PUNE: In a remarkable medical achievement, a team of doctors from Sahyadri Hospitals recently conducted a successful myomectomy on 35-year-old businesswoman Riya (name changed) in Pune. The surgery was led by the expert team of doctors of MomStory by Sahyadri Hospitals, including Dr. Mini Salunkhe, Director & Head of Dept. – Obstetrics, Dr. Gauri Jagdale, Gynaecologist and Obstetrician, and Dr. Sunil. The process included taking out a 5 kg fibroid from the broad ligament using a small cut, like the one made during a C-section. The surgery was performed recently during the first week of February, and the patient is now in perfect health.

Riya had been experiencing persistent pain for the past three months, prompting a thorough examination that revealed the presence of a large fibroid. After an MRI scan confirmed the diagnosis, Dr. Gauri Jagdale prescribed a myomectomy as the optimal treatment. The surgery, which stands out for its unique approach, involved a Pfannenstiel incision, typically used in caesarean sections. This method allowed the removal of the significant fibroid through a smaller incision.

“We are pleased to announce the successful completion of Riya’s myomectomy,” said Dr. Mini Salunkhe, Director & Head of Dept – Obstetrics, MomStory by Sahyadri Hospitals. “This case presented a unique challenge due to the size and location of the fibroid. The decision to use a Pfannenstiel incision provided a minimally invasive yet effective approach, allowing for a quicker recovery.“

“Our collaborative effort and the innovative surgical technique employed played a crucial role in achieving such positive outcomes,” added Dr Gauri Jagdale.

Dr. Sunil, who assisted in the procedure added, “Riya’s ability to move around within 12 hours after surgery shows that the myomectomy was successful.”

Riya’s situation is unique because the doctors were able to successfully remove a large fibroid from her broad ligament using a small incision, similar to what’s done in a caesarean section. This highlights the skill and innovation of the medical team. The medical team at Sahyadri Hospitals is proud to contribute to advancements in surgical techniques, ensuring the well-being and swift recovery of patients like Riya.

Understanding Myomectomy – A Myomectomy is a surgical procedure in which the myoma, or uterine fibroid tumor, is removed from the uterus while preserving the surrounding tissue. The surgery often lasts around 2-4 hours and is typically performed under general anesthesia.
