H), Girona FC (A), Real Madrid (H), CA Osasuna (A)

MUMBAI: LALIGA has increased its brand value by 15% compared to last year, according to the BrandZ Kantar ranking, an annual list of the 30 most valuable Spanish brands.

According to the consultancy firm’s data, LALIGA has now reached its highest brand value in four years, when it was first included in the ranking of Spain’s most valuable brands. Kantar estimates the company’s brand value to be $1.653 billion.

Angel Fernandez, Director of Global Brand and Strategy at LALIGA, stresses that: “The strategic revolution that our company and brand underwent last year has allowed us to consolidate our position at the front of consumer minds as a leading entertainment brand. We at LALIGA will continue to work in this direction, inspiring our fans and making them part of the wonderful football ecosystem we have today”.

Overall, the value of the 30 most valuable Spanish brands in the 2024 Kantar BrandZ ranking grew by 12% when compared to last year, and now exceeds 100 billion dollars, which is the highest annual growth rate recorded in the Spanish ranking over the last five years. The companies that top the ranking remain Zara (with a value of $24.966 billion), Movistar ($13.024 billion) and Iberdrola ($9.709 billion).

In compiling the ranking, Kantar takes into account both the financial performance of each brand and how consumers rate its equity.

What has been going on in LALIGA this past week? Here are 10 of the top stories, from Girona FC’s statement win to Jesús Areso’s wonder goal.

INDIA: There were amazing goals and dramatic finishes to several of the matches that took place in Spain this past week, producing fascinating storylines which are discussed below, along with the rest of the week’s news

Girona FC put on a show to stay top

Girona FC entered Matchday 21 aware that victory would allow them to maintain their position at the top of the LALIGA EA SPORTS standings. Not only did the Catalan club take the three points, but they did so in style by thrashing Sevilla FC 5-1. Artem Dovbyk, the December Player of the Month, kept up his good form by scoring a hat-trick in the game.

Real Madrid and Barça win with late drama

Just behind Girona FC is Real Madrid, who took three points of their own by coming back from a 2-0 deficit to overcome UD Almería 3-2 on Sunday, with Dani Carvajal netting a 99th-minute winner. FC Barcelona were also involved in a dramatic game on Sunday, as they won 4-2 away at Real Betis thanks to a 90th-minute João Félix strike and a 92nd-minute Ferran Torres goal, with the latter completing a hat-trick.

Jesús Areso scores the most impossible goal

It truly was a Sunday of goals in LALIGA EA SPORTS, with 22 of them scored across the day’s four matches. However, there was no goal like Jesús Areso’s winner for CA Osasuna, as they defeated Getafe CF 3-2. The right-back whipped in a fierce ball from near the corner flag and then watched as it went all the way in. Without a doubt, it was one of the most incredible goals of recent years.

Baraja’s Valencia CF is clicking

Valencia CF have now won four LALIGA EA SPORTS games in a row, most recently defeating in-form Athletic Club 1-0 at Mestalla courtesy of a Hugo Duro goal. Coach Rubén Baraja has this young squad clicking, and European qualification is a real possibility

Cádiz CF move on from Sergio González

There was a coaching change this week, as Cádiz CF decided to move on from Sergio González after the club’s winless run in LALIGA EA SPORTS was extended to 17 matches. It was a difficult decision for the club, as Sergio had led the club to safety in each of the past two seasons, but Los Amarillos has decided to search for a new leader.

Gonçalo Guedes is back in LALIGA EA SPORTS

Former Valencia CF player Gonçalo Guedes has returned to Spanish football, with the Portuguese winger having signed for Villarreal CF on loan from Wolves until the end of this campaign. He links up with his former coach Marcelino and hopes to make an impact at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Real Sociedad have a new striker

One of the other interesting transfers that was completed this week was that of Sheraldo Becker, who has signed for Real Sociedad from Union Berlin. The center-forward netted 11 Bundesliga goals last term and will hope to achieve similar numbers in the Basque Country.

Guardado bids an emotional farewell to Real Betis

Andrés Guardado has left Real Betis to return to his native Mexico, and he bid an emotional farewell to the fans of Los Verdiblancos before jetting off. He made 218 appearances for the club since joining in 2017, the most of any foreigner in club history.

Muñoz’s season is over

There was some unfortunate news at Real Sociedad this week, as left-back Aihen Muñoz suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his left knee, one which means his 2023/24 season is over.

The Copa del Rey quarter-finals are set

There was also Copa del Rey action in midweek. The competition is now at the quarter-final stage, where the match-ups are: RC Celta vs Real Sociedad, RCD Mallorca vs Girona FC, Athletic Club vs FC Barcelona, and Atlético de Madrid vs Sevilla FC.

INDIA: Last Sunday afternoon was a turning point in the race to be the top scorer in LALIGA EA SPORTS this season. In the first match of the day, Borja Mayoral scored a goal to close the gap in the CA Osasuna – Getafe CF game, which, although it didn’t ultimately help him to leave El Sadar with points, it made him draw with Jude Bellingham at the top of the table.

But the Madrid-born player’s shared lead was short-lived, for when Real Madrid lost 2-0 to UD Almería in the second match of the day, Jude Bellingham took responsibility from the penalty spot to start a comeback that would culminate in an assist for Carvajal in stoppage time.

And if that wasn’t enough, a special guest joined the party. In the final game of the day, a hat-trick from Girona FC’s Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk in less than 10 minutes saw him pull one back from Sevilla FC’s opening goal to equal England’s Jude Bellingham on 14 goals.

With Atlético de Madrid playing Granada CF on Monday, Álvaro Morata (now on 12 goals) and Antoine Griezmann (11) could add to their tally and further tighten the race for the competition’s top scorer award.

Five players separated by just three goals are giving their teams a lot of joy, and hope that this effort will be rewarded at the end of the season with an individual prize.

The CJEU‘s findings state that it “does not mean that a competition such as the Super League project must necessarily be approved.” Anything less than a fully open model, with direct access only from the domestic leagues, season by season, is a closed format, which runs counter to the European values of the sport. LALIGA asks the European Commission for legislative measures to protect the stability and future of European football.

MADRID: LALIGA stresses that the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) does not sanction the European Super League and that in 2022 UEFA already included a modification to its regulations for the authorization of new competitions, which is adapted to what the CJEU is now ruling.

Although the promoters of the Super League claim that this judgment is in their favor, the reality is that the CJEU has been clear in stating that it “does not mean that a competition such as the Super League project must necessarily be approved. The Court, having been asked generally about the FIFA and UEFA rules, does not rule on that specific project in its judgment.”

LALIGA, the only league involved in the proceedings, welcomes this statement, which is in line with the formal position expressed by an unprecedented 23 EU and EEA national governments, who joined the football and wider sporting community in defending the football pyramid against secessionist models such as the so-called European Super League.

The essence of this ruling is also in line with the conclusions of the Advocate General of the CJEU in December 2022, which stated that “although the European Super League Company has the freedom to create its independent football competition outside the ecosystem of UEFA or FIFA, it cannot, in addition to creating that competition, continue to participate in football competitions organized by FIFA and UEFA without the prior authorization of those federations.“

Javier Tebas, President of LALIGA, said: “The ruling confirms what we have always said: anyone can organize competitions outside the UEFA and FIFA ecosystem, this cannot be prohibited, and no one has questioned this. The judicial question is the condition for these competitions to be under the UEFA and FIFA ecosystem, i.e. that there must be transparent, clear, and objective rules for the approval of new competitions. In 2022, UEFA already established a procedure to authorize new competitions that can be used by the European Super League or any other competition.”

Regardless of this ruling, the entire football ecosystem, including players, coaches, leagues, federations, and clubs, have already spoken loud and clear to assert that they do not want a model that perpetuates the participation of a privileged few, restricting the pinnacle of European football to an elite rather than an open sport for all.

The creation of a league designed to enrich the wealthiest clubs and concentrate power in the hands of a small number of privileged teams would also result in the loss of tens of thousands of jobs and drastically reduce tax revenues for public coffers across the continent.

According to the expert report prepared by KPMG, in Spain alone a project like the European Super League would cause a 55% loss in overall revenues for LALIGA and would jeopardise an industry that generates over 194,000 jobs and €8.39 billion in taxes, representing 1.44% of Spain’s GDP.

The European Parliament itself approved a report advocating “for a European model of sport that recognizes the need for a strong commitment to integrating the principles of solidarity, sustainability, inclusion, open competition, sporting merit, and equity. Consequently, it strongly opposes segregated competitions that undermine these principles and jeopardize the stability of the sports ecosystem in general.”

Therefore, despite the clear positions expressed by fans, clubs, players, federations, the European Parliament, EU governments, and now the CJEU, to reinforce and ensure the defense of the European football ecosystem, its jobs, contribution to the economy, etc., we urge the European Commission to activate the necessary mechanisms to introduce legislative measures that protect European football from future similar attacks.

It is essential to continue closely collaborating with national federations, leagues, clubs, fans, players, coaches, EU institutions, governments, and other stakeholders to nurture the development of football, promote growth, and preserve the fundamental values that have made European football the resounding success story it is today.

MUMBAI: The 2023/24 LALIGA EA SPORTS season is set for a thrilling weekend of football, with Matchday 15 featuring several exciting fixtures. The highlight of the weekend is undoubtedly the top-of-the-table clash between FC Barcelona and Atletico de Madrid on Sunday night.

Both teams enter the match tied in third place on 31 points, although Atleti do have a game in hand. The stakes could hardly be higher, with the winner potentially taking a significant step towards the championship.

The match will also see Joao Felix and Antoine Griezmann lead their current attacking lines against the clubs they represented not so long ago. It could also be a big night for Diego Simeone, who has never won an away match against Barca during his 12 years coaching Atleti, but who will look to do so for the first time at the Estadi Olimpic.

But the FC Barcelona vs Atletico de Madrid clash is just one of several exciting fixtures on the Matchday 15 schedule. On Friday night, UD Las Palmas will take on Getafe CF in a fascinating contest between two teams with different but effective styles.

Saturday’s action begins with Girona FC looking to get back to winning ways against Valencia CF, while Athletic Club will aim to build on last matchday’s positive result when they take on Rayo Vallecano at home. Later on Saturday afternoon, new Granada CF coach Alexander Medina makes his debut in charge of the Andalusian outfit with an away game at Real Madrid.

Sunday’s action begins in the Balearic Islands, where RCD Mallorca face Deportivo Alaves. An Andalusian derby follows, as UD Almeria host Real Betis. Sevilla FC vs Villarreal CF follows, as Marcelino, the new coach of El Submarino Amarillo, returns to one of his former clubs.

The final game of Matchday 15 follows on Monday night, as RC Celta face off against Cadiz CF. With both these teams firmly in the relegation battle, this is an important six-pointer and one well worth tuning in to.

Overall, Matchday 15 of the 2023/24 LALIGA EA SPORTS season promises to be a thrilling weekend of football, with several exciting fixtures on the schedule. Don’t miss a minute of the action – watch LALIGA EA SPORTS live this weekend on your local broadcaster.
