MUMBAI: MilkLane, the dairy and cattle feed business of Innoterra, has announced a strategic collaboration with Milky Mist, one of India’s most innovative dairy brands, to ensure a steady supply of high-quality, 100% traceable milk for Milky Mist’s expanding product range. MilkLane will leverage its robust network of farmers and rigorous quality control to supply premium milk, while Milky Mist will apply its advanced processing technology and market reach to deliver superior dairy products. The collaboration tackles key industry challenges including raw milk quality, supply chain transparency, and operational efficiency, ultimately benefiting both farmers and consumers.

Under the INR 400+ crore agreement, MilkLane will supply 100 kilolitres of premium milk per day to Milky Mist for over three years. This partnership will directly benefit 10,000+ farmers, ensuring fair pricing and access to high-nutrition cattle feed solutions. MilkLane will employ rigorous quality control protocols including its 100% Bulk Milk Cooler (BMC) model operations, innovative stainless steel (SS) can distribution system, and strict antibiotics and adulterants testing at collection centers, to ensure only high-purity milk reaches Milky Mist’s processing facilities. Additionally, real-time supply chain tracking will ensure full traceability, transparency, and consistency in milk procurement.

Milky Mist, a pioneer in value-added dairy, processes 1.5 million liters of milk daily at its fully automated 75-acre Perundurai facility. Committed to sustainability, it integrates wind and solar energy into its operations. Partnering with MilkLane further strengthens its ability to source high-quality, traceable milk, reinforcing its leadership in India’s dairy sector.

Talking about the collaboration, Harish Sharma, Managing Director, of MilkLane, said, “Our partnership with Milky Mist reflects our shared vision for transparency, sustainability, and farmer support in the dairy industry. We aim to support Milky Mist with a 100% end-to-end traceable and high-quality supply of premium milk for its expanding value-added dairy portfolio. The dairy sector struggles with inconsistent fat and SNF levels, antibiotic contamination, and aflatoxin risks, which impact product quality and safety. MilkLane addresses these challenges with a tech-driven approach, leveraging our network of 10,000+ farmers, 150+ strategically placed BMCs, and four-tier quality assurance with 40+ tests at central labs. We are confident that this partnership will set a new industry benchmark, combining MilkLane’s expertise in sourcing with Milky Mist’s innovation in dairy processing.”

Elaborating on the focus on value-added products and how this partnership strengthens their operations, Dr. K Rathnam, CEO, of Milky Mist Dairy, said, “We are committed to delivering innovative, high-quality, value-added dairy products to the consumers. This partnership with MilkLane will ensure that we receive a stable supply of rigorously tested, premium milk, that meets the highest safety and quality standards for our consumers. Additionally, MilkLane’s farmer-centric approach, including fair pricing and scientifically formulated cattle feed, strengthens the dairy ecosystem—benefiting both producers and end consumers. As we expand our product range and market reach, this collaboration will play a key role in reinforcing our position in the industry.”

With India being the world’s largest producer and consumer of dairy, maintaining product quality and supply chain integrity is crucial. This partnership between Milky Mist and MilkLane raises the industry benchmarks for transparency, farmer welfare, and greater access to safe, high-quality dairy products for Indian households.

Pan India, 60% of parents prefer the same

PUNE: Godrej Jersey recently surveyed Indian parents to understand their rationale for giving milk to their children. While some highlighted the need to remain fit and weight management in addition to gaining some energy and as a meal replacement, 62%of Pune-based parents and 60% of parents across the country said that they give milk to their kids to maintain intake of calcium.

Titled ‘Bottoms Up…India Says Cheers to Milk!’ the comprehensive study covering consumer responses from Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, and Kolkata, provides valuable insights into evolving consumer preferences and industry trends. Beyond understanding the parents’ rationale for giving milk to their children, the survey also tried to understand which milk-based products they prefer for their kids.

Commenting on the findings, Bhupendra Suri, CEO, of Godrej Jersey said, “Multiple research studies globally and in India have proven the nutritional value of milk which is good for children. Consisting of high nutritional quality protein, calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin A, it is widely an imperative for growing children. Amidst this, it is encouraging to see from our consumer survey why parents prefer to give milk to their kids.”

Another interesting insight that came from the report was that 90% of Indian kids drink milk more than 4-5 times a week and more than 40% of parents were open to considering flavored milk as a school meal, or for consumption during the day, or more specifically during playtime!

The survey was designed and conducted by YouGov. Creamline Dairy Products Limited, a subsidiary of Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL), a diversified food and agri-business conglomerate of Godrej Group sells the products under the brand name Godrej Jersey.

A community initiative to make a difference in the lives of mothers and children

PUNE: Surya Mother and Child Super Speciality Hospital successfully hosted a breast milk donation awareness drive at their hospital premises in Pune under the theme of “Love in Every Drop Donated, Life in Every Drop Received”. Breast milk is the primary and ultimate source of nutrition for newborns and infants, it supports the healthy growth of babies and protects them against the risks of infections and diseases. In the absence of breast milk, donor milk is the second-best choice for any child, particularly for prematurely born babies or severely ill newborns. This drive was inaugurated by Dr.Manisha Khalane, a lactation consultant who addressed the cohort of donor mothers by emphasizing the significance of breast milk donation and lauding their contributions.

Breast milk contains all the nutrients that an infant needs in the first 6 months of life, including fat, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water. However, only 43% of Indian infants are exclusively breastfed for 6 months according to NFHS. Some mothers may not be able to produce milk during pregnancy due to hormonal issues or post-birth infections. Breast milk donation can ensure a continuous supply of nutrition to premature or ill newborns who are unable to breastfeed.

The milk donation awareness drive witnessed the generous participation of 675 eligible donor mothers. SMCH through this drive was able to collect 527 liters 984ml from mothers which will help the hospital feed and nourish 525

The donor mothers also shared their stories, with grace and warmth, exemplifying an unwavering commitment to nurturing life. Minakshi shared – “I am a lactating mother who was already producing more milk than my baby needed. I had an oversupply of milk and decided to donate it to help infants in need. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Not only did I help nourish and save lives, but I also helped other mothers see their babies grow healthily with the necessary nutrients.”

Commemorating the event, Dr.Amita Kaul expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the donating mothers. In her thank-you note, Dr.Kaul acknowledged the invaluable role these mothers play in the hospital’s mission to provide optimal neonatal care – “Today, I want to thank every donor mother for her generosity and commitment. Your contributions have provided essential nourishment and crucial antibodies to protect the little ones in our NICUs. Breast milk is a vital source of nutrition, The good bacteria and oligosaccharides present in human milk help to strengthen and protect the baby’s digestive tract by promoting healthy digestion. Breast milk is loaded with hormones that help in regulating the baby’s appetite and help them develop a healthy sleep cycle. Every mother who participated in the donation drive today is a savior and has given a profound meaning to today’s theme – Love in Every Drop Donated, Life in Every Drop Received”.
