PUNE: In a significant step towards building a drug-free future through youth participation and institutional collaboration, Pune Police will organise the No Drugs Volunteer campaign at Dr. P. A. Inamdar University, Azam Campus, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 11:00 am.

The initiative, being held in association with Lashkar Police Station, Awami Mahaz and Padmapani Foundation, is designed to address the growing concern of drug abuse among young people through awareness, prevention and community engagement. More importantly, by hosting the programme at a university campus, the organisers are placing students at the heart of a wider social movement aimed at protecting Pune’s youth from the dangers of addiction.

The programme will be held under the chairmanship of Mrs. Abeda Inamdar, President, Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society, Pune. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar will directly interact with students during the session. Senior officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjankumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioners of Police Rajlakshmi Shivankar and Nikhil Pingale, along with Rahul Dumbale of Padmapani Foundation, will also be present.

The No Drugs Volunteer campaign is intended to build a strong network of young volunteers who can become awareness ambassadors in their communities and educational spaces. The initiative aims to sensitise youth in the 15 to 30 age group about the physical, psychological, and social consequences of drug abuse, while encouraging informed dialogue around prevention, rehabilitation, and the role of society in early intervention.

Mrs. Abeda Inamdar, President, Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society, Pune, said, “A university is not only a place of academic learning, but also a space where responsible citizenship is shaped. If we want to secure the future of our society, we must empower young minds with awareness, courage, and clarity. Through this initiative, we want students to understand that saying no to drugs is not just a personal choice, but a social responsibility.”

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “The fight against drugs cannot be won by enforcement alone. It requires trust, awareness and active participation from the community, especially the youth. Through the No Drugs Volunteer initiative, our vision is to create a people-supported movement in which students become partners in prevention and ambassadors of a healthier, safer and drug-free Pune.”

The initiative aims to enhance the capabilities of personnel from cyber cells, crime branch, detection units, and anti-narcotics cells in tackling digital crimes such as online fraud, phishing, financial cyber threats, and social media misuse.

This training is a vital step in preparing our force to investigate and respond to digital threats more effectively. The training programme is part of a larger effort led by UWM and supported by FedEx to promote cybersecurity awareness and build institutional capacities. So far, UWM has reached over 10,000 citizens across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. In Mumbai alone, 5,197 women, youth, and senior citizens have been sensitised to cyber hygiene and digital safety practices. The initiative has also trained over 500 officers from the Navi Mumbai Police in cybercrime investigation.

The programme is supported by FedEx as part of its ongoing commitment to empowering communities through enhanced digital safety and resilience against cybercrime. “FedEx is proud to work alongside government authorities and civil society organizations to help build a digitally secure India,” said Nitin Navneet Tatiwala, vice president of marketing, air network, and customer experience, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Africa, FedEx. “We are grateful to the Mumbai Police for their tireless efforts in protecting our communities and keeping citizens safe, and we appreciate United Way Mumbai for collaborating with us to conduct these sessions.”

The program was conducted to educate and empower 130 delivery partners in the city. The operation was initiated following a complaint lodged by Body Cupid Private Limited regarding suspected counterfeit products being sold under the brand name “WoW.” Acting upon this complaint, the case was referred to Sr. P.I. Dayanand Nayak, who oversaw the investigation led by Mr. Mahendra Patil (A.P.I.).

The raid, conducted at HK Wholesale and Retailers in Jogeshwari West, was executed meticulously with the assistance of Sujit Mhaisdhune (PSI) and a dedicated squad from unit 9. The team, comprised of P.C. Shri Koli, P.C. Shri Shelke, P.C. Shri Chaugule, P.C. Ms. Sawant, and P.C. Shri Zodage, ensured the operation’s success.

Following the raid, the accused suspected of involvement in the distribution of counterfeit products were apprehended. The accused were handed over to Mr. Sushantkumar Patil (P.S.I.) of Amboli Police Station for further investigation.

Currently, under the guidance of Jaywant Shinde (Sr. P.I.), the Amboli Police Station continues to delve into the matter, aiming to uncover the full extent of the counterfeit operation and bring those responsible to justice.

The successful raid serves as a testament to the commitment of law enforcement agencies in combating illicit activities and protecting consumers from fraudulent products. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to ensure the safety and integrity of consumer goods in the market.

In the final match, Chauddhary crushed his opponent J. Helinger from the USA by taking a mammoth lead of 10 points eventually winning the final match by a score of 11-01.

Hailing from Saigaon Bagli village in the Chalisgaon district of Jalgaon, Chauddhary is currently working as an Additional Superintendent of Police in the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Pune Division, in Maharashtra and is already a Three Time Maharashtra Kesari Champion & a National Gold Medalist with several other titles under his name.

Chauddhary was kept in a bio bubble by his coach Hindkesari Rohit Patel and was training as per the Canadian time zone for several months at the Mamasaheb Mohol Wrestling Complex in Katraj, Pune.

Vijay Chauddhary, already a senior & a respected wrestler in the state of Maharashtra has now turned out to be the new Wrestling Sensation of India by winning gold for the nation at the world championship.

Speaking about his victory, Chauddhary quoted, “A few months ago, I won the gold medal for the Maharashtra state police force. That day I decided that I have to win a gold medal for my country at the world police games. Today all my hard work has paid off as I have made my country proud.“

“This win was only possible because of the constant support by my Senior Police Officers from the Maharashtra State Police Department, my family, my well-wishers, and by god’s grace,” stated Chauddhary.

Chauddhary added that he dedicates this victory to every police official of India who serves the society by putting the nation first. He dedicates this gold medal to the entire Indian Police Force.
